Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match

A Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match, often abbreviated as a TLC, is a type of professional wrestling match that originated within the World Wrestling Federation (now known as the WWE).

The TLC match is a variation of a ladder match, which is modified to co-emphasize two other weapons: tables and chairs. The goal is to acquire the item (usually championship belts) which starts the match suspended above the ring. A TLC match can be seen as a more complicated ladder match, where tables and chairs, along with ladders, can also be used as legal foreign objects.

Another TLC match exists as a variation of a hardcore match, where tables, ladders, and chairs can also be used as legal foreign objects, but the only way to win this variation of the TLC match is by pinfall or submission.

Origin

The match originates around the tag teams of the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge and Christian. The particular weapons of tables, ladders and chairs were seen as unique to each team's style. The Hardys were seen as high-flying daredevils, and a key element to the Dudley Boyz gimmick was their flagrant use of tables as weapons. Edge and Christian became notable for using steel chairs in tandem against opponents.

WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs

TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs is a professional wrestling event produced annually by WWE, a Connecticut–based promotion, and broadcast live and available only through pay-per-view (PPV). The event was established in 2009, replacing Armageddon in the December slot of WWE's pay-per-view calendar. However, the concept of the show is based on the primary matches of the card each containing a stipulation utilizing tables, ladders and/or chairs as legal weapons. The event's concept was voted by fans via WWE's official website and was chosen over an event with street fight main events and an event featuring a single-elimination tournament.

The event was held only in indoor arenas in the United States. Championship bouts were scheduled on every card, with the lower-tier titles featured on the undercard and the top-tier featured on the main card.

The 2014 event was called Tables, Ladders, Chairs... and Stairs because there was the first ever steel steps match between Erick Rowan and Big Show.

WWE

World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (2015) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by WWE. It took place on December 13, 2015 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. It was the seventh event under the TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs chronology.

Eight matches were contested at the event, with one match contested on the pre-show. In the main event, Sheamus defeated Roman Reigns in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Post-match, Reigns viciously attacked Triple H, sent him to hospital.

Background

TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs consisted of professional wrestling matches that involved wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds or storylines that played out on WWE's primary television programs, Raw and SmackDown. Wrestlers portrayed heroes or villains as they followed a series of events that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches.

At Survivor Series, Roman Reigns defeated Dean Ambrose in a tournament final to win the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but Sheamus then cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and defeated Reigns to win the title. On the following night on Raw, Sheamus was scheduled to defend the championship against Reigns in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match at the event. On the November 30 episode of Raw, Reigns would received an early title match. In which he would win the title, if he could defeat Sheamus in under 5:15; which Reigns did win the match via disqualification, but he did not win the title.
