Lorenz Milton Hart (May 2, 1895 – November 22, 1943) was the lyricist half of the Broadway songwriting team Rodgers and Hart. Some of his more famous lyrics include "Blue Moon," "Mountain Greenery," "The Lady Is a Tramp," "Manhattan," "Where or When," "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered," "Falling in Love with Love," "My Funny Valentine," "I Could Write a Book", "This Can't Be Love", "With a Song in My Heart", "It Never Entered My Mind", and "Isn't It Romantic?".
Hart was born in Harlem, the elder of two sons, to Jewish immigrant parents, Max M. and Frieda (Isenberg) Hart, of German background. His father, a business promoter, sent Hart and his brother to private schools. (His brother, Teddy Hart, also went into theatre and became a musical comedy star. Teddy Hart's wife, Dorothy Hart, wrote a biography of Lorenz Hart.)
Hart received his early education from Columbia Grammar School and then attended Columbia University School of Journalism for two years. A friend introduced him to Richard Rodgers, and the two joined forces to write songs for a series of amateur and student productions.
Richard Charles Rodgers (June 28, 1902 – December 30, 1979) was an American composer of music for more than 900 songs and for 43 Broadway musicals. He also composed music for films and television. He is best known for his songwriting partnerships with the lyricists Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II. His compositions have had a significant impact on popular music up to the present day, and have an enduring broad appeal.
Rodgers was the first person to win what are considered the top show business awards in television, recording, movies and Broadway—an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony—now known collectively as an EGOT. He has also won a Pulitzer Prize, making him one of two people (Marvin Hamlisch is the other) to receive each award.
Born into a prosperous German Jewish family in Arverne, Queens, New York City, Rodgers was the son of Mamie (Levy) and Dr. William Abrahams Rodgers, a prominent physician who had changed the family name from Abrahams. Richard began playing the piano at age six. He attended P.S. 10, Townsend Harris Hall and DeWitt Clinton High School. Rodgers spent his early teenage summers in Camp Wigwam (Waterford, Maine) where he composed some of his first songs.

Anthony Dominick "Tony" Benedetto (born August 3, 1926), better known by his stage name Tony Bennett, is an American singer of traditional pop standards, big band, show tunes, and jazz. He is also a painter, having created works under the name Anthony Benedetto that are on permanent public display in several institutions. He is the founder of the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria, Queens, New York.
Born and raised in Astoria to an Italian-American family, Bennett began singing at an early age. He fought in the final stages of World War II as a U.S. Army infantryman in the European Theater. Afterward, he developed his singing technique, signed with Columbia Records and had his first number-one popular song with "Because of You" in 1951. Several top hits such as "Rags to Riches" followed in the early 1950s. He then refined his approach to encompass jazz singing. He reached an artistic peak in the late 1950s with albums such as The Beat of My Heart and Basie Swings, Bennett Sings. In 1962, Bennett recorded his signature song, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco". His career and his personal life experienced an extended downturn during the height of the rock music era.

Plot: Encomium to Larry Hart (1895-1943), seen through the fictive eyes of his song-writing partner, Richard Rodgers (1902-1979): from their first meeting, through lean years and their breakthrough, to their successes on Broadway, London, and Hollywood. We see the fruits of Hart and Rodgers' collaboration - elaborately staged numbers from their plays, characters' visits to night clubs, and impromptu performances at parties. We also see Larry's scattered approach to life, his failed love with Peggy McNeil, his unhappiness, and Richard's successful wooing of Dorothy Feiner.

"Blue Moon" is a classic popular song written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in 1934, and has become a standard ballad. It may be the first instance of the familiar "50s progression" in a popular song. The song was a hit twice in 1949 with successful recordings in the US by Billy Eckstine and Mel Tormé. In 1961, "Blue Moon" became an international number one hit for the doo-wop group the Marcels, on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and in the UK Singles chart. Over the years, "Blue Moon" has been covered by various artists including versions by Billie Holiday, Elvis Presley, the Mavericks and Rod Stewart.

This video has Motown group The Supremes on the prime time ABC TV special "Rodgers & Hart Today" aired as a tribute to the songwriting duo Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in 1966. This performance inspired the creation and release of the album "The Supremes Sing Rodgers & Hart" that was released on May 22nd 1967. It was originally meant as a double album but was cut in half before release. All of the finished recordings slated for release on the double album were included on the 2002 Motown/Universal release "The Supremes Sing Rodgers & Hart: The Complete Recordings" that would also feature a live performance of the group singing "The Lady is a Tramp/Let's Get Away from It All" recorded at the Copacabana in May 1967. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Supremes_Sing_Rodgers_%26_Hart Th...

Plays the form twice after 4-bar-introduction. Played ballad-style, B flat. Written by Richard Rodgers / Lorenz Hart. (1935)
"Where or When" is a show tune from the 1937 Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart musical Babes In Arms. ♥ It seems we stood and talked like this before We looked at each other in the same way then But I can't remember where or when The clothes you're wearing are the clothes you wore The smile you are smiling you were smiling then But I can't remember where or when Some things that happened for the first time Seem to be happening again And so it seems that we have met before And laughed before, and loved before But who knows where or when? ♥
A very busy but very fun weekend so no time to learn a new ukulele song. So here I have another karaoke cover. I am using the ProSound Karaoke Band, Sing Baritone - Standards, Vol. 15 (Karaoke Performance Tracks) which I purchased off of iTunes. I hope you like my rendition of My Funny Valentine. Thank you so much for listening. Written by Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers.

VERSE
When I was young I was a fool myself.
I thought I ran the school myself.
I thought that I could rule myself.
You're just as bad as I -
When i was young I was no jewel myself.
Like everyone I was a tool myself.
And now I know I was just cruel to myself.
You're just as bad-- as foolish as I.
REFRAIN
You're in love,
you crazy little things.
Start to love,
You lazy little things.
Just put your arms
where you should put your arms.
Why should you two care,
ever, any where?* (Alternate version: *Love is ev'rywhere.)
You're in love,
you crazy little things.
You're in love,
you pigeons without wings.
What can I say?
You are fools today
As i was many years ago.
