Ibiza

Ibiza (Catalan: Eivissa [əjˈvisə])^[p] is an island in the Mediterranean Sea, 150 kilometres (93 miles) off the coast of the city of Valencia, in eastern Spain. It is the third largest of the Balearic Islands, an autonomous community of Spain. Its largest cities are Ibiza Town (Catalan: Vila d'Eivissa, or simply Vila), Santa Eulària des Riu, and Sant Antoni de Portmany. Its highest point, called Sa Talaiassa (or Sa Talaia), is 475 metres (1,558 feet) above sea level.

While it is one-sixth the size of nearby Majorca, Ibiza is over five times the size of Mykonos (Greece), or ten times the size of Manhattan Island. Ibiza has become famous for the association with nightlife and the electronic music that originated on the island. It is well known for its summer club scene which attracts very large numbers of tourists, though the island's government and the Spanish Tourist Office have controversially been working to promote more family-oriented tourism.

Ibiza is the home of the noted port in Ibiza Town, a popular stop for many tourists and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Mike Posner

Michael Robert Henrion "Mike" Posner (born February 12, 1988) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. Posner released his debut album, 31 Minutes to Takeoff, on August 10, 2010. The album includes the US Billboard Hot 100 top 10 single "Cooler than Me", his second single, "Please Don't Go", as well as his third single, "Bow Chicka Wow Wow". He is also known for writing "Sugar" by Maroon 5, "Boyfriend" by Justin Bieber, "Beneath Your Beautiful" by Labrinth, as well as songs for Talib Kweli, Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, Nelly, TI, Snoop Dogg, Nick Jonas, Avicii, Austin Mahone, and more.

Early life

Mike Posner was born in Detroit, Michigan. He was raised in Southfield, Michigan, the son of Roberta Henrion, a pharmacist, and Jon Posner, a criminal defense attorney. He has a sister who is six years older than him. His father is Jewish and his mother is Catholic. Posner attended and graduated from Groves High School, where he ran varsity track and cross-country, and went on to attend Duke University. There Posner became a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and graduated in 2010 with a degree in sociology, with an overall GPA of 3.59.

Strung Out

Strung Out is an American punk rock band from Simi Valley, California, formed in 1989. They are known mainly for their musical style, which fuses aspects of melodic punk rock, progressive rock and heavy metal to form their primary sound. They have released eight albums on Fat Wreck Chords and appeared on numerous compilations and skate/surf videos. They have played on the Warped Tour and continue to tour internationally.

History

The band formed in 1989 in Simi Valley, California. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Jason Cruz, guitarists Jake Kiley and Rob Ramos, bassist Jim Cherry and drummer Adam Austin. After releasing a self-titled 7" record, they became one of the first bands to be signed to Fat Wreck Chords, the record label owned and operated by Fat Mike of the band NOFX. Austin left the band in 1992 and was replaced by Brad Morrison who also left the band and was replaced on drums by Jordan Burns, formerly of fellow Simi Valley natives Ten Foot Pole. Their first album, Another Day in Paradise, was released in May 1994. Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues followed in 1996. In 1998 they released The Skinny Years...Before We Got Fat, a compilation album of their pre-Fat Wreck Chords material.

Deep house

Deep house is a subgenre of house music that originated in the 1980s, initially fusing elements of Chicago house with 1980s jazz-funk and touches of soul music. Deep house tracks generally have a tempo of between 120 and 125 beats per minute. This style of house music can often have an acoustic feeling. The online music store Beatport is credited with driving the popularity of deep house, but also mislabeling a number of artists in the process and giving rise to the future house genre.

Characteristics

Deep house is known for complex melody, use of unrelated chromatic chords underlying most sequences, and a soul, ambient, or lounge vibe to the vocals (if any). In the early compositions (1988–89), influences of jazz music were most frequently brought out by using more complex chords than simple triads (7ths, 9ths, 13ths, suspensions, alterations) which are held for many bars and give compositions a slightly dissonant feel. The use of vocals became more common in deep house than in many other forms of house music. Sonic qualities include soulful vocals (if vocals are included), slow and concentrated dissonant melodies, and a smooth, stylish, and chic demeanor. The use of women's vocals is more common than male's in deep house tracks. Deep house music rarely reaches a climax, but lingers on as a comfortable, relaxing sound.

So Strung Out

"So Strung Out" is a song by hip-hop group C-Block. Released as a single on October 4, 1996 in Germany, it was included in C-Block's debut album General Population in the following year.

In 1997 the song had entered the top ten in charts of several countries and remained popular after C-Block's breakup.

Themes and composition

"So Strung Out" was recorded at Toneway & Paradise Studio. The music was composed by Franky Miller, Jörg Wagner and Ulrich Buchmann and the lyrics were written by Red Dogg, Mr. P and Wagner. The refrain is sung by Spanish–German vocalist Raquel Gomez with the rap part by Red Dogg and Mr. P. The lyrics revolve around drug abuse and depressive state of one person, who consumes cocaine. The black-and-white music video conveys an anti-drug message with the words "stop the madness" and "say no to drugs" shown in the end. Throughout the music video some features of Toronto are shown, including the Metro Theatre.

According to The Echo Nest, "So Strung Out" is composed in the minor scale, in the key of A♭ and is set in the common time. The extended version of the song has a tempo of 100 beats per minute. That version begins with introductory a cappella recitative about abusive drug experience.
