Choudwar

Choudwar is a city and a municipality in Cuttack district in the state of Odisha, India.

Geography

Choudwar (Odia: ଚୌଦ୍ଵାର) is located on the banks of the river Mahanadi and river Birupa, on National Highway 05 and 42. TO the north of Cuttack- an ancient town and the cultural, economical capital of the state, Choudwar has the unique distinction of being an industrialzone in Odisha state. The principal language spoken here is Oriya. The STD Code of Choudwar is 0671, same as that of Cuttack, while the postal pincode is 754025/ 71 / 72

History

Choudwar once served as the capital for the Somakuli Keshari Kings of Odisha. Eight prominent Siva pithas were established by the Keshari dynasty in the vicinity of Choudwar, which are now in ruins. Tradition holds that it was the capital for Virat, the brother-in-law of Kichaka. Additionally, the five Pandava brothers, with their consort Draupadi, took shelter in Choudwar in their secret exile.

Fire station

A fire station (also called a fire house, fire hall, or firemen's hall) is a structure or other area set aside for storage of firefighting apparatus such as fire engines and related vehicles, personal protective equipment, fire hoses and other specialized equipment. It may also have dormitory living facilities and work areas for the use of fire fighters. Living areas are sometimes arranged above the garage bays where personnel without specific station duties during the night shift are allowed to sleep unless a dispatch is called. In that situation, firefighters may have special means to allow entry to the ground floor quickly when a call for help is received, such as sliding down a brass pole called a fireman's pole. This arrangement also allows for a raised area to hang hoses to dry to prevent damage. In a single story station, a tower-like structure is sometimes used for hose hanging.

An occupied station will usually have a station alarm system for receiving and annunciating an alarm, and indications of where and what caused the alarm. However, sometimes the only "alarm" is a telephone that is rung in case of emergency. In a volunteer fire department where volunteers do not staff the station, the firefighters may be summoned to the fire station by siren, radio or pagers, making a station alarm system superfluous.

Station officer

Station Officer is a rank in a number of Commonwealth and other fire services, including those in Australia, the United Kingdom and the New Zealand Fire Service.

Australia and New Zealand

In Australia and New Zealand a Station Officer is either the single officer on a watch in a single-appliance station, with three firefighters reporting to them, or one of several officers under a Senior Station Officer at a station with multiple appliances. In New Zealand the rank badge is a single impeller; in Australia the rank badge is two impellers. Station Officers in New Zealand wear red helmets with one blue stripe (prior to November 2013, they were yellow with one blue stripe).

In the Country Fire Authority and Metropolitan Fire Brigade Melbourne, Australia a Station Officer has one impeller, and a Senior Station Officer has two impellers

United Kingdom

In the United Kingdom, a Station Officer used to command a station or was responsible for several watches commanded by Sub-Officers (although they may have commanded a watch on a very large station). The rank badge was two impellers, they also had a white helmet with a half inch black band around it.
