Johann Sebastian Bach (31 March [O.S. 21 March] 1685 – 28 July 1750) was a German composer and musician of the Baroque period. He enriched established German styles through his skill in counterpoint, harmonic and motivic organisation, and the adaptation of rhythms, forms, and textures from abroad, particularly from Italy and France. Bach's compositions include the Brandenburg Concertos, the Goldberg Variations, the Mass in B minor, two Passions, and over three hundred cantatas of which around two hundred survive. His music is revered for its technical command, artistic beauty, and intellectual depth.
Bach's abilities as an organist were highly respected during his lifetime, although he was not widely recognised as a great composer until a revival of interest and performances of his music in the first half of the 19th century. He is now generally regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time.
Bach was born in Eisenach, in the duchy of Saxe-Eisenach, into a great musical family. His father, Johann Ambrosius Bach, was the director of the town musicians, and all of his uncles were professional musicians. His father probably taught him to play the violin and harpsichord, and his brother, Johann Christoph Bach, taught him the clavichord and exposed him to much contemporary music. Apparently at his own initiative, Bach attended St. Michael's School in Lüneburg for two years. After graduating, he held several musical posts across Germany: he served as Kapellmeister (director of music) to Leopold, Prince of Anhalt-Köthen, and as Thomaskantor in Leipzig, a position of music director at the main Lutheran churches and educator at the Thomasschule. He received the title of "Royal Court Composer" from Augustus III in 1736. Bach's health and vision declined in 1749, and he died on 28 July 1750.

NOTIFICATION OF REMOVAL THIS VIDEO SHALL BE REMOVED ON DECEMBER 10 2015 ======================= Thanks to all commenters for their appreciative remarks. To those wondering where parts 1 and 3 have gone, the following. Clips 1 and 3 had been blocked worldwide. Not by YouTube but by the current distributor and owner Studio Hamburg. The DVDs they sell of this tax payers' funded film are still available, but without subtitles, leaving a large part of the world with no access to a cinematographic masterpiece.. Clips 2 and 4 have been discredited by two record companies on account of the music used in the film, played by Karl Richter (clip 2) and David Oistrakh (clip 4). Studio Hamburg had these clips blocked in Germany only. I don't understand any of this. It's a film about Johann Sebastian ...
Hey guys! Today’s video is going to be the top 5 Bach pieces in TV & movies. This is entirely based on my own opinion. I haven’t done a “top 5” or “top 10” before on this channel, but it sounded like fun so I wanted to give it a try. We’ll count down from #5 to #1. All of the choices are not only awesome movies and shows, but they actually spotlight a Bach piece in some way. In 1722, Johann Sebastian Bach began one of his most ambitious works: a 24-part comprehensive guide to the keyboard, demonstrating the musical qualities of every major and minor key. The first part, C Major, saw Bach create two masterful compositions that explore musical structure in very different ways. My film draws inspiration from minimalist sculpture and graphical notation, an alternative to traditional sheet music notation that evolved in the 1950s and often involves abstract symbols and experimental visual codes. Johann Sebastian Joust is a no-graphics, digitally-enabled playground game designed for motion controllers. The goal is to be the last player remaining. When the music — J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concertos — plays in slow-motion, the controllers are very sensitive to movement. When the music speeds up, the threshold becomes less strict, giving the players a small window to dash at their opponents. If your controller is ever moved beyond the allowable threshold, you're out! Try to jostle your opponents' controllers while protecting your own. Johann Sebastian Joust is available on PlayStation 3 & 4 as part of the Sportsfriends compendium (sportsfriendsgame.com). The game is also coming to Home Computers in Summer 2014. For more information and high-res images, see our presskit: http://jsjo...

