The Royal Ballet is an internationally renowned classical ballet company, based at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, UK. The largest of the four major ballet companies in Great Britain, the Royal Ballet was founded in 1931 by Dame Ninette de Valois, it became the resident ballet company of the Royal Opera House in 1946 and was granted a royal charter in 1956, becoming recognised as Britain's flagship national ballet company.
The Royal Ballet was one of the foremost ballet companies of the 20th century, and continues to be one of the world's most famous ballet companies to this day, generally noted for its artistic and creative values. The company employs approximately 100 dancers and has purpose built facilities within the Royal Opera House. The official associate school of the company is the Royal Ballet School, and it also has a sister company, the Birmingham Royal Ballet, which operates independently. The Prima ballerina assoluta of the Royal Ballet is the late Dame Margot Fonteyn.
The Royal is a British medical drama series produced by ITV that ran from 2003 to 2011. The show comprised one-hour episodes which were normally first aired on ITV in the Sunday early evening slot.
The title of the series refers to the fictional "St Aidan's Royal Free Hospital", located in Elsinby, a fictional rural seaside town, portrayed as being close to Aidensfield, the fictional setting of the UK TV series Heartbeat. The series was shot in Whitby and Scarborough, in the North Riding of Yorkshire. The Royal is an NHS hospital serving the local town, countryside and visitors. The show was set in the 1960s. It began as a spin-off from another popular ITV show set in North Yorkshire, Heartbeat.
Stars of the show included Ian Carmichael, Wendy Craig, Robert Daws, and Amy Robbins. The last episode of the show aired at 7.00 pm on Sunday, 31 July 2011 on ITV.
The Royal was introduced in the 14th episode of the 12th series of Heartbeat entitled 'Out Of The Blue' and The Royal benefited from this connection to the extremely popular parent series; several Heartbeat characters appeared in the first couple of series of The Royal, most notably Bill Maynard as a bed-ridden Claude Greengrass, but as the series progressed it generally dropped its character crossovers with Heartbeat to become its own entity.
Mixed is the past tense of mix. It may also refer to:
George Balanchine (born Giorgi Melitonovitch Balanchivadze January 22 [O.S. January 9] 1904 – April 30, 1983) was an American ballet choreographer. Styled as the father of American ballet, he took the standards and technique from his education at the Imperial Ballet School and fused it with other schools of movement that he had adopted during his tenure as a guest choreographer on Broadway and in Hollywood, creating his signature "neoclassical style". He was a choreographer known for his musicality; he expressed music with dance and worked extensively with leading composers of his time like Igor Stravinsky.
He was invited to America in 1933, by a young arts patron named Lincoln Kirstein who shared Balanchine's attitude regarding the importance of high quality dance training in America and together they founded the School of American Ballet. Along with Kirstein he co-founded the New York City Ballet (NYCB) and remained its Artistic Director until his death.
Ballet /ˈbæleɪ/ (French: [balɛ]) is a type of performance dance that originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a widespread, highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It has been globally influential and has defined the foundational techniques used in many other dance genres. Becoming a ballet dancer requires years of training. Ballet has been taught in various schools around the world, which have historically incorporated their own cultures to evolve the art.
Ballet may also refer to a ballet dance work, which consists of the choreography and music for a ballet production. A well-known example of this is The Nutcracker, a two-act ballet that was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a music score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Ballets are choreographed and performed by trained artists. Many classical ballets are performed with classical music accompaniment and use elaborate costumes and staging, though there are exceptions to this. Most notably, American choreographer George Balanchine is known for his plotless neoclassical ballets which are often performed in simple leotards and tights without scenery.

Dancers of The Royal Ballet share why they love performing works by Founder Choreographer Frederick Ashton. Frederick Ashton was Founder Choreographer of The Royal Ballet. His works define the English style of ballet, and to celebrate this heritage The Royal Ballet has put together a mixed programme of three of Ashton’s most loved – and most characteristic – works. The Dream (1964) is an enchanting adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to music by Mendelssohn. Symphonic Variations (1946) is Ashton’s first masterpiece, and a breathtaking, abstract work on the beauty of pure movement. Marguerite and Armand (1963), inspired by the celebrated dance partnership between Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, is a tragic love story of great lyric beauty. Find out more at http://ww...

She danced with Ballet British Columbia and then with William Forsythe’s Ballett Frankfurt, before founding her own company Kidd Pivot in 2002. Pite’s work shows the influence of Forsythe’s groundbreaking style but heightened with a new lyricism and a recurrent interest in the role of narrative in dance. ‘Ultimately my interest in story has to do with connecting to people’, she told The Telegraph in 2014. ‘Everybody is looking for a story.’ Pite is p...

From the Leipzig Opera with Music by Igor Stravinsky In retrospect, the solo version of Stravinsky's Sacre du printemps (Sacre I) can be interpreted as a bleak, oppressive dance about his own life. The ballet is one the late works by Uwe Scholz, one of the most important choreograpers of the 20th century. Scholz tragically died in November 2004, aged only 45. During his short life, this former wunderkind created over 100 ballets, including major stage successes such as The Creation, The Great Mass and Bruckner 8. In his Sacre, Scholz brought Stravinsky's work to stage in two parts: Sacre I is a unique solo danced by Giovanni di Palma on the four-hand piano version, the powerful Sacre II is staged for nearly 60 dancers (soloist: Kiyoko Kimura) accompanied by the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig...
