Letter of solidarity from anarchist prisoners in Korydallos Prison to Palestinian hungerstrikers (Greece, Israel, Palestine)

The struggles of the Palestinian political prisoners are directly and inextricably
connected with the overall struggle of the Palestinian people. 70 percent of the
Palestinian families have at least one member that has been imprisoned for
action against the state of Israel. 20 percent of the total population has been
imprisoned at least once in their life while according to other estimations 40
percent of the male population has been imprisoned at some point in their life
within the past 30 years.

Another revealing manifestation of the situation the Palestinian strugglers find
themselves in while inside the Israeli prisons is the fact that until 1999 “mild
torture” during interrogation was considered legitimate practice by law. These
tortures included- among others – deprivation of sleep, immobilization in an
uncomfortable body posture, loud music, exposure to extremely cold or hot
temperatures, placement of malodorous cloths over the face etc. In 1999 the
supreme court of Israel upheld that in certain cases these practices were illegal
and thus imposed some restrictions. These restrictions did not, however, rule
out force-feeding as illegal in accordance with the UN provisions.

On the 1st of May 2000 almost 1000 out of the 1650 Palestinian political
prisoners participated in a large-scale hunger strike that lasted one month,
demanding better living conditions, better treatment by the guards, family visits,
abolition of the solitary confinement, access to healthcare and release of political
prisoners. During the solidarity demonstrations seven Palestinians lost their
lives while one thousand got injured. Meanwhile, sixty Israelis got injured, too.
On the 31st of the same month the government of Israel satisfied some of the

Tasos Theofilou: Open letter on the commencement of his trial at the court of appeal (Greece)

On November 21st, after a nine-month postponement, my trial commences at the court of appeal. It’s been two years since the completion of my trial at the court of first instance, when I was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for the charges of common complicity to homicide and robbery in connection with the events on Paros island on 10/8/2012. I was acquitted of participation in CCF as well as of direct perpetration of homicide by a majority opinion. It was a political (not judicial) compromise and a result of conflict between the manipulation of this particular case by the police in cooperation with the mainstream media during the first days after my arrest, on the one hand, and the lack of any evidence, along with the solidarity expressed by the audience and the reaction of independent media, on the other. Thereof emerged the temporary Solomonic solution of my partial acquittal of the charges, deferring the prospect of a conclusive decision until a trial at the court of appeal.

Apart from the appeal initiated by myself, in which I upheld a full acquittal of all charges, there was also one more appeal, as of right, initiated by a gentleman called Δράκος [Dragon] –namely, a public prosecutor whose surname obviously adds further symbolism to the witch-hunt orchestrated by the Counter-terrorism Service. Eventually, the division of opinion between the presiding judge, Mr. Hatziathanasiou, – who voted for my conviction for all charges- and the two other members of the court – who chose the more moderate option that eventually prevailed- made room for further manipulation. Solidarity letter from imprisoned comrades in Greece to Osman Evcan (Turkey)

Osman Evcan, who is imprisoned in the prisons of the Turkish state from 1992 and identifies himself as a vegan anarchist since 2003, is fighting a tough struggle for the rudimentary conditions of living, like the achievement of mail, telephone communication, information etc, with the main point being the vegan alimentation right. Since the 22th of February, he is carrying his 4th hunger strike for the same reasons, in a very short period of time from the last one, as they transferred him recently in L type prisons, losing everything he had achieved till now with his former exhausting hunger strikes.

We barely know him personally, but we cannot help but feel moved by the fact that in a country-war zone, an imprisoned comrade is choosing and insisting to raise the matter of total liberation of life from the shackles of civilization and authority. An imprisoned comrade who refuses to feed himself with corpses of animals, which have been tortured by the meat industry and all the derivatives of pain, who refuses to become a cogwheel in this bloodthirsty capitalist machine which is destroying and plunders the earth.
We ourselves have experienced the disdain and irony in our non anthropocentric struggle attitude; even inside the antiauthoritarian milieu in Greece, usually in the name of “something more important”, as if there can be an impartial prioritization of the struggle. That’s why this has an additional importance for us to point out the hunger strike of this comrade in Greece as well, aside from the obvious support and solidarity that Osman needs at this tough moment.

