This Lion tried to initiate mating with the Lioness but she would have none of it. In a short burst of fury, she swung around and lashed out at the Lion. One can clearly see the embarrassment on his face.....

This couple of mating Lions were seen next to the road near Crocodile Bridge Camp in Kruger National Park, South Africa.
It is not clear if this was in the beginning or end of the mating period but what is clear is that the Lioness either was not ready yet or was over her estrus period.
In an attempt to initiate mating(or out of frustrasion), the Lion bit her on the bum !
She immediately reacted by showing him who is boss !

Lioness Ambush Hyena and then Attacks ! - Close Up Action of a Lioness attacking an injured Hyena in Kruger National Park.Lion vs Hyena Action.
This Lioness scared the living daylights out of the injured Hyena.Few creatures would dare confront a proud Lioness.While the footage might be a little hard to stomach, it's a great example of the hate between Lions and Hyenas. Hyenas have a rep as being lowly scavengers, but the social animals are actually skilled hunters and often bring down their own prey. In the Kruger National Park, experts estimate that as much as 50 percent of their food comes from prey that they have caught themselves!
Though the Lions are considered as one of the most powerful animals, but still they are also forced to face competition from the hyenas and it is mainly for the food. The problem is that both the lions and hyenas hunt similar preys, cover almost the same ground as well as are the scavengers of the same animal remains, therefore, both possess competition for each other. Whoever wins the duel can feast on the huge meal.

Kruger National Park
Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It covers an area of 19,485 square kilometres (7,523 sq mi) in the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga in northeastern South Africa, and extends 360 kilometres (220 mi) from north to south and 65 kilometres (40 mi) from east to west. The administrative headquarters are in Skukuza. Areas of the park were first protected by the government of the South African Republic in 1898, and it became South Africa's first national park in 1926.
To the west and south of the Kruger National Park are the two South African provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. In the north is Zimbabwe, and to the east is Mozambique. It is now part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a peace park that links Kruger National Park with the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe, and with the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique.
The park is part of the Kruger to Canyons Biosphere an area designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an International Man and Biosphere Reserve (the "Biosphere").

National park
A national park is a park in use for conservation purposes. Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of 'wild nature' for posterity and as a symbol of national pride. An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined "National Park" as its Category II type of protected areas.
While this type of national park had been proposed previously, the United States established the first "public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a "national park" in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. The first area to use "national park" in its creation legislation was the US's Mackinac Island, in 1875. Australia's Royal National Park, established in 1879, was the world's third official national park. In 1895 ownership of Mackinac Island was transferred to the State of Michigan as a state park and national park status was consequently lost. As a result, Australia's Royal National Park is by some considerations the second oldest national park now in existence.

Animation Quickies - Lioness Blocking
Here's a video of me blocking out a simple lioness animation to camera (though I would relate this more closely to rotoscoping given how closely I'm trying to copy the ref). Also shown is animating the camera and setting up the scene with a simple environment and really bad lighting. I wish I could do more with the face, not many controls there. As far as I know, this rig doesn't have a blink control..so I couldn't add that from the ref. I don't think it's bad for two hours though, a little rough around the edges.. could really sculpt those poses better later on. A couple of Mating Lions up close in Kruger National Park,South Africa: http://www.krugerparkbookings.com
This couple of mating Lions were seen next to the road near Crocodile Bridge Camp in Kruger National Park, South Africa.
It is not clear if this was in the beginning or end of the mating period but what is clear is that the Lioness either was not ready yet or was over her estrus period.
In an attempt to initiate mating(or out of frustrasion), the Lion bit her on the bum !
She immediately reacted by showing him who is boss !

This Lioness scared the living daylights out of the injured Hyena.Few creatures would dare confront a proud Lioness.While the footage might be a little hard to stomach, it's a great example of the hate between Lions and Hyenas. Hyenas have a rep as being lowly scavengers, but the social animals are actually skilled hunters and often bring down their own prey. In the Kruger National Park, experts estimate that as much as 50 percent of their food comes from prey that they have caught themselves!
Though the Lions are considered as one of the most powerful animals, but still they are also forced to face competition from the hyenas and it is mainly for the food. The problem is that both the lions and hyenas hunt similar preys, cover almost the same ground as well as are the scavengers of the same animal remains, therefore, both possess competition for each other. Whoever wins the duel can feast on the huge meal.

Here's a video of me blocking out a simple lioness animation to camera (though I would relate this more closely to rotoscoping given how closely I'm trying to copy the ref). Also shown is animating the camera and setting up the scene with a simple environment and really bad lighting.
I wish I could do more with the face, not many controls there. As far as I know, this rig doesn't have a blink control..so I couldn't add that from the ref. I don't think it's bad for two hours though, a little rough around the edges.. could really sculpt those poses better later on.

