In his final film, Mario Lanza plays world renowned opera singer Tonio Costa who is as brilliant as he is profligate. But when Tonio falls head over vocals for the beautiful and deaf Christa (Johanna von Koczian), he sets out on a musical mission of mercy, combing the capitals for musical specialists. For only when Christa can hear Tony sing, will he in turn hear her say 'I Do". Also starring Zsa-Zsa Gabor.

This is the original 45 flip side of "Who's that Knocking" on Shad Records. The Genies, who are mainly from Long Beach, Long Island, recorded "Who's That Knocking" in June 1958 but it wasn't released until March 1959.
The original members: Roy Hammond, Bill Gains, Alexander Faison, and Fred Jones formed in 1956. They didn't record until Claude Johnson from Brooklyn came aboard. Johnson, the only member not from the Long Beach area, named them the Genies. He had sung with a Brooklyn group that included Eugene Pitt, who never sang with the Genies. Bob Shad, the owner of Shad Records saw them singing on a beach and invited them to audition for his label.
Without warning, three days into the gig, second tenor Bill Gains ran off to Canada with a woman and has never been seen or heard from since. This occurred while the Genies were playing their first big engagement at New York's Apollo Theatre. The group became history in 1959. The Warwick label however later released three singles "There Goes That Train" flip side"Crazy Love," "Just Like The Bluebird" flip side "Twistin' Pneumonia," and the best, "Crazy Feeling," in 1961.

For the First Time is tenor star Mario Lanza's final film, released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1959.
Filmed on location in 1958 in Capri, Salzburg, Berlin and at the Rome Opera House, the film told the sentimental story of an operatic tenor (Tony Costa) who finds love for the first time with a young German woman (played by Johanna von Koczian), who happens to be deaf.
The film was directed by Rudolph Mate, and featured Kurt Kasznar and Zsa Zsa Gabor in supporting roles. Critics singled out Lanza's singing of "Vesti la Giubba" from Pagliacci and the Death Scene from Otello for special praise, with Howard Thompson of The New York Times calling it the tenor's "most disarming vehicle in years."

According to MGM records the film earned $710,000 in the US and Canada and $975,000 elsewhere, resulting in a profit of $1,685,000.

This is the original 45 flip side of "Who's that Knocking" on Shad Records. The Genies, who are mainly from Long Beach, Long Island, recorded "Who's That Knocking" in June 1958 but it wasn't released until March 1959.
The original members: Roy Hammond, Bill Gains, Alexander Faison, and Fred Jones formed in 1956. They didn't record until Claude Johnson from Brooklyn came aboard. Johnson, the only member not from the Long Beach area, named them the Genies. He had sung with a Brooklyn group that included Eugene Pitt, who never sang with the Genies. Bob Shad, the owner of Shad Records saw them singing on a beach and invited them to audition for his label.
Without warning, three days into the gig, second tenor Bill Gains ran off to Canada with a woman and has never been seen or heard from since. This occurred while the Genies were playing their first big engagement at New York's Apollo Theatre. The group became history in 1959. The Warwick label however later released three singles "There Goes That Train" flip side"Crazy Love," "Just Like The Bluebird" flip side "Twistin' Pneumonia," and the best, "Crazy Feeling," in 1961.

City authorities recently drained and cleaned the canal for the first time since 2001, removing over 40 tons of debris in the process. But it wasn’t all beer cans clogging things up. Thousands of artifacts were pulled from the muck, and they range from fascinating to downright bizarre.
