Prom

In the United States, and increasingly in the United Kingdom and Canada, prom is a formal (black tie) dance or gathering of high school students. This event is typically held near the end of the senior year (the last year of high school). Proms figure greatly in popular culture and is a major event among high school students. High school juniors attending the prom may call it "junior prom" while high-school seniors may call it "senior prom" or "senior ball". In practice, this event may be a combined junior/senior dance.

At a prom, a Prom King and Prom Queen may be revealed. These are honorary titles awarded to students elected in a school-wide vote prior to the prom, and seniors are usually awarded these titles. Juniors may also be honored, but would be called "Prom Prince" or "Prom Princess." Other students may be honored with inclusion in a "Prom Court." The selection method for a Prom Court is similar to that of Homecoming Queen/Princess, King, and Court. Inclusion in a Prom Court may be a reflection of popularity of those students elected and their level of participation in school activities, such as clubs or sports. The Prom Queen and Prom King may be given crowns to wear. Members of the Prom Court may be given sashes to wear and photographed together.

Junior Prom

Junior Prom is a 1946 American drama, directed by Arthur Dreifuss and produced by Sam Katzman and Maurice Duke. It was released by Monogram Pictures.

Plot summary

Musical teacher Miss Hinklefink receives criticism from her student Lee Watson at Whitney High School, because of the poor plot of famous operas.

Later during the lecture, when Miss Hinklefink is away for a few minutes, the students learn about meter from Harry "The Hipster" by listening to swing.

When Lee as so often is in the principal's office, a local businessman enters the room and offers to pay for the football team's new uniforms if his son, Jimmy Forrest, is elected as student body president. The principal, Townley, rejects the offer.

However, when Jimmy's opponent in the election, Freddie Trimball, hears of Mr Forrest's generous offer, he drops out of the race. Things get more complicated when Jimmy asks Freddie's girlfriend, Dodie Rogers, to go to the prom with him. She rejects him, even though he tells her is going to be elected student body president for certain.

Junior Prom (band)

Junior Prom is a music duo composed of Mark Solomich and John Paul Frank. Based in Brooklyn, the two have been operating since 2012 and released their debut EP in February 2014. They’re currently working on their debut LP which will be released next year via Elektra Records.

Career

Early beginnings

Solomich and Ratensperger were both former members of The Rassle. Ratensperger was a member of The Virgins and Solomich of The Takeover UK. They met in 2010 in New York through mutual friends. "Basically from day one, we started playing music together." When it came time to finally decide on a band name, they received some help from a fellow bar goer. "We were talking about possible names and someone suggested Senior Prom, and this old drunk dude sitting a couple feet down was eavesdropping and he was like ‘na na na – Junior Prom’."

Late 2013

In 2013, Jeff Castelaz signed the duo to Elektra Records and they released their first single "Sheila Put The Knife Down" on September 30, 2013. They then released their second single "International" on December 17, 2013. The single features Mark’s 66-year-old landlord singing backup vocals.
