This videos has been recorded where the Alaknanda river merges with the Bhagirathi river forming the ganga river.
At Devprayag the Bhagirathi meets the Alaknanda to form the mighty Ganga and may believe that this confluence is the most sacred location in the Valley of The Gods,
Ukhimath is the winter home of Lord Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar.
The Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath dates back to the time of Mandhaata, ancestor of Rama. It is the winter seat of all Panch Kedar deities when Kedarnath, Tungnath and Madmaheshwar shrines are under snow. The Utsav Doli of Lord Kedarnath is brought from Kedarnath to this place, and Winter Pujas of Lord Kedarnath are performed here, in addition to the regular Pujas honouring Lord Omkareshwar. The Head Priests/ Pundits of Kedarnath, known as Rawals, live here during the long winter. We visited the temple and had a special Puja performed by one of the priests. There is an interesting story on the origins of Ukhimath, namely that Usha (Daughter of Vanasur) dreamt of Anirudh (Grandson of Lord Krishna) and managed to seek him out by describing her dream to a Seer. Ukhimath was originally known as Ushamath, as their wedding was solemnized here within the temple complex. We visited the place. Even today, marriages are solemnized around the well-preserved ancient altar on which the holy fire (Agni) is placed and where marriage vows and 'Saptapadi' (seven steps - actually seven rounds of the fire) are taken. This region lies in the foothills of the Himalayas where the Ganges River descends from the mountains. I visited not knowing what to expect, and I was both awed and saddened by the experience. The beauty of nature and the Hindu ceremonies contrasted with the poverty and suffering on the streets. The people I met had a high-spirited resilience that seemed to stem from surviving and maintaining their devotion through a challenging life.

See the damage done to the famous confluence at Devprayag, where the two mighty streams of the Ganga come together and officially form the Ganga or the Ganges river - the most famous and important river of South Asia!
Whereas prior to the calamitous two days of 15th and 16th June 2013, the rivers flowed down their respective gorges to meet at this temple town, pilgrims descended to the steps of the ghat at the sangam or meeting point and the little temple had brisk visitation, the pillars of the halls held up three layers of havan-worthy plinths and life went on in the little temple town which was accessible from a swinging suspension bridge over the Bhagirathi.
Then on the night of 15th June and throughout the day of 16th June, the rains just kept coming down and didn't let up. Massive amounts of water poured down the rivers, the water levels rose and rose, and the landscape was changed forever! The Alaknanda dashed repeatedly against the hillside and carved out a new course for itself, using large boulders and rocks as ammunition, leaving a tiny island stranded in the middle of its course. Meanwhile, the river level rose so much on a permanent basis, that even weeks after the flood, the ghats and the lower plinths have all gone underwater, and the water level now laps at the pillars of the upper-most platform, almost touching the temple itself... Before long, all these structures would have disappeared, when the next big flood comes in, and there will be more. Such is the young and brash nature of the Himalaya and an eco-system that is both emperilled and in flux.

The aarti is performed every evening at the point where Bhagirathi River meets Alaknanda River to form Ganga River.
On festive occasions the sound of aarti echoes in the mountain and with the sound of gushing waters of two rivers- a hair raising experience indeed!!!
The place is famous for its 10,000 year old temple where Sri Ram prayed for forgiveness after he had killed Ravan.
He prayed for 8-long-years, as a result his footprints were left on the stone on which he stood.
A temple exist in the place where he stood.

Devprayag
Devprayag (Devaprayāg) (Devanagari: देव प्रयाग) is a town and a nagar panchayat (municipality) in Tehri Garhwal district in the state of Uttarakhand, India, and is one of the Panch Prayag (five confluences) of Alaknanda River where Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet and take the name Ganga or Ganges River.
Overview
Traditionally, it is considered to be the place where sage Devasharma led his ascetic life, giving birth its present name, Devprayag. It is one of the five sacred confluences in the hills and is an important place of pilgrimage for devout Hindus.
"Devaprayaga" means "Godly Confluence" in Sanskrit. As per Hindu scriptures, Devaprayaga is the sacred event of merging two heavenly rivers, Alakananda and Bhagirathi, to form the holy Ganges.
On a terrace in the upper part of the village is the temple of Raghunathji, built of huge stones, pyramidal in form and capped by a white cupola.
Devprayag is the home of the late Acharya, Pt. Chakradhar Joshi (a scholar in Astronomy and Astrology) who established Nakshatra Vedh Shala (an observatory) in the year 1946. This is located on a mountain called Dashrathanchal at Devprayag. The observatory is well equipped with two telescopes and many books to support research in astronomy. It also contains about 3000 manuscripts from 1677 AD onwards collected from various parts of country. Apart from the latest equipment, it also has the ancient equipment like Surya Ghati,Dhruv Ghati which showcase the pride of Bharatiya progress in the field of astronomy. Shri Dr. Prabhakar Joshi and Acharya Shri Bhaskar Joshi (Popularly known as Guruji) are currently in charge and caretakers of the observatory.

