Gustavo Cerati

Gustavo Adrián Cerati Clark (11 August 1959 – 4 September 2014) was an Argentine singer-songwriter, composer and producer, considered one of the most important and influential figures of Ibero-American rock. Cerati along with his band Soda Stereo, were one of the most popular and influential Spanish-language rock and pop groups of the 1980s and ’90s.

Cerati was the recipient of many awards throughout his career including various Grammys, MTV awards, as well as the MTV (Latin America) Legend Award with Soda Stereo, the first of its kind.

Cerati died on 4 September 2014 at the age of 55, after suffering a stroke four years earlier in Caracas, Venezuela which resulted in a coma.

Early life and Soda Stereo

Cerati was born on 11 August 1959 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He grew up in a middle class household; his paternal family was of Lombard descent and his maternal family was of Irish origin. His father was an accountant and regularly traveled abroad. From his early memories he had an idyllic love of the sun and nature. Cerati’s first passion was art and in elementary school he drew Comics and created his own Comic book characters.

Luis Alberto Spinetta

Luis Alberto "El Flaco" Spinetta (23 January 1950 – 8 February 2012), commonly known as El Flaco (the skinny guy) was an Argentine singer, guitarist, composer and poet. One of the most influential rock musicians of South America, together with Charly García he is considered the father of Argentine rock. Born in Buenos Aires in the residential neighbourhood of Bajo Belgrano, he was the founder of iconic rock bands Almendra, Pescado Rabioso, Invisible, Spinetta Jade and Spinetta y los Socios del Desierto.

Contrasting with the backwards and authoritarian government of General Juan Carlos Onganía, Buenos Aires was undergoing a cultural blossoming based on new art expressions; the new generation, among sons of the middle class, were immersed in an effervescence that would not reappear in Argentina until 1983. Spinetta devoted himself fully to his own music. In his lyrics, there are influences of multiple writers, poets and artists like Arthur Rimbaud, Vincent van Gogh, Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, Friedrich Nietzsche, Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Carlos Castaneda and Antonin Artaud, who has his name in the album Artaud.

Pescado Rabioso

Pescado Rabioso (Rabid Fish) was a band or musical enterprise of Argentine musician Luis Alberto Spinetta from 1971 to 1973. In spite of its short life, it is still considered an important piece of Argentine rock history. It was the second major band for Spinetta, created after Almendra's break up in late 1960s and a seven-months trip through Brasil, United States and Europe.

Although labeled under Pescado Rabioso due to legal terms with his record company, Artaud (considered the greatest latin-american rock album) is actually a complete Spinetta's solo effort.