Text of five imprisoned anarchists for Black December (Greece)

Delegation, frustration and the internalisation of inaction are characteristics that gain more and more ground in the world of struggle in its totality. And this is something that cannot be hidden within our milieu either. Although the occasions that arise are many, we feel social peace dominating and increasingly fending off CONFLICT that could shake off apathy. Our perceptions and proposals are dead if not expressed in the STREET, there where conventions are abolished and prospects open up.

Anarchy has always had the street as a privileged field of action, and this is what has made anarchy alive as well as attractive. Demonstrations, clashes with the cops, barricades, attacks on banks and department stores are not just spectacular reflections of our passion for attacking the symbols of domination, but also the best opportunity for us to meet each other and test our proposals in practice. We believe that theory is born through practice, because that’s what shapes people, transforming both the material and conscientive terms of our existence.

When our theorising produces a fragmentation of our forces – and thus also inaction – it means that such theoretical approaches are applicable only on foolish games of rhetorical superiority and constitute a provoking invasion of spectacle culture in our relations, distorting their anti-hierarchical nature.

The wager is not about who owns the perfect theory, because reality cannot fit our mental representations, but can only be approached.

The wager is, through the different idioms of meanings that we speak, to understand each other, exchange rationales and technical know-hows, coordinate with each other and organise our attacks.

We see the call for a coordination of revolutionary forces, the call for a ‘Black December’, as a wager as well. A call that does not have (and should not have) a person-centred tone, seeking to be embraced by the whole of the radical milieu. It does not concern the personal demands of anyone; only the common will for insurrection. And our ability to distinguish this is also a precondition so that political rifts can be bridged in the field of material conflict against the State.

We want this December to cause us rebels to meet, organise ourselves and ATTACK. We are not asking for a resurrection of past rebellions; we seek the opportunity to keep the field of CONFLICT open, there where people in the streets are growing in number, where the passion for liberatory violence meets spontaneity or, better still, an organised plan.

To create moments in space-time that will break the numbness and inaction that disarm us, and will make us realise our possibilities when we take action.

Words from 8 hunger strikers of the Network of Imprisoned Fighters (Greece)

Below is an excerpt from an open letter released in the small hours of April 11th 2015 by hunger strikers of the Network of Imprisoned Fighters.

[…] When we started the hunger strike, we knew it would be an uphill struggle that would stretch us to our limits. And it’s true that some of us, after 40 days of tough struggle, run the risk of developing serious health problems. Nevertheless, we’re not going to concede any ground to anyone who’s taking advantage of the government’s strategy in their attempt to wear us down and annul the effectiveness of our struggle. Therefore, we reiterate that we continue the hunger strike until the fulfillment of our demands, despite the visible risks to our health. We owe it to all the comrades who’ve felt we are giving a joint struggle against the state of exception, but above all we owe it to our own selves and to the means of fight that we have chosen. We invite all comrades to reflect on the cruciality of the situation (four comrades have been on strike for more than 40 days) and turn Every Day of Hunger Strike into A Day of Action.

Every fight exhausts its potential only when we give up, and this fight has neither exhausted its potential nor completed its cycle.*

PS.1: Yesterday [April 10th], our comrade Tasos Theofilou stopped the strike as well. We walked together this far, and remain united in our common struggle. Tasos, we wish you a good recovery.

PS.2: We send our solidarity to the revolutionaries from Turkey [incarcerated in Greek prisons], who stand beside us in this battle. We wish Giorgos Inglessis [who suspended hunger strike] a good recovery.**

Communique of Network of Fighting Prisoners about the continuation of the hunger strike (Greece)

After the deposition of the legislation of the Ministry of Justice, there appears to be a first victory of the political prisoners’ hunger strike.

The abolition of the legal framework that defines the operation of the C’type prisons and the beneficial provisions for patients and disabled prisoners, that lead to the release of multi-injured guerilla of the revolutionary organization 17 November, Savvas Xiros, would feel (or at least not so soon) without the struggle that is being carried out. But there is much more to happen.

