Mise à Jour : Pour ceux qui n'avaient pas tout compris, je vous ai personnellement sous-titré la vidéo, histoire que tout le monde puisse profiter de l'énorme performance de Neil Patrick Harris.
Dimanche dernier ce déroulait la cérémonie des Tony Awards qui est l'équivalent des Oscars du cinéma mais pour le théâtre et les comédies musicales. Bon autant être franc tout de suite le théâtre n'est vraiment pas ma tasse de thé et je peux compter sur les doigts d'une mains le nombre de fois ou j'y suis aller. Mais si je vous parle de cette cérémonie c'est principalement parce qu'elle était présenter par un de mes acteurs favoris à savoir Neil Patrick Harris. Et le moins que l'on puisse dire c'est que Barney envoie du lourd dès le début en poussant la chansonnette avec le très marrant "Broadway it's not juste for gays anymore". Du coup je ne résiste pas à l'envie de vous partager cette performance qui restera sans aucun doute legen...wait for it...dary!

- The Slang: After having some trouble reading the teleprompter as he presented with Anna Kendrick, Cuba Gooding Jr. referred to his glasses as his "Pimp Shades."
- The PDA: Is there anything cuter than a boy making out ferociously with the dog from Annie?
- The Cameos: Mike Tyson killed it in the opening, then proceeded to take no less than 4 jabs to the juggular from host Neil Patrick Harris. Takin' the jokes like a pro!
- The Memories: Cyndi Lauper, who earlier took home a statue for Best Score for Kinky Boots, sang her classic "True Colors" while the "In Memorium" reel played behind her.
- The Speeches: After peppering her Best Leading Actress in a Play acceptance speech with several dramatic pauses, Cicely Tyson capped it off with the most sincere line of the night: "... The Mill+ team designed, directed and executed original concept for the MTV 2013 Video Music Awards' graphics and title package, presented live from Barclays Center, Brooklyn. Led by Christopher Palazzo, Mario Stipinovich, and Bryce Wymer, the New York-based team had the unique chance to control every aspect of the show's visual identity including logo development, live action content, design, and animation.
The concept was drawn off the KAWS moonman and its environmental reflections - illuminating a side of Brooklyn that's both beautiful and toxic simultaneously. Imagine if the Moonman stood up and took a stroll through Brooklyn. It would reflect a warped and stretched view of everything around it, giving us a beautiful, trippy, melted look at Brooklyn and its many unique people. Footage was captured in both a run-and-gun style to illustrate Brooklyn's people and happenings. More planned shoots were captured using a Red EPIC, including 180 degree skylines, time lapse streets and more.
Those moments were paired with a clean, modern, energetic typographic system and some field-captured sound design. The result was an unexpected homage to the early, experimental days of MTV which still felt fresh; rooted in the here and now.

Tony Award
The Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Theatre, more commonly known informally as the Tony Award, recognizes achievement in live Broadway theatre. The awards are presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League at an annual ceremony in New York City. The awards are given for Broadway productions and performances, and an award is given for regional theatre. Several discretionary non-competitive awards are also given, including a Special Tony Award, the Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre, and the Isabelle Stevenson Award. The awards are named after Antoinette Perry, co-founder of the American Theatre Wing.
The rules for the Tony Awards are set forth in the official document "Rules and Regulations of The American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards", which applies for that season only. The MaestroThe Maestro
A destitute man, living on city streets liberates a device and escapes to a symphony of light and sound. The idea came about by wanting to play with timelapse as a way of showing different realities. The Maestro obviously sees things differently than most people and by working the timelapse effect into the narrative, it allows us to see the world from his point of view. The Maestro was shot in Sydney, Australia with a crew of four people on the Canon 5D Mark II using only available light. The visual effects featured were all shot in-camera and later composited in post. Mise à Jour : Pour ceux qui n'avaient pas tout compris, je vous ai personnellement sous-titré la vidéo, histoire que tout le monde puisse profiter de l'énorme performance de Neil Patrick Harris.
Dimanche dernier ce déroulait la cérémonie des Tony Awards qui est l'équivalent des Oscars du cinéma mais pour le théâtre et les comédies musicales. Bon autant être franc tout de suite le théâtre n'est vraiment pas ma tasse de thé et je peux compter sur les doigts d'une mains le nombre de fois ou j'y suis aller. Mais si je vous parle de cette cérémonie c'est principalement parce qu'elle était présenter par un de mes acteurs favoris à savoir Neil Patrick Harris. Et le moins que l'on puisse dire c'est que Barney envoie du lourd dès le début en poussant la chansonnette avec le très marrant "Broadway it's not juste for gays anymore". Du coup je ne résiste pas à l'envie de vous partager cette performance qui restera sans aucun doute legen...wait for it...dary!

