Spain (i/ˈspeɪn/; Spanish: España [esˈpaɲa]), officially the Kingdom of Spain (Spanish: Reino de España), is a sovereign state largely located on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe, with archipelagos in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, and several small territories on and near the north African coast. Its mainland is bordered to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea except for a small land boundary with Gibraltar; to the north and northeast by France, Andorra, and the Bay of Biscay; and to the west and northwest by Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean. Along with France and Morocco, it is one of only three countries to have both Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines. Extending to 1,214 km (754 mi), the Portugal–Spain border is the longest uninterrupted border within the European Union.
Spanish territory includes two archipelagos: the Balearic Islands, in the Mediterranean Sea, and the Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean off the African coast. It also includes two major exclaves, Ceuta and Melilla, in continental North Africa; and the islands and peñones (rocks) of Alborán, Alhucemas, Chafarinas and Vélez de la Gomera. With an area of 505,990 km2 (195,360 sq mi), Spain is the second largest country in Western Europe and the European Union, and the fourth largest country in Europe. By population, Spain is the sixth largest in Europe and the fifth in the European Union.

On the second day of his official state visit to Spain, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto met Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and the two held talks. During meetings that continued over lunch, the two leaders discussed their bilateral relations, the abdication of Spain's King Juan Carlos, and the current free trade agreement between Mexico and the European Union. At a joint news conference held in the gardens of Madrid's Moncloa Palace, Pena Nieto expressed gratitude for the affection and kindness shown by King Juan Carlos to Mexico. He also commented on Mexico's future, saying it had embarked upon a path of development which he hoped would be as successful as that of Brazil, South America's strongest economy. PIGS is a term coined by the business and financial press as a way to refer to Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain during their current financial plight. What started as a pejorative label used by neoconservatives, mainly from English speaking countries, was eventually taken up for some time without any qualms by the media. Excessively high levels of public and private debt, government deficits, a property bubble and, generally speaking, very disappointing political and economic policies, have put the PIGS in the crosshairs. It is alleged that the PIGS won’t be able to bear the pressure of sharing a common currency with their stronger European brethren. In this analysis, the forced exit of at least some of the PIGS from the Euro would lead soon to the demise of the European currency. Yet...

The Pinana brothers group from Spain started off the 3rd International Sufi Festival in Delhi. The music of the flamenco guitar and voice by Curro and Carlos Pinana, were perfectly matched. The guitar riffs set off the evening, as the vocalist took over with songs that spoke the language of love, peace and search for the divine. If the vocals couldn't be faulted, neither could the lithe flamenco dancer whose steps held the audience captive as she dramatically shifted from easy to increasingly complex and sensuous moves. Hosting ICCR India (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) 3rd International Sufi Festival saw the participation from 6 countries- Spain, Russia, Iran, Tunisia, Azerbaijan and India. The event brought the Ghazal Sufi Ensemble group from Iran, Indira Naik from (Mumbai), Ind...

Barcelona Barrio: Checking Into Hotel Omm and Checking Out Fiestas de Gracia by Karina Correa for Fathom "Giant paellas, infinite tables on the street, rooftop cocktails. We made a two-minute video for Fathom about Hotel Omm and Fiestas de Gracia" When we heard that Karina Correa and Petrit Pula, owners of NYC tapas bar BIKINIS, were heading to Barcelona, we asked if they could take us along. Instead, they took their camera — Karina is a filmmaker by trade — checked into the Hotel Omm, then checked out the neighborhood. The result: a charming two-minute film about Omm and the Gracia district. BARCELONA – String together a bustling Barcelona cafe, an old-school New York diner, and a little East Village attitude, and you'll end up at Bikinis, the Manhattan bar we opened in 2011 with a fe...

In this vlog Stuart talks about the Spanish health system and shares his experiences with heath care in Spain. In general, the public system works well. Many people choose to have an additional private insurance for minor treatments, but most choose the public service for more serious medical interventions.