We do not care for any governmental statement or any promise coming from state employees. Every authoritarian mechanism that deals with a hunger strike by its stated enemies will go into a deterioration war that will include promises, negated deadlines, vague statements and anything that could wear us down physically and/or psychologically. Especially Syriza, who all during its political life as a major or minor opposition demeaned and de-politicized the hunger strikes carried out by anarchist hostages, has great experience in the systemic managing of such situations. Combative prisoners on collective hunger strike as of March 2nd 2015 (Greece)

On March 2nd 2015, combative prisoners launched a hunger strike in various Greek prisons. Their main demands are: the abolition of Article 187 (criminal organisation) and Article 187A (terrorist organisation) of the Greek Penal Code; of the “hoodie law” (acts committed with concealed physical characteristics); of the legal framework for Type C prisons; of the prosecutorial provision of forcible taking of DNA samples – and the immediate release from prison of Savvas Xiros (convicted for his participation in the R.O. 17 November) on health grounds.

So far, those who have joined the political prisoners’ mobilisation and collective hunger strike are three urban guerrillas incarcerated in the E1 wing of Domokos type C prison: Dimitris Koufontinas, Kostas Gournas, and Revolutionary Struggle member Nikos Maziotis – and five participants in the Network of Imprisoned Fighters (DAK): Antonis Stamboulos (Larissa prison), Tasos Theofilou (Domokos prison), Fivos Harisis, Argyris Ntalios and Giorgos Karagiannidis (Koridallos prison). The rest of the comrades who participate in the Network of Imprisoned Fighters will join the hunger strike in the coming days.

Furthermore, in the E1 wing of Domokos type C prison, Giorgos Sofianidis has been on hunger strike since February 27th, requesting the abolition of type C maximum security prisons, in addition to his immediate transfer to Koridallos prison in order to continue his studies – and as of today, March 2nd, Mohamed-Said Elchibah also went on a hunger strike.

The declarations of war against authority won’t stop with one single action nor one single letter of publication. It is a totality of our lives, each one of us, who stands here as egoists under the name of International Conspiracy for Revenge (ICR) as part of the Informal Anarchist Federation/International Revolutionary Front. We won’t step back, even if we are isolated or deserted by the other “revolutionary anarchists” who devoted themselves to the dreams of society, those who let their own values as anarchists be imposed wholly by reformism, negotiation and conformity. We are out of their league and we won’t play their game. We have our own, one of violence and direct action. With nihilist comradeship through fire and fists to our comrades locked behind bars everywhere, in Europe, in South America and Mexico. Our comradeship also goes to those anonymous comrades who went underground to carry on a constant confrontation with Power.

Recent Situation Concerning the General Election in Indonesia

Since the first New Year fireworks started, all forms of oppression revelled in the curiosity and impatience before the general election (both the parliamentary election and the presidential election). We saw how the oppressors and the oppressed were walking hand-in-hand to celebrate what they call: The time of new hope for a better change. They printed the faces of those who are running for parliament and others are debating what should they do to contribute to make democracy better than they have it nowadays. Mass and social media all filled with empty words and the camouflage of how the general election will bring the oppressed to gain their freedom. And that is definitely right, because Indonesians will have the chance to choose who will be their oppressors for the next five years.

We are not even surprised when we found out that those who claimed themselves as anti-authoritarians were also merely trapped into the logic of giving your voice during an election or abstaining.

They producing memes, producing posters, shouting it out, organizing people, just not to vote. To say no to voting boxes, to say no to the parliaments candidates; they say no to the parties, they say no to every infrastructure of the voting system, but forget one important thing. To say no to the boundaries that kept them away from real freedom. They wish a different result by trying the similar way as used by Power. And how it can lead you to freedom? A question that doesn’t need an answer, since it is useless to question the choices of these people.

Anarchism is dead. And these people are the ones who proudly carry the coffin of their so-called ideology: Anarchism. An ideology of the weak and cowardly who called us “obsessed with violence” to cover up their fear. They are afraid to arm themselves and walk alone into battle, a long battle without end or goal.

And how different are we from these mobs?
We performed our disagreement with both those mobs by burning down two offices of the general election committee located in Donggala, Central Sulawesi on 16th April. We won’t stay away and let our enemy play around with their party of democracy. We directly sent our anger and transformed it into fire. We are not abstaining in this war. We attack.