The first piece in Nicolas Delort’s "Classical Series" is his personal interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach's “Goldberg Variations”. Story has it that Bach composed the Variations at the behest of one Count Kaiserling, who suffered terrible insomnia. The Count's assistant, Mr. Goldberg, was to play the Variations to help him fall asleep. And so, night after night, the Count would request Goldberg to play the Variations which, over time, came to be known as the Goldberg Variations. He doesn’t so much perform it as emit, breathe it.” In August 2011, Schiff turned his focus to the 48 preludes and fugues of The Well-Tempered Clavier, making studio recordings of both books in the Auditorium Radiosvizzera Italiana, Lugano. Gardiner, author of the new book, Bach: Music in the Castle of Heaven, has a unique perspective on Bach (http://goo.gl/J7gH2K). He is both a historian and a world-renowned conductor who has throughout his career made hundreds of recordings on the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label. Bach, the orphan rebel, had a suspicion of authority that ran deep throughout his life, and made him an often domineering and unpleasant person to deal with. Gardiner doesn't see any contradiction here. "The very fact that this music is so profound and so uplifting and the man is clearly not a saint makes it all the more interesting," he says. Transcript -- I think there's been a slightly deplorable tendency amongst Bach's biographers to paint Bach the human being in a very complimentary light. To imply tha...

The Best of Johann Sebastian Bach (31 March [O.S. 21 March] 1685 -- 28 July 1750) Part II:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF-bE9Tfnyg&list;=UU5p_ZYS7lMPpiFijxgLtakA Bach was born in Eisenach, Saxe-Eisenach, into a great musical family; his father, Johann Ambrosius Bach, was the director of the town musicians, and all of his uncles were professional musicians. His father probably taught him to play violin and harpsichord, and his brother, Johann Christoph Bach, taught him the clavichord and exposed him to much contemporary music. Apparently at his own initiative, Bach attended St Michael's School in Lüneburg for two years. After graduating, he held several musical posts across Germany: he served as Kapellmeister (director of music) to Leopold, Prince of Anhalt-Köthen, Cantor of Thomasschul...

Johann Sebastian Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor BWV 565 played by organist Hans-André Stamm on the Trost-Organ of the Stadtkirche in Waltershausen, Germany. Toccata et fugue en ré mineur BWV 565 de Johann Sebastian Bach, interprété par Hans-André Stamm sur l'orgue Trost de la Stadtkirche, à Waltershausen, Allemagne.

Prelude In C Major by Johann Sebastian Bach. Performed by Brian Bradley. Directed by Brian Bradley and Nicholas Barr. www.unionsquarerecords.com This is our contribution to the human collective in recognition of the winter solstice, December 21, 2012. Whether or not our evolution is seen or unseen, we would like to honor the passing of one of the most written about dates in our history. The true significance of this day may be hidden, but in time all truth is revealed. For we small creatures on Earth, quietly go about our lives. From here, in the countryside in Minnesota, I cannot see that we are crossing the center of the galactic plane. From this small body, I sit in the glow of Christmas tree lights, wondering what is going on up there in the satellites. In a distant room I ca...

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) Violin Concertos
And now there is no choice
I must put a side
The fear that feels inside
There is no place to hide
So it comes to this
One great and golden chance
That's only I can take
When everything I fought for is at stake
To make the mark
That's only I can make
This is the moment
This is the day
When I send all my doubts and demons
On their way
Every endeavor
I have made ever
Is coming into play.
Is here and now today
This is the moment,
This is the time,
When the momentum and the moment
Are in rhyme
Give me this moment
This precious chance
I'll gather up my past
And make some sense at last
This is the moment
When all I've done
All of the dreaming,
Scheming and screaming
Become one
This is the day
See it sparkle and shine
When all I've lived for
Becomes mine
For all these years,
I've faced the world alone,
And now the time has come
To prove to them
I've made it on my own
This is the moment
My final test
Destiny beckoned,
I never reckoned
Second best
I won't look down
I must not fall
This is the moment,
The sweetest moment of them all
This is the moment
Damn all the odds
This day, or never,
I'll sit forever
With the gods
When I look back,
I will always recall,
This was the moment,
Moment for moment,
The greatest moment,
