Pulkit Samrat

Pulkit Samrat is an Indian film actor and model. He made his debut in Bollywood with Bittoo Boss (2012).

Early life and background

Pulkit Samrat was born and brought up in a Punjabi joint family in Shalimar Bagh, Delhi, where his family has its real estate business. He studied at Manav Sthali School, New Rajendra Nagar till class X and completed his schooling from Montfort Senior Secondary School, Ashok Vihar, Delhi and joined an advertising course at Apeejay Institute of Design, Delhi. However, after studying for five months, he received a modelling assignment. Thereafter he quit his studies and shifted to Mumbai, where joined acting course run by Kishore Namit Kapoor.

Career

Pulkit shifted to Mumbai in 2005, and made his television debut in the role of Lakshya Virani in long-running television soap by Balaji Telefilms, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2006, which first got him recognition, though he quit the show in 2007. The actor was suffering from a bad back and had a to go through a lot of trouble while shooting for the daily soap. He went to Dubai to get treatment for his back. The character made him the winner of Best Fresh New Face Award at The Indian Telly Awards and Favourite Naya Sadasya (Favourite Newcomer) at Star Parivaar Awards(SPA). In 2011, he appeared as the lead in choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant's musical theatrical Taj Express.

Ali Fazal

Ali Fazal (pronounced [əliː fəˈzaːl]; born 15 October 1986) is an Indian actor. Born in Lucknow, he made his screen debut with a small role in the English language film The Other End of the Line (2008) before appearing in the American television miniseries Bollywood Hero (2009).

Fazal made his Bollywood debut with a special appearance in 3 Idiots (2009) and he next appeared in Always Kabhi Kabhi (2011). His first success came in Fukrey (2013) and was seen in a supporting roles in films; Baat Ban Gayi (2013), Bobby Jasoos (2014) and Sonali Cable (2014). His first film in a lead role was released in 2015—Khamoshiyan—followed by his first American film Furious 7.

Early life

Born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Fazal's family hails from Allahabad. He was brought up in a "middle-class family" from a village near the Ganges. His father worked in a firm in the Middle East. He grew up in his maternal grandparents' home—with his grandparents and his mother—since his parents were separated while he was a kid. The couple got divorced when Fazal was 18. He completed schooling from The Doon School in Dehra Dun. He used to play basketball during his school days, and hoped to represent India as a basketball player.

Manjot Singh

Manjot Singh (born 7 July 1992) is an Indian Bollywood actor, best known for his role in films like Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Student Of The Year and Fukrey. He won Filmfare Critics Award for the Best Actor category for his performance in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!.

Early life

Manjot Singh was born in Delhi into a Sikh family . His mother is a house wife while his father is a business man. He completed his schooling from the Hillwoods Academy situated in New Delhi.

Career

Manjot's father came to know that Chhavi Singh and Shubhra Komal were in Delhi scouting for actors and asked his son if he wanted to try it out. They went to Arvinder for an audition though Manjot had never acted before, even in school plays. After the audition the casting director of Dibakar Banerjee’s Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! rejected Manjot Singh for the role of the boy who grows up to be master thief Lucky. However Dibakar Banerjee knew he had found his Lucky. "Even though the casting director wasn’t convinced, I just put my foot down," the director said. After being selected, Manjot went to Manali for a week-long acting workshop. He was asked to observe the way Abhay Deol walked, smiled and talked so that he could imitate that in his acting. He even wore a cheek pad so that his jaw would look as broad as Abhay Deol’s. Manjot’s performance was well appreciated by the critics and he received the Filmfare Critics Award for the Best Actor category. Later Manjot participated in a reality show Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi Level 3 in 2010.

Fukrey

Fukrey (meaning 'slacker' or 'worthless' in Hindi/Punjabi) is a 2013 Hindi coming of age comedy film directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and starring Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Ali Fazal, Manjot Singh, Richa Chadda, Vishakha Singh, and Priya Anand in the lead roles. The story and dialogues are written by Vipul Vig and the screenplay was written by Vig and Lamba. Produced under the Excel Entertainment banner, the film was released on 14 June 2013. Despite a poor opening, the film has gone on to become a sleeper hit.

Plot

The film is set in Delhi, where four "Fukrey" (a colloquial Punjabi term for slackers) boys, come together to make easy money.

The group includes two school backbenchers, Hunny (Pulkit Samrat) and Choocha (Varun Sharma), who are perpetually dreaming of making it big. They want to get into the local college but don't have the grades. The college guard Pandit (Pankaj Tripathi) tells them that he can leak to them the class XII papers at a rate of ₹ 50,000 per subject. Through Pandit (Pankaj Tripathi) they meet Zafar (Ali Fazal), a former student of the college and a struggling musician. The fourth character is Lali (Manjot Singh), whose father runs a sweet shop. Lali is currently pursuing his degree through correspondence and like Hunny and Choocha also wants to get into the same college but doesn't have the marks. Pandit tells Lali to donate ₹ 250,000 in the college development fund to get a seat in return. Zafar's girlfriend, Neetu (Vishakha Singh), has broken up with him and his father is critically ill and needs money for his treatment.

Varun Sharma

Varun Sharma is an Indian actor who made his debut in Farhan Akhtar's 2013 film production Fukrey, which was a surprise hit in Bollywood. Since his appearance in Fukrey, he has appeared in other comedy films, such as Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon.

Early life and background

Sharma began his studies at The Lawrence School in Sanawar, later tranferring to the APJ school in Jalandhar to complete Class 11 and 12. He obtained a bachelor's degree in Media, Entertainment and Film Technology from Chandigarh. He acted in ads for many companies, including Virgin Mobile, Airtel, Ebay, and Nissan Micra, before appearing in his first film, Akhtar's Fukrey.