We are not those anarchists who went to voting spots and painted slogans and chants on the ballot boxes. We won’t smear our values by letting our finger be painted with purple ink, a sign used by the authorities to identify who voted and those who did not. We won’t let one single inch in our body be polluted by our enemy. On the contrary, we attacked them without compromise.

On another chance, we sabotaged two cars (28th April) which were planned to transfer the ballots from South East Minahasa district to the capital city of province, Manado. We hit them not only to cause delay, but for our further action, which we cancelled because of an intervention by some “good citizens”. Next time, we will hit those who prevent us from our actions. With violence, of course.

Abstaining by not giving our voices is not enough for us. We want to bring this confrontation to be more wild than mere words or posters. We want to speak through fire, as we mentioned in one of our communiques before. But we don’t invite anyone to join us. We are not interested to have new members. We are not a party nor an anarchist collective. We are an armed group of the tendency of violence. To attack, and not to open a dialogue with our enemies.

Solidarity and Fire

During our campaign, we targeted some important spots which were never targeted before. We are expanding our targets by adding some more variety to them. On 19th April, for example, we burnt down the branch of the national electric office in Madiun, East Java. This action is part of our campaign to hit the vital spots of the enemy. By causing as much damage as we can. Causing terror as wide as we can. We set the fire early morning 3.00am, and let the flames do the rest. Awakening people in the morning with fire is our way to show our sarcasm to the workers who need to get up in the early morning for eight hours of slavery.

We chose this target as our way to send a message to Adriano Antonacci and Gianluca Iacovacci. Both are Italian comrades arrested and accused for several actions claimed by Anti-Civilization Subversive Individualities FAI/IRF. And our fire is specifically dedicated to two of them, to share our thoughts and dreams, our values and solidarity and to let both of them know that they are in our hearts. We will never forget comrades who are captured by the enemy.
And revenge is the only way to reply to this repression.

We continued our campaign by putting a similar incendiary device in the national electric company located in Semarang, Central Java, in early morning 23rd April, which failed to ignite. In fact, we swarmed over the security guard that came by when we were sneaking into the office. He is lucky we decided to let him down and not put an end to his life.

It’s not a mercy from us, but merely a warning that we are not playground kids who are playing around with fire. If one steps before our path, we won’t regret to help you to meet your end. All snoopers or wannabe good-citizens are part of the enemy for us. And please take it serious and do not say that we never warned you beforehand.

In the early part of this month, we continued our campaign by attacking another three power plants in three different places. One in Ternate (5th May), North Maluku and another two in Ambon (8th May), Maluku. We would like the enemy to know that all the regions are not safe and we will attack more and more next time.

Athens: Text concerning the hunger-thirst strike of anarchist hostages of the 4th wing of Koridallos prisons (Greece)

The following text is a presentation of what followed the incident with and also some general thoughts surrounding the institution of incarceration and how we stand across it as anarchists. Our desire was for it to come out earlier, but our transfer to another wing, the beating of Giannis by the CCF and various other prison matters delayed it.

On 13/12/13, when the yard closed we returned to human-guard Giannis Milonas a small percentage of the violence he applies everyday while holding a key. This specific guy insisted on his quarrelsome behavior when some comrades called him out on the ironic comments he made the day before.

This incident was, for the service, the reason to break up our community which had become a constant thorn for them. In the recent times there have been numerous clashes since we were trying with various ways and for matters we considered nodal, (hunger strike of communists from Turkey, the placing of barbedwire above the yards) to sabotage, to the measure that is possible, the function of the prison. Greece: 1st session of the fourth trial for the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire case – Athens

One more trial for the actions of the CCF began at Koridallos prisons.

Besides the members of the Conspiracy accused in the same case are also Dimitris Politis, Giannis Mihailidis, Giorgos Karagiannidis, Alexandros Mitrousias, Kostas Sakkas and Stella Antoniou (who are also accused in the third trial which is taking place as well) and Kostandina Karakatsani and Panagiotis Masouras.
Theofilos Mavropoulos read a common statement of the now ten members of the CCF, after which all members of the organization left the room.