Visitors were watching a rare sighting of interaction between an Elephant and 2 Rhinos when a Safari Guide first drove off road to pass a car and then carried on driving 'through' the sighting. In doing this, he first chased the Elephant off and the Rhino soon followed. This could have been avoided by showing some patience and appreciation for the animals.In the video one can also clearly see some Kruger Park law breakers in the background. If you gave me a list of only 10 more bucket-list travel experiences I could potentially have for the rest of my life, experiencing an African wildlife safari would be right near the top. After making the long bus journey from Johannesburg to Kruger National Park, I couldn't believe this - once in a lifetime - experience was finally about to happen. Waking up at the crack of dawn, we boarded our Land Rover and drove off in the dark to the gates of Kruger National Park. It wasn't long before we witnessed sunrise and our first animal encounter spotting prancing impalas. In 1898, a small area between Sabie and Crocodile River was designated as a National Wild Animal Reserve, thus making the Kruger National Park Africa’s oldest animal sanctuary. It is 450 kilometres long and about 55 kilometres wide and is one of the largest animal parks in the world, with 147 animal species, over 500 bird varieties, and 114 different reptiles.The Kruger Park is divided into three areas. Whilst bush land and mopane trees form the northern half, the wide grass plains of the central region are home to a large number of wild animals. In the lush vegetation of the southern half, that consists mainly of acacia trees and bush land, is the preferred habitat of rhinos, hippos and many other wild animals. The elephant, rhino, African buffalo, lion and leopard make up the so-called ‘Big Five’ of the Kruger National Park and in spite of its dry climate there is an immense variety of plant life with a rich assortment of trees, bushes, grasses, ferns, climbers and herbaceous plants. Located on the southern bank of the Sabie Rive, the Skukuza Camp is the park’s organisational centre and can accommodate over 1000 visitors. In 1902, this location was the base camp for the co-founder of the Kruger National Park, Colonel Stevenson-Hamilton. The camp is situated on the ‘Lion Safari Road’, one of the five most favoured routes for observing animals in the entire park, and a well maintained road network connects the park’s 24 camps with the most interesting sights. On the edge of the park’s winding sandy tracks there is often a chance encounter with a prowling hyena and the road itself is popular with rhinos and many other creatures that appear to be determined to be photographed by anxious tourists! The highlights of our first day of safari included spotting a pride of Lions including getting up close views of lioness affectionately licking her cubs and an Alpha male resting in the foreground. Lunchtime, was equally as eventful as I was bombed (shitted on) by two birds eager to grab scraps of our meal.
As the day progressed we spotted giraffes on a frequent basis. Two male giraffes fought swinging their heads violently at one another often landing direct blows to knees. Out of all the violent animal encounters I could have potentially witnessed, gazing at fighting giraffes was not something I would have ever anticipated.
The day ended with an epic sunset featuring a generous portion of crackers, cookies, cheese and wine. On the way back, when the sun had gone down, we used a flashlight to try and spot more animals. Our guide Lloyd, has an acutely trained eye and without his assistance we may have only spotted impalas ourselves ;)

Okay, so today is the big day. Yesterday afternoon we reached the outskirts of Kruger National Park and today we're actually going in to spot some of the wildlife. So we're going in for a sunrise drive. It is really earlier. It is about 5:15 am right now. We're going to head into the park and - yeah - it is safari time!
Okay, so we finally reached the park and I'm going to give you a little tour of our cool truck for the day. Come on over. Come on in.
Make that big climb up there. Yeah, I'm in.
One thing that totally surprised me was just how close we got to the lions. I think it was only about 10 meters away from the road.
So they were really docile and the lioness was just sleeping and cleaning its cubs and in the back there was the big alpha male just stretching and yawning. It was surreal.
So that's been an amazing safari so far. It is only 10 in the morning and we've already seen more wildlife than I ever imagined. We saw lions, elephants, wildebeest. Oh, gosh more than I can even remember. Yeah, it was amazing and we were able to get up close and have a good look at them. So it has been so much fun.
So tell us what happened to you at lunchtime today? So the most ridiculous thing happened to me during lunch. A bird shit right here. It ricochet of off my shoulder all the way down to here. And while I was still recovering from the shock from that another bird shitted on this side. So I got hit on both shoulders but apparently if a bird shits on you it is good luck. So I have a double dose of good luck. Maybe that means I'm going to see cheetahs this afternoon. Woo hoo!
Right now we're visiting a private game reserve to see even more cool wildlife. And what caught us for a total surprise is that we saw so many giraffes. Apparently this is the most giraffes have ever been spotted out here.
So we saw them walk right in front of our vehicle and we even saw a couple of them fighting. They were swinging their heads at each other. It was completely bonkers.
Yeah, so overall it has been an amazing day. We saw more animals than we ever expected. And what a beautiful way to wrap up the day. Now we're just going to watch the sunset, drink some wine and enjoy some cheese. And do it all over again tomorrow.

If you gave me a list of only 10 more bucket-list travel experiences I could potentially have for the rest of my life, experiencing an African wildlife safari would be right near the top. After making the long bus journey from Johannesburg to Kruger National Park, I couldn't believe this - once in a lifetime - experience was finally about to happen. Waking up at the crack of dawn, we boarded our Land Rover and drove off in the dark to the gates of Kruger National Park. It wasn't long before we witnessed sunrise and our first animal encounter spotting prancing impalas.