My experience with the health system in Madrid after recently having to go to the hospital. Is European healthcare better than that in the United States?
Although we are still going through the process of residency in Spain. We still needed to get healthcare cover while in Spain. Going self employed means that as we make tax contributions into the system as well as social security. The Spanish government recognises that payments are being made. Which also means that as such you can gain access to SIP cards which are the Spanish health cards. Without them you will need private healthcare as the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) is for tourists only. As soon as you aim to change your status to resident you will lose your entitlement to the card. Leaving only two options private insurance or gaining a SIP card.
We know you care about looking after your body, that you like feeling beautiful and that you love being pampered. Put yourself in our hands. Mind and body will enjoy experiences designed to improve your health and beauty.
You can be entitled to a health card if resident in Spain locally known as SIP card. To apply you can either get it at the foreigners office or your local Salud (Clinic). As a resident, your EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) won't work. As you are no longer "on holiday".
The Health Insurance Company I recommend to all my client is called Catalana Occidente. It´s one of the biggest Health Insurance Providers in Spain. They work with every private hospital you can think of, and the same applies for specialists, dental clinics, etc. If you're thinking about getting a great health policy that will give you coverage and the best service no matter where you live in Spain, Catalana Occidente is your safest bet. Ask anyone, or even better, just call me and I'll give you all the details you require. 2013. "DECASA". Channel branding. Canal Decasa is the fourth channel LUMBRE has tackled for Spain’s Chello Multicanal. You can check out what we did for Sol Musica, Canal Cocina and XTRM on our website and social media networks. Canal Decasa is the first and only lifestyle channel on pay television in Spain and is dedicated to the finest in décor, beauty, fashion, health and leisure. We spent a year working on Spanish broadcast design using a wide variety of techniques and styles. We re-imagined Sol Musica in 2D cell animation, but felt that live action with vector graphics better reflected Canal Cocina. XTRM called for hyper-realistic 3D and now we are throwing photo collage into the mix with Canal Decasa. We love the challenge and feel pretty confident that Chello Multicanal will run...

Transcription: In the midst of an economic crisis which is being used as an excuse to carry through endless social cuts, the conservative People's Party government in Spain aims to impose a new abortion law, even more restrictive than the first in 1985. 40 people were injured in northern Spain on Wednesday when a raging bull jumped into the packed grandstands of a bullring and ran amok. The terrifying incident happened in Tafalla, in the northern region of Navarra, and occurred when the animal leapt over the fence and climbed up the stairs of the stands knocking over people, including young children.
Victor Barrio, a Spanish bullfighter was gored to death by a bull in front of spectators at a corrida on Saturday. The incident was captured live on television.
Bull leaping dates back to Antiquity, when the bull was considered a sacred animal. Recortes (bull leaping) in Spain has been practised since at least the 18th century, and continues to grow in popularity as Spain moves away from bullfighting. I leave it to you to decide whether this is an acceptable alternative. Thank you for all your comments and yes the music is naff.
With Rafael Nadal running hot, the football team bringing home the Euro 2008 trophy and Alberto Contador's Tour de France triumph more recently, several experts claim that Spain is enjoying something of a sporting "Golden Age"-similar to the Spanish 17th century domination in painting and literature.
Spain's 10-0 victory over Tahiti in 2013 is the biggest in FIFA Confederations Cup history, Fernando Torres (4), David Villa (3), David Silva (2) and Juan Mata (1) all got in on the act.

Surfing and travelling: I Love the Seaside offers the best of both worlds, and a little more. For this guide we explored surf meccas in France, Spain and Portugal, extensively. From the well-known beaches of the Algarve and the Basque country to lesser-known, friendly surf areas like Galicia, Andalusia and Brittany. Of course, you can check where and when to surf, for all levels, but we aim for much more than that, by giving you a good sense of the backdrop, the scenery and the atmosphere. Our guide points out the best places to hang out, to do some funky shopping, or other activities; like horse riding, yoga, hiking, biking, visiting a spa or getting a good massage. https://www.expedia.com/Canary-Islands.d180087.Destination-Travel-Guides The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, just off Morocco in North Africa. Formed by volcanic eruptions and shaped by hot desert winds, they are comprised of 7 main islands. When powerful seismic forces lifted these islands out of the ocean millions of years ago, they sculpted landscapes of unimaginable beauty. So spectacular are the Canary Islands that for centuries, it was believed that this archipelago formed the peaks of the legendary lost city of Atlantis. Today, the Canary Islands are a magnet for sun seekers, beachcombers and adventurers from all over the world. With, 160 miles of coastline, 150 beaches and a climate that feels like it is always spring, the island of Fuerteventura...