“As I have stated in a previous court and in older public texts, I have been next to the comrades of the CCF as a solidarian anarchist, without however being a member of the Conspiracy. From the first moment of my arrest after the shoot out with the cops in Pefki, the comrades of the Conspiracy stood next to me like brothers. Inside prison we shared common worries, tensions and forged our steel passion for liberation through our common escape attempt in December 2011. Today for me the CCF is an inseparable piece of my thought, my desires and my personal mutiny for anarchy.
This is why as of today, here in your court, I state that I join the CCF and share together with the imprisoned and non arrested members the endless course to the anarchist insurrection. Participating now in the Conspiracy, I will read a collective statement for this trial. All of us, the members of the CCF, want to clarify some things.
In this trial, besides us who have taken the responsibility for our participation and support of the Conspiracy, all other accused do not have, neither have any relation with the charges attributed to them.
They never were, neither could ever be members of the Conspiracy.
An ocean of disagreements, perceptions and choices divides us…
The CCF and FAI is an international network of anarchists of praxis
who stand against the enemy with the certainty of those who play it all or nothing and refuse the proof of innocence and legal mitigations.

The Conspiracy and the Informal Anarchist Federation through their hundreds of attacks express the black anarchy which sets fire to the silence of the many and cowardice of the reformists.
All the charges in your indictments are a piece of the anarchist history and the armed course of the Conspiracy through the social desert of mass subjugation.
It is our compass in the unmapped unknown of the anarchist insurrection.
It is the unique moment where theory meets practice.
It is there where the law dies and anarchy is born.
It is there where the sounds of the explosions and the gun shots break the calmness of the crowd.
These moments are our moments. These history is our history.
A history which cannot be put on trial, neither finishes inside the court room.
We are the gasoline, the gun powder, the detonator, the bullet, the gun.
The only thing you will get from us is war.
The Conspiracy is, was, itself.
This is our Anarchy”.

G.Mihailidis read a common statement of his and D.Politis and then left the procedure.
“Give us a copy”, asked the chairman, “this statement is not for you”, answered D.Politis, while the cops were cuffing them.

The statement:
“We state that: We refuse to participate in the procedure of the court, not only because it is a mean of the state to demean and bend the anarchist struggle, not only because its function aims at the respite of anarchist action,but mainly because we do not recognize any institutional representative of the bourgeois democracy to judge people.
As anarchist revolutionaries we stand hostile against the bourgeios justice which sends people to the rot of imprisonment in order to defend the criminal lawful order of capitalism. Also, we support the anarchist revolutionary war in every of its forms.
We are part of the violent and guerilla action and will defend it as an inseparable part of the struggle.”
The trial continued on April 15th.

On Wednesday, June 27, at dawn, we attacked the headquarters of Microsoft with a vehicle-bomb. We drove through the main entrance and detonated the bomb van in the building, with about 150 litres of gasoline as a gift. Throughout the course of the operation the team ensured that no one would be in any danger, and, contrary to the assertions of several newspapers, they did not use firearms to immobilize the security personnel. It was an act of war against the widespread insidious silence and captivity generated by this modern world.

Growing up and wasting time and every minute of our lives in the great prison, in the city where they suffocate million people with anxiety and stress. It’s crazy and nonsense that so many people are crammed like zombies, like canned sardines in the giant cities. Barcelona: Claim for various actions in solidarity with Greek comrades on hunger strike (Catalunya)

Metropolitan area of Barcelona.

Maresme Av:
– We claim the arson of two FedEx vans at 10:30 PM on February 4, 2011.
– We belatedly claim the arson of two luxury cars in the early hours of September 7-8th, 2011 at 10:50 PM.
– Also, on March 7, 2012, we claim the arson of a van of the Presegur security company.

Mare St, deu de Lorda:
– We claim the arson of an ATM on March 18, 2012 with a small molotov cocktail at 4:30 AM.

Poblenou – Work office attacked.

On March 21, 2012, in the Poblenou neighborhood, a work office was attacked, breaking the windows at 2:30 AM. Against wage torture, direct action.

Verneda – Two banks hit.

On March 22, 2012, a group of comrades at 11 PM broke the windows of two banks, one La Caixa branch and one of Sabadell Bank. Afterwards, a molotov cocktail was thrown at the ATM.

Camp de l’arpa – Church attacked.

