Lita Roza (14 March 1926 – 14 August 2008) was a singer of English and Spanish parentage whose 1953 hit record "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?" made her the first British solo singer to top the UK Singles Chart.
Born Lilian Patricia Lita Roza in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, she was the eldest of seven children. and began work at an early age to support the family. She owed her sultry looks and Latin passion to her Spanish father, an amateur accordionist who also played piano in Liverpool nightclubs.
At the age of 12, she saw an advert in the local newspaper for juvenile dancers and passed the audition. She took to the stage at that age in a pantomime and by the time she was 15 was working with the comedian, and fellow Merseysider, Ted Ray. When she was 16, she answered got a job as a singer in the "New Yorker" club in Southport for £5 a week before then shortly afterwards signing up with the Harry Roy Orchestra in London. She moved on from this to work with other bands of the era including that of Edmundo Ros.

John Emmett Raitt (January 29, 1917– February 20, 2005) was an American actor and singer best known for his performances in musical theater.
Raitt was born in Santa Ana, California. He got his start in theatre as a high school student at Fullerton Union High School in Fullerton, California. While there, he played in several drama productions in Plummer Auditorium. Raitt sang in the chorus of The Desert Song. (A few years before he died, Raitt once again came back to the Plummer to see a rehearsal, visit students and recollect his beginnings.) He is on the school's "Wall of Fame" for his accomplishments. In 1935, Raitt won the "football throw" at the California State High School Track and Field Championship; his mark of 220 feet remains the state record in that short-lived event. He was named "Athlete of the Meet" after that accomplishment. He graduated from the University of Redlands in 1939.
He is best known for his stage roles in the musicals Carousel, Oklahoma!,The Pajama Game, Carnival in Flanders, Three Wishes for Jamie, and A Joyful Noise, in which he set the standard for virile, handsome, strong-voiced leading men during the golden age of the Broadway musical. His only leading film role was in the 1957 movie version of The Pajama Game opposite Doris Day.

You've Changed - Jazz Piano Ballade
Actors: Ronnie Corbett (actor), Larry Taylor (actor), Richard Hills (writer), Sidney Green (writer), Lita Roza (actress), Russell Turner (producer),
Genres: Comedy,One of the UK's top girl vocalists of the 1950s was Lita Roza, but sadly she died on 14 August 2008. We remember you Lita with this 1960s TV performance of the appropriately titled song, 'I Remember You'.
An unashamedly sentimental ballad from Lita Roza, one of the best post-war singers of popular songs - the fifties being her high spot. Unfortunately she will always be associated with a crass number called "How Much is that Doggie in the Window?" (woof, woof!), which reached No 1 for just one week on 18 April 1953 (written by Bob Merrill, who was actually a writer of high-class pop songs) but was on the charts for 11 weeks. She apparently came to hate this song (understandably) and would never perform it live. A more warranted reputation would be her association with the Ted Heath band which she sang with for four years. Her first big hit came before the ‘charts' were inaugurated and was "Allentown Jail" which gave Jo Stafford's original version good competition. She had several other hits...

More Music Videos: ILoveProfHowdy.Com "Hey There" is a show tune from the musical play The Pajama Game, written by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. It was published in 1954. It was subsequently recorded by a number of artists. The recording by Rosemary Clooney reached #1 on Billboard's chart in 1954. Another version was also recorded about the same time by Sammy Davis, Jr., reaching #16 on Billboard's retail chart. The song (counting all recorded versions) also reached #1 on the Cash Box chart in 1954. In the context of the show, Sid sings it to a recording device, telling himself that he's foolish to continue his advances to Babe. He plays the tape back, and after responding to his own comments, sings a duet with himself. A popular edit of the single is in Only Fools and Horses, in the e...

Lita Roza (14 March 1926 – 14 August 2008) was a singer of English and Spanish parentage whose 1953 hit record "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?" made her the first Liverpool born solo singer to top the UK Singles Chart. However, she disliked the song so much that she never performed it live. She spent many years along with Dickie Valentine and Dennis Lotis as a singer with The Ted Heath Orchestra.
Lita Roza (14 March 1926 – 14 August 2008) was a singer of English and Spanish parentage whose 1953 hit record "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?" made her the first British female solo singer to top the UK Singles Chart.
On 14 February 1949, Valentine, who at the time was relatively unknown, was signed by Ted Heath to join his band, Ted Heath and his Music, as a singer to work alongside Lita Roza and Denis Lotis. He was voted the Top UK Male Vocalist in 1952 while singing with the Ted Heath Orchestra, the most successful of all British big bands, and again after going solo in 1954. In November 1954, Valentine was invited to sing at the Royal Command Performance, and in February 1955 he was top billed at the London Palladium. Not only did he sing, he also did jokes and impersonated many people, including Johnnie Ray, Frankie Laine, Mario Lanza, and Billy Daniels. He recorded two number one hits, "Christmas Alphabet" and "Finger of Suspicion". His first chart-topper came only two months after his marriage to...

s the first woman to have a UK Number One, you might think that Lita Roza would have been proud of the song that took her to the top of the charts, but in actual fact she never liked the song and only performed it once. Lita first took to the stage in a pantomime and by the time she was 15 she was performing with fellow Liverpudlian Ted Ray n 2002, just after she had unveiled the Liverpool Wall of Fame honouring all the Liverpool artists to have number one records, Lita recorded a special programme with BBC Radio Merseyside's Billy Butler and recalled her life in Liverpool, "I was born in Upper Pitt Street at my grandmother's house."