Josh Sigurdson sits down with author and economic analyst John Sneisen to talk about the most recent bail-in on the world stage. Banco Popular was just bought by Santander for a stunning ONE EURO! It will be raising almost €7 billion to clean up the latter’s balance sheet. Banco Popular reported nearly €37.4 billion in gross non-performing assets and a coverage ratio of 44% at the end of fiscal year 2016! Holders of Additional Tier 1 (AT1) and Tier 2 (T2) securities are to be completely wiped out under the deal as part of the EU's “bail-in” mechanism. This is one of many bail-ins we've reported on at WAM over the years. We saw the introduction of bail-in regimes into the Canadian budget under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. We've watched bail-ins in Cyprus, Austria and attempted bail-ins o...
Taken in the central highlands of Spain, the autonomous regions Castilla-La-Mancha and Castilla-y-Léon. A region full of history and culture: The Goths, Romans and Moors have left their marks here. Don Quijote has fighted against the windmills here. This was the place of residence of El Greco, Diego de Velazquez and Francisco de Goya. The first time I've taken my dolly with traveling. It did a really good job. This was my first time out of the United States. This video was the feeling I got while in Spain. The layers and layers of history everywhere the eyes turned gave the sense of mystery and exciting eeriness. I went to Barcelona, Seville, Cadiz, and Madrid. Shot on naked little Canon HV40 (no lens adapters, tripods, rigs, or any of that stuff). Edited with Sony Vegas. Music: Cat Power's "Werewolf" www.catpowerthegreatest.com/ "Torture" by Richard Einhorn. Train sounds recorded by Owen Kehoe www.kehoe.org/owen
Canal +, the most watched paid channel in Spain, choose Plenty to develop their on-air image after a working on a taught pitch. But this time didn't work alone! We had the fortune to work with the beautiful off-air image created by Erretres, together with the great work of Canal+ creative team and D3 agency. Our goal was to renew the bond and connection between more than 14 channels of the antenna and their audience through multiple on-air and online / digital actions and social networks apps. With the inner elements of the social network like hashtags, tags, memes and emoticons we developed a close connection between the channel and the audience that has become a trusted community, the Community +. Next you will see a extensive development of the TV Branding based on very simple graphic...
Follow on: https://facebook.com/TSOphotography for more photos, videos and updates. This was filmed between 4th and 11th April 2011. I had the pleasure of visiting El Teide. Spain´s highest mountain @(3718m) is one of the best places in the world to photograph the stars and is also the location of Teide Observatories, considered to be one of the world´s best observatories. The goal was to capture the beautiful Milky Way galaxy along with one of the most amazing mountains I know El Teide. I have to say this was one of the most exhausting trips I have done. There was a lot of hiking at high altitudes and probably less than 10 hours of sleep in total for the whole week. Having been here 10-11 times before I had a long list of must-see locations I wanted to capture for this movie, but I a...
After many hours of hard work, throughout continental Spain (I leave the islands for the next time), I managed to edit this short film about the birds of my beloved country. Living and working in the richest European country regarding birds, I tried to film some of the Spanish specialities, mainly for non-Spanish birders. With so many different habitats and species, I had to move, driving to special locations sometimes separated more than 1000 km. The good thing was that after so many years birdwatching and working with birds, I really knew pretty well where to look for... Mainly shot with Canon HDLRS cameras and 400 5.6 lens (sometimes plus 1.4x and 2x III). http://archive.nandocosta.com/Titles-for-Mad-in-Spain-Festival I have recently produced this title sequence for the Madrid based event "Mad in Spain". The typographic elements are actually ceramic-based vintage lettering, which was hand-painted and later filmed in natural scenery. The intention was to depict very distinct elements as part of the same ecosystem, similarly to the various distinct speakers coming together for the event. Below is a link to a short behind the scenes video that illustrates some of the process. The project was shot using various lenses, but mainly a 14mm, 16-35mm, 50mm and a 100mm macro on a Canon 5D using the Dynamic Perception dolly. vimeo.com/40040586 For new video updates, follow me at https://twitter.com/nandocosta_work Director: Nando Costa Animation: ...

I got a message tonight
It was on my machine
She said, I quote,
'Hope you're not asleep
'Cause I'm in my bed
And the lights are dim
And the air is hot
So won't you come on in
I got a message tonight
It was on my machine
But I got home too late
I couldn't even see
That the stars above
Deter me from love
'Cause she's in her bed
And the lights are dim
And the air is hot
So won't you come on in