- The PDA: Is there anything cuter than a boy making out ferociously with the dog from Annie?

'Please wrap it up' it says... Well that's exactly what you did with me. You wrapped me up in your arms after 30 years, and now I can go home with a Tony. God Bless You All, and Thank you! Thank you! The Mill+ team designed, directed and executed original concept for the MTV 2013 Video Music Awards' graphics and title package, presented live from Barclays Center, Brooklyn. Led by Christopher Palazzo, Mario Stipinovich, and Bryce Wymer, the New York-based team had the unique chance to control every aspect of the show's visual identity including logo development, live action content, design, and animation.
The concept was drawn off the KAWS moonman and its environmental reflections - illuminating a side of Brooklyn that's both beautiful and toxic simultaneously. Imagine if the Moonman stood up and took a stroll through Brooklyn. It would reflect a warped and stretched view of everything around it, giving us a beautiful, trippy, melted look at Brooklyn and its many unique people. Footage was captured in both a run-and-gun style to illustrate Brooklyn's people and happenings. More planned shoots were captured using a Red EPIC, including 180 degree skylines, time lapse streets and more.
Those moments were paired with a clean, modern, energetic typographic system and some field-captured sound design. The result was an unexpected homage to the early, experimental days of MTV which still felt fresh; rooted in the here and now.

A destitute man, living on city streets liberates a device and escapes to a symphony of light and sound.
The idea came about by wanting to play with timelapse as a way of showing different realities. The Maestro obviously sees things differently than most people and by working the timelapse effect into the narrative, it allows us to see the world from his point of view.
The Maestro was shot in Sydney, Australia with a crew of four people on the Canon 5D Mark II using only available light. The visual effects featured were all shot in-camera and later composited in post.

- zeiss zf 50/2, zeiss 35/1.4 (the new one released in 2011), zeiss 100/2 makro, zeiss 21/2.8

STABILIZATION + LIGHTING
- cinevate atlas 10 mounted many times upside down via manfrotto tripods
-manfrotto 561b monpods.
-a brand new Kessler KC ULTRA crane with K-pod tripod system. this thing is smooth and SOLID. one of the best features of this badboy is that for weddings; i can set it up in 8 ft mode as it's relatively easy/quick to setup. for commercials where i have more time; the crew can go all out via the epic 12 ft setups.
-interviews were all shot via zeiss 50/100 zf dual coverage and all cooking sequences were also double covered as well. a handful of little 150w lowel pro-lights performed art direction duties adding scones to help texturize backgrounds, and relatively compact 200w lowel caselights provided the key and fills for the on screen talents.
- $5 whitecards were complete lifesavers when shooting outside (eliminating blowouts while providing natural bounce-fills when needed) during the wrong times of day.
COLOUR + SOUND
-Sennheiser wireless + TASCAM audio recorder (boom mic's on order for 2012).
-SOUNDSOAP completed audio cleanup. i have to point out that Soundsoap is FAST + EASY to learn and use. huge thanks to Ray Roman for showing me this software.
-due to availability of the on screen talent schedules; some exterior shots had to be shot during mid day in direct harsh sunlight. to preserve as much detail during these harsh+contrasty situations I would use technicolor cinestyle for these tricky situations. from there the quick and easy to use newblueFX (and some of my legacy magic bullet filters) performed all color correction duties in post.
OUTPUT
-prores 422 as a master file, but for web/iphone/appleTv i finally gave try to the 10mps iphone4/ipad format. i couldn't help by notice 720p 5mpbs was producing heavy compression artifacting from all exterior shots with an abundance of leaves/shadows/nature.
the 10mpbs iphone4/ipad format gave me a HUGE bounceback in quality.
best of all is that this larger format streams and plays flawlessly to the various appleTv's throughout my home without problem. :)

Responsible for the hourglass and sinking cube shots. All geometry was created on 3ds Max, imported to Houdini 13 with Alembic for simulation. Exported (again) with Alembic to 3ds Max for finalizing. The Maestro
A destitute man, living on city streets liberates a device and escapes to a symphony of light and sound. The idea came about by wanting to play with timelapse as a way of showing different realities. The Maestro obviously sees things differently than most people and by working the timelapse effect into the narrative, it allows us to see the world from his point of view. The Maestro was shot in Sydney, Australia with a crew of four people on the Canon 5D Mark II using only available light. The visual effects featured were all shot in-camera and later composited in post. Dimanche dernier ce déroulait la cérémonie des Tony Awards qui est l'équivalent des Oscars du cinéma mais pour le théâtre et les comédies musicales. Bon autant être franc tout de suite le théâtre n'est vraiment pas ma tasse de thé et je peux compter sur les doigts d'une mains le nombre de fois ou j'y suis aller. Mais si je vous parle de cette cérémonie c'est principalement parce qu'elle était présenter par un de mes acteurs favoris à savoir Neil Patrick Harris. Et le moins que l'on puisse dire c'est que Barney envoie du lourd dès le début en poussant la chansonnette avec le très marrant "Broadway it's not juste for gays anymore". Du coup je ne résiste pas à l'envie de vous partager cette performance qui restera sans aucun doute legen...wait for it...dary!