On March 27, 2011, a church was attacked with paint bombs on the exterior, and its windows were broken with rocks at 12:40 AM.

Deeds during the general strike – March 29.

– After the riots, at around 11:40 on Balmas St, 4 trash bins were set on fire to then try to block the street.
– At 12:30 AM near Urquinaona Plaza, 3 trash bins were tipped over and set on fire to block off a nearby street.
– At 1:15 AM a La Caixa bank branch was attacked, setting fire to an ATM and breaking the windows, near Sant Jaume Plaza.
– At 2:50 AM on Joaquim Costa St, two trash bins were set on fire to block off the street.
– At 3:20 AM silicon was used to sabotage various places that remained open on the day of the strike.
– At 4 AM a Caixa Laietana bank branch was attacked near Catalunya Plaza, afterward the street was blocked with a burning trash bin.

La Sagrera – insurer attacked.

On April 2, 2012, at 3:20 AM, a group of hooded comrades busted out the windows of a bank branch, then threw a red flare inside. Then the street was blocked off.

Raval – Trash bins burned.

On April 3, 2012, at 4:50 AM, we claim the arson of 8 trash bins in the Raval neighborhood, on l’Aurora St. Seconds later, a large “WE ARE AN IMAGE OF THE FUTURE” was painted.

Hospitalet del Llobregat – CCTV attacked.

The night of April 4 from 12:30 to around 3:20 AM, in Hospitalet, specifically in the Torrassa neighorhood, various CCTV systems were attacked with poles, rope and cobblestones.

La Mina – Street blockage and attack on bank.

On April 6, at 7:20 PM, Tessàlia St was blocked off with burning trash bins and then two traffic signals were attacked to impede the normal functioning of traffic. Then, at around 12:20 AM at the same spot, a nearby bank branch was attacked and “We want Stella Free” was painted.

Nou Barris – Schools sabotaged.

The night of April 5 in the Nou Barris area, paintings were made on public institutions at around 11:50 PM; later, around 3:30 AM a private school was sabotaged with windows broken and paint bombs and also with various paintings on the outside walls.

The paintings read:
– For a self-managed, voluntary and anti-authoritarian school. Death to the bosses’ world.
– Against the domestication of the individual, resistance and direct action.
– Youth, if you do not fight, no one will fight for you.

Brief communique:

As anarchists of nihilist tendency, we vindicate revolutionary action as a tool for our political-emancipatory project, we propose subversive urban guerrilla war as a form of struggle in the streets spaces, likewise for gain territory in our lives, in the face of the control of the authoritarian State.

We are revolutionary anarchists who reject and disregard the ranks of classic anarchism, likewise we reject the ancient strategy (end in itself) of accumulation of forces. We break with the old schemas and -isms, and we function by means of our inquietude and our personal I (which we temper with collective labor in order to accomplish according to vital goals, this being a false problem and not a contradiction at all).

As youth uprooted with expectations of wanting to free ourselves, we not only see our enemy in capitalism and the State, we also see it in the humanizing values of society, in its defense of the indefensible, therefore, we also seek to dis-articulate it. We are the uncontrollables, those who give free reign to socio-political destruction, those who see in the precarious and wild youth, in the immigrant youth and and youth of lower social class, the destabilizing explosion adequate for dismantling the bosses’ world and to entomb the State, we see adequate capacity for creating a tension of civil-revolutionary war by means of the tactic of the anarchist urban guerrilla and the conflict between the oppressive State and the revolutionary youth. We are working for the articulation of a constant influence in our spaces of the streets, that can create the situation of socio-political war against civilization, of razing to the ground capital’s schemas without any consideration.

We want to forge a generation of wild youth, disposed to destroy the city and the capitalist economy. From the Barcelona suburbs, we make a call to the rest of the youth for you to assume the nihilist branch of anarchism, to investigate your perceptions and to unite, under a black anti-authoritarian fist, let’s subvert the old order. Let’s go beyond.

