The Pamir Mountains are a mountain range in Central Asia at the junction of the Himalayas with the Tian Shan, Karakoram, Kunlun, and Hindu Kush ranges. They are among the world’s highest mountains, and since Victorian times, they have been known as the "Roof of the World", presumably a translation from Persian.
In other languages they are called: Kyrgyz Памир тоолору Pamir Toolori; Persian: رشته کوه های پامیر Reshte Kūh-hāye Pāmīr; Tajik: Ришта Кӯҳҳои Помир Rishta Kuhhoyi Pomir; Pashto: د پامير غرونه Da Pamir Ghruna; Uyghur: پامىر ئېگىزلىكى Pamir Ezgizliki; Urdu: پامیر کوهستان Pamir Kuhestan; simplified Chinese: 葱岭; traditional Chinese: 蔥嶺; pinyin: Cōnglǐng; Wade–Giles: Ts'ung-ling or "Onion Range" (after the wild onions growing in the region). The name "Pamir" is used more commonly in Modern Chinese and loaned as simplified Chinese: 帕米尔; traditional Chinese: 帕米爾; pinyin: Pàmǐ'ěr.
The precise extent of the Pamir Mountains is debatable. They lie mostly in Gorno-Badakhshan province of Tajikistan. To the north they join the Tian Shan mountains along the Alay Valley of Kyrgyzstan. To the south they border the Hindu Kush mountains along Afghanistan's Wakhan Corridor. To the east they are generally considered to extend to the range that includes China's Kongur Tagh, a peak which is included in the "Eastern Pamirs" more often than in the Kunlun Mountains, as Kongur Tagh and the Kunlun range are separated by the large Yarkand River valley; no valley of such significance separates the Pamirs and Kongur Tagh, just political boundaries.

The Pamirs are a mountain range in Central Asia stretching from Afghanistan into Tajikistan. They are among the world's highest mountains, its translation in ancient Persian meaning 'Roof of the World'. This short clip gives an impression of this beautiful region. It was shot during a one week trip driving from Khorog through the Wakhan Valley, onto Murgab in Eastern Tajikistan. The background music is made by Kevin MacLeod, and is called 'The Long Road Ahead' Copyright of all footage: Hoffer Media
POMIR, feet of the sun, Man and mountain and river are one. Through pride in the land and pride in the earth The people now celebrate a rebirth. To give is to love, to love is to give; To sing is to breathe, to dance is to live. The feet caress the earth below, Drawing the strength, releasing the flow. The hands reach up to the sky above, Catching the beauty, expressing the love. Freshness and innocence, tenderness, grace - In this Garden of Eden my soul's found its place. Earth, fire, water and air: The fire's in my heart, the water's a tear

"Cycling in the Pamirs" On 9 September 2014, 8 cyclists from 4 different continents met near the Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan border, just before Kyzyl-Art Pass. The next day, upon reaching the 4,280m (14,042 ft) pass, they began to feel delirious. Suffering from severe altitude sickness, they burst into this tribute to the Pamirs. A group of young Tajik women from the Pamir Mountains are training to become their country’s first female trekking guides. Upto 60 percent of families in Tajikistan rely on money sent by relatives working as migrant laborers in Russia. But eco-tourism is another potential source of income for the mountainous country. After years of dreaming about the Pamir Mountains, we finally visited this amazing part of Tajikistan in the summer of 2015. Our driver Shamil took us with his sturdy Nissan Patrol to some of the less travelled areas of the Pamir Mountains, like the Bartang Valley. The Bartang Valley was high on our wishlist and deservedly so! This video is a short impression of our two week trip through the Pamir Mountains.

Trip to the autonomous region of Tajikistan, Gorno-Badakhshan. I traveled along the Tajik-Afghan border into the High Pamirs. We followed the Pamir Highway for long distances, making stops at historic sites and small villages. I volunteered to make the video for Pamir Adventure, a Tajik tour company run by Surat Toimastov. Surat was a biologist in the Soviet Union and did all of his field-work in the Pamirs. His knowledge of Gorno-Badakhshan is intimate and unparalleled. If you are interested in visiting Tajikistan, I can not recommend Pamir Adventure highly enough. http://www.pamir-adventure.com/

The glaciers of the Pamir mountains, which provide over 50% of Central Asia's water resources, are rapidly melting at a rate similar to Greenland's continental glacier. Three generations of of Pamiri women share the impacts of the melt and decreasing water levels.
He works hard to give her all he thinks she wants
Three car garage, her own credit cards
He pulls in late to wake her up with a kiss goodnight
If he could only read her mind
She'd say:
Buy me a rose
Call me from work
Open a door for me what would it hurt
Show me you love me by the look in your eyes
These are the litte things
I need the most of my life
Now the days have grown
to years of feeling all alone
She can't help but wonder what she's doing wrong
Lately she try anything to turn his head
Would it make a difference if she'd say:
Buy me a rose
Call me from work
Open the door for me what would it hurt
Show me you love me by the look in your eyes
These are the litte things
I need the most in my life
And the more that he lives
The less that he tries
To show her the love that he holds inside
And the more that she gives
The more that he sees
This is the story of you
and me
So I bought you a rose
On the way home from work
to open the door to a heart that i hurt
And I hoped you noticed this look in my eyes
cause im gonna make things right
For the rest of your life(rest of your life)
And I'm gonna hold you tonight
do all those little things
for the rest of your life.