- The Slang: After having some trouble reading the teleprompter as he presented with Anna Kendrick, Cuba Gooding Jr. referred to his glasses as his "Pimp Shades."
- The PDA: Is there anything cuter than a boy making out ferociously with the dog from Annie?
- The Cameos: Mike Tyson killed it in the opening, then proceeded to take no less than 4 jabs to the juggular from host Neil Patrick Harris. Takin' the jokes like a pro!

The Mill+ team designed, directed and executed original concept for the MTV 2013 Video Music Awards' graphics and title package, presented live from Barclays Center, Brooklyn. Led by Christopher Palazzo, Mario Stipinovich, and Bryce Wymer, the New York-based team had the unique chance to control every aspect of the show's visual identity including logo development, live action content, design, and animation.
The concept was drawn off the KAWS moonman and its environmental reflections - illuminating a side of Brooklyn that's both beautiful and toxic simultaneously. Imagine if the Moonman stood up and took a stroll through Brooklyn. It would reflect a warped and stretched view of everything around it, giving us a beautiful, trippy, melted look at Brooklyn and its many unique people. Footage was captured in both a run-and-gun style to illustrate Brooklyn's people and happenings. More planned shoots were captured using a Red EPIC, including 180 degree skylines, time lapse streets and more.
Those moments were paired with a clean, modern, energetic typographic system and some field-captured sound design. The result was an unexpected homage to the early, experimental days of MTV which still felt fresh; rooted in the here and now.

A destitute man, living on city streets liberates a device and escapes to a symphony of light and sound.
The idea came about by wanting to play with timelapse as a way of showing different realities. The Maestro obviously sees things differently than most people and by working the timelapse effect into the narrative, it allows us to see the world from his point of view.
The Maestro was shot in Sydney, Australia with a crew of four people on the Canon 5D Mark II using only available light. The visual effects featured were all shot in-camera and later composited in post.

- zeiss zf 50/2, zeiss 35/1.4 (the new one released in 2011), zeiss 100/2 makro, zeiss 21/2.8
- canon 14/2.8, canon 50/1.2
STABILIZATION + LIGHTING
- cinevate atlas 10 mounted many times upside down via manfrotto tripods
-manfrotto 561b monpods.
-a brand new Kessler KC ULTRA crane with K-pod tripod system. this thing is smooth and SOLID. one of the best features of this badboy is that for weddings; i can set it up in 8 ft mode as it's relatively easy/quick to setup. for commercials where i have more time; the crew can go all out via the epic 12 ft setups.
-interviews were all shot via zeiss 50/100 zf dual coverage and all cooking sequences were also double covered as well. a handful of little 150w lowel pro-lights performed art direction duties adding scones to help texturize backgrounds, and relatively compact 200w lowel caselights provided the key and fills for the on screen talents.
- $5 whitecards were complete lifesavers when shooting outside (eliminating blowouts while providing natural bounce-fills when needed) during the wrong times of day.
COLOUR + SOUND
-Sennheiser wireless + TASCAM audio recorder (boom mic's on order for 2012).
-SOUNDSOAP completed audio cleanup. i have to point out that Soundsoap is FAST + EASY to learn and use. huge thanks to Ray Roman for showing me this software.
-due to availability of the on screen talent schedules; some exterior shots had to be shot during mid day in direct harsh sunlight. to preserve as much detail during these harsh+contrasty situations I would use technicolor cinestyle for these tricky situations. from there the quick and easy to use newblueFX (and some of my legacy magic bullet filters) performed all color correction duties in post.
OUTPUT
-prores 422 as a master file, but for web/iphone/appleTv i finally gave try to the 10mps iphone4/ipad format. i couldn't help by notice 720p 5mpbs was producing heavy compression artifacting from all exterior shots with an abundance of leaves/shadows/nature.
the 10mpbs iphone4/ipad format gave me a HUGE bounceback in quality.
best of all is that this larger format streams and plays flawlessly to the various appleTv's throughout my home without problem. :)

-prores 422 as a master file, but for web/iphone/appleTv i finally gave try to the 10mps iphone4/ipad format. i couldn't help by notice 720p 5mpbs was producing heavy compression artifacting from all exterior shots with an abundance of leaves/shadows/nature.
the 10mpbs iphone4/ipad format gave me a HUGE bounceback in quality.
best of all is that this larger format streams and plays flawlessly to the various appleTv's throughout my home without problem. :)