Although at the time the actions did not have a concrete spirit of solidarity from the start and only sought to spread revolutionary action and revolt, we want to change the initial plan and to dedicate all of these actions (except the solidarity of April 6 with Stella Antoniou) to Gerasimos Tsakalos, Panagiotis Argyrou, Christos Tsakalos, Giorgos Karagiannidis, Alexandros Mitroussias, and Kostas Sakkas who at this time have started a hunger strike. Attack against President Karolas Papoulias’ home in downtown Athens (Greece)

Late on Saturday evening, February 4th, a group of hooded comrades carried out a direct action outside the house of the President of Greece, in Asklipiou Street, throwing sticks and stones on his residence. They were chased in Zoodochou Street, Exarchia, by motorcycle police units who fired flash-bang grenades. All comrades fled running.

Responsibility claim:

On Saturday, February 4th, at 20.00 in the evening, 60 solidaritarians attacked the personal guard, the guard booth and official vehicles outside the residence of the president of democracy Karolos Papoulias. Papoulias’ personal guard fled, and flyers were thrown at the spot in solidarity with the anarchists Stella Antoniou, Kostas Sakkas, Giorgos Karagiannidis and Alexandros Mitroussias.

The solidaritarians withdrew in coordinated pace from the place, which is located at short distance from the police headquarters. A few minutes later, a DELTA police motorcycle unit appeared, that used flash-bang grenades in an effort to reach the solidaritarians, but with no success.

Yesterday’s action was held in solidarity with Stella Antoniou and the other comrades accused for the same case, as a first response to the denial of her application for release on bail.

These actions will continue until Stella Antoniou is released from prison.

First trial of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire ends with severe sentences (Greece)

The verdicts and sentences were announced today in the first Conspiracy of Cells of Fire trial (the so-called “Halandri case”), and the end results are not good. The three-member tribunal imposed even longer sentences than those requested by the prosecutor. The breakdown is as follows:

Haris Hatzimichelakis: Guilty of forming a terrorist organization, manufacturing explosives, possessing explosives, and causing explosions at the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace, the home of former Interior Vice-Minister Panayiotis Hinofotis, and the home of PASOK ministers Louka Katseli and Gerasimos Arsenis. Sentenced to 25 years in prison out of a total combined sentence of 77 years.

Panayiotis Argyrou: Guilty of forming a terrorist organization, manufacturing explosives, possessing explosives, and causing explosions at the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace, the home of former Interior Vice-Minister Panayiotis Hinofotis, and the home of PASOK ministers Louka Katseli and Gerasimos Arsenis. Sentenced to 25 years in prison out of a total combined sentence of 77 years.

Giorgos Karagiannidis: Guilty of manufacturing explosives, possessing explosives, and being an accomplice to the explosion at the home of PASOK ministers Louka Katseli and Gerasimos Arsenis. Sentenced to 20 years in prison out of a total combined sentence of 32 years.

Panayiotis Masouras: Guilty of manufacturing explosives, possessing explosives, and being an accomplice to the explosion at the home of PASOK ministers Louka Katseli and Gerasimos Arsenis. Sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in prison out of a total combined sentence of 19 years. Submitted an application for a suspended sentence.

Alexandros Mitrousias: Guilty of manufacturing explosives, possessing explosives, and being an accomplice to the explosion at the home of PASOK ministers Louka Katseli and Gerasimos Arsenis. Sentenced to 11 years in prison out of a total combined sentence of 19 years. Chose not to submit an application for a suspended sentence.

Konstantina Karakatsani: Guilty of manufacturing explosives, possessing explosives, and being an accomplice to the explosion at the home of PASOK ministers Louka Katseli and Gerasimos Arsenis. Sentenced to 11 years in prison out of a total combined sentence of 19 years. Submitted an application for a suspended sentence.

Manolis Yiospas: Guilty of three misdemeanors including robbery and fraud. Sentenced to 2 years and 9 months in prison. The prosecutor initially requested that Yiospas be acquitted, and after the prison sentence was announced the prosecutor then proposed a three-year suspended sentence, which the court accepted.

Nikos Vogiatzakis: Acquitted of all charges due to lack of evidence.

Errikos Rallis:Acquitted of all charges due to lack of evidence.

Friends and relatives of the accused, but also the defence, commented on the severity in the imposition of sentences considering that for the majority of those sentenced, the court judged that their participation in the organization was of only a few months.

The state, its court and its other dogs have shown once more what happens to decent people who live for freedom.
