Hendrick Motorsports (HMS), originally named All Star Racing, is a current American auto racing team created in 1984 by Rick Hendrick. The team currently competes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. One of stock car racing's premier organizations, Hendrick Motorsports has garnered eleven Sprint Cup Series owners and drivers championships, three Camping World Truck Series owners and drivers titles, and one Xfinity Series drivers crown, 240 Sprint Cup Series victories, 26 Xfinity Series wins, and 26 Camping World Truck Series victories. As of the 2015 season, the team has won a Sprint Cup race on every track on the current circuit – except for Kentucky Speedway, which has only been on the circuit since 2011.
The team currently fields four full-time Sprint Cup Series teams, including the No. 5 Farmers Insurance Group/Great Clips/LiftMaster/Quicken Loans/Chuck E. Cheese's/Panasonic Toughbook/Pepsi Chevrolet SS for Kasey Kahne, the No. 24 NAPA/3M/Kelley Blue Book/Time Warner Cable/Mountain Dew Chevrolet SS for Chase Elliott, the No. 48 Lowe's/Kobalt Tools Chevrolet SS for Jimmie Johnson, and the No. 88 Nationwide Insurance/AXALTA/Diet Mountain Dew/TaxSlayer.com Chevrolet SS for Dale Earnhardt, Jr. The team formerly fielded teams in the now-Xfinity Series before merging its efforts with JR Motorsports. The team also fielded several trucks in the Camping World Truck Series, most recently for development driver Chase Elliott in 2013. The team has fielded cars in the past for many NASCAR drivers, including Geoff Bodine, Tim Richmond, Darrell Waltrip, Benny Parsons, Ricky Rudd, Ken Schrader, Terry Labonte, Kyle Busch, Casey Mears, Mark Martin, Brian Vickers, and Jeff Gordon.
Jeffery Michael Gordon(born August 4, 1971) is a retired American professional stock car racing driver and currently an announcer for Fox NASCAR. He drove the No. 24 Chevrolet SS for Hendrick Motorsports in 23 full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series seasons.
Gordon started his professional racing career in the Busch Series with Hugh Connerty Racing, followed by Bill Davis Racing, winning three races, and began racing full-time in the Cup Series for Hendrick Motorsports in 1993. He is a four-time Sprint Cup champion, having won the title in 1995, 1997, 1998, and 2001. He also won the Daytona 500 three times in 1997, 1999, and 2005. He is third on the all-time Cup wins list with 93 career wins, the most in NASCAR's modern era (1972–present). Gordon's 81 pole positions led all active drivers and is third all-time; Gordon won at least one pole in 23 consecutive seasons, making this a NASCAR record. He is also the active iron man leader for consecutive races participated in with 797 through the 2015 season.
The Chevrolet Monte Carlo is a two-door coupe that was produced by Chevrolet through six generations from the 1970 to the 2007 model years. It was marketed as a personal luxury car, with the last generation classified as a full-sized coupé When production ended in 2007, the Monte Carlo had outlived many competitors that were either discontinued or changed in concept to either a four-door sedan or small sport coupe.
The car was named for the city Monte Carlo in the Principality of Monaco, specifically the ward of Monte Carlo/Spélugues.
The first four generations of the Monte Carlo (1970–72, 1973–77, 1978–80, and 1981–88) were of a rear-wheel-drive, V8-powered (a V6 engine from 1978) coupe design, utilizing body-on-frame construction. The later rear-wheel-drive generations did not incorporate the trend of unit-body construction that became more prevalent in the early 1980s as automakers downsized their vehicle lines to satisfy increasing demand for fuel-economy after the 1973 oil crisis and the early 1980s recession. The SS model was reintroduced from mid-1983 to 1988 with a 305 cu in (5.0 L) V8.
Monte Carlo /ˈmɒnti ˈkɑːrloʊ/ (Italian pronunciation: [ˈmonte ˈkarlo]; French: Monte-Carlo or colloquially Monte-Carl, Monégasque: Monte-Carlu) officially refers to an administrative area of the Principality of Monaco, specifically the ward of Monte Carlo/Spélugues, where the Monte Carlo Casino is located. Informally the name also refers to a larger district, the Monte Carlo Quarter (corresponding to the former municipality of Monte Carlo), which besides Monte Carlo/Spélugues also includes the wards of La Rousse/Saint Roman, Larvotto/Bas Moulins, and Saint Michel. The permanent population of the ward of Monte Carlo is about 3,500, while that of the quarter is about 15,000. Monaco has four traditional quarters. From west to east they are: Fontvieille (the newest), Monaco-Ville (the oldest), La Condamine, and Monte Carlo.
Monte Carlo (literally "Mount Charles") is situated on a prominent escarpment at the base of the Maritime Alps along the French Riviera. Near the western end of the quarter is the world-famous Place du Casino, the gambling center which has made Monte Carlo "an international byword for the extravagant display and reckless dispersal of wealth". It is also the location of the Hôtel de Paris, the Café de Paris, and the Salle Garnier (the casino theatre which is the home of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo).