Ukhimath is the winter home of Lord Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar.
The Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath dates back to the time of Mandhaata, ancestor of Rama. It is the winter seat of all Panch Kedar deities when Kedarnath, Tungnath and Madmaheshwar shrines are under snow. The Utsav Doli of Lord Kedarnath is brought from Kedarnath to this place, and Winter Pujas of Lord Kedarnath are performed here, in addition to the regular Pujas honouring Lord Omkareshwar. The Head Priests/ Pundits of Kedarnath, known as Rawals, live here during the long winter. We visited the temple and had a special Puja performed by one of the priests. There is an interesting story on the origins of Ukhimath, namely that Usha (Daughter of Vanasur) dreamt of Anirudh (Grandson of Lord Krishna) and managed to seek him out by describing her dream to a Seer. Ukhimath was originally known as Ushamath, as their wedding was solemnized here within the temple complex. We visited the place. Even today, marriages are solemnized around the well-preserved ancient altar on which the holy fire (Agni) is placed and where marriage vows and 'Saptapadi' (seven steps - actually seven rounds of the fire) are taken. This region lies in the foothills of the Himalayas where the Ganges River descends from the mountains. I visited not knowing what to expect, and I was both awed and saddened by the experience. The beauty of nature and the Hindu ceremonies contrasted with the poverty and suffering on the streets. The people I met had a high-spirited resilience that seemed to stem from surviving and maintaining their devotion through a challenging life.

See the damage done to the famous confluence at Devprayag, where the two mighty streams of the Ganga come together and officially form the Ganga or the Ganges river - the most famous and important river of South Asia!
Whereas prior to the calamitous two days of 15th and 16th June 2013, the rivers flowed down their respective gorges to meet at this temple town, pilgrims descended to the steps of the ghat at the sangam or meeting point and the little temple had brisk visitation, the pillars of the halls held up three layers of havan-worthy plinths and life went on in the little temple town which was accessible from a swinging suspension bridge over the Bhagirathi.
Then on the night of 15th June and throughout the day of 16th June, the rains just kept coming down and didn't let up. Massive amounts of water poured down the rivers, the water levels rose and rose, and the landscape was changed forever! The Alaknanda dashed repeatedly against the hillside and carved out a new course for itself, using large boulders and rocks as ammunition, leaving a tiny island stranded in the middle of its course. Meanwhile, the river level rose so much on a permanent basis, that even weeks after the flood, the ghats and the lower plinths have all gone underwater, and the water level now laps at the pillars of the upper-most platform, almost touching the temple itself... Before long, all these structures would have disappeared, when the next big flood comes in, and there will be more. Such is the young and brash nature of the Himalaya and an eco-system that is both emperilled and in flux.

Our guide, Bhatti ji, explaining us that Devprayag is the holy union of rivers Bhagirathi, Alaknanda & the mystic river Saraswati (underground as per mythology) to form Ganga. One of the five prayag's, this is the most sacred one. There is also a rock which has a foot imprint of Lord Rama (an incarnation of Vishnu) when he came for penance after killing the evil king Ravana.

Devaprayag is one of the five important prayags (confluences) on Himalays. Devprayag is about 70 kms from Rishikesh and located about 800 meters above sea level. It is the confluence of river Alakananda and Bhagirathi whih forms river Ganga thereafter. From Devprayag we went to Rudraprayag. Rudraprayag is an important tourist hub from where you can go to Kedarnath and Badrinath. Rudraprayag is 70 kms from Devprayag and 165 kms from Haridwar. It is situated on Himalayan Mountains about 650 meters above sea level. We visited Rudraprayag twice during our Chardham tour.
Our next destination was Kedarnath. While going to Kedarnath one has to go through Gourikund. Gourikund is the end point of Bus journey from where one has to trek to Kedarnath. This place is 2000 meters above sea level and extremely cold. The place is deserted in winter because of extreme cold. As this is the gateway to Kedarnath people go here only in summer when the Kedarnath temple opens.
We visited famous Gouri temple and ganapati temple in Gourikund. Besides there is a shiva temple in front of Gouri temple known as Uma Maheswar temple. There is a hot spring in Gourikund. People take bath in the hotspring before going to Kedarnath. We also took bath in Gourikund hot spring.
From Gourikund we started our trekking to Kedaranath. Bobby and I went on horse and my mom (85 years age) went by a palki carried by four people. The route was much better compared to Gomukh route from Gangotri.
It was a 14 kms trekking route from Gourikund to Kedarnath. The views were brilliant at both the sides with mountains, clouds, snowpeaks and waterfalls.Visiting Kedarnath at a hight of 3585 meters above sea level was a great experience. As per the legend, the temple was built by the Pandavas after the Mahabharat war. Kedarnath is regarded as one of the 12 jyotirlingas. The place was extremely beautiful with snowy mountain views.

See the damage done to the famous confluence at Devprayag, where the two mighty streams of the Ganga come together and officially form the Ganga or the Ganges river - the most famous and important river of South Asia!
Whereas prior to the calamitous two days of 15th and 16th June 2013, the rivers flowed down their respective gorges to meet at this temple town, pilgrims descended to the steps of the ghat at the sangam or meeting point and the little temple had brisk visitation, the pillars of the halls held up three layers of havan-worthy plinths and life went on in the little temple town which was accessible from a swinging suspension bridge over the Bhagirathi.
Then on the night of 15th June and throughout the day of 16th June, the rains just kept coming down and didn't let up. Massive amounts of water poured down the rivers, the water levels rose and rose, and the landscape was changed forever! The Alaknanda dashed repeatedly against the hillside and carved out a new course for itself, using large boulders and rocks as ammunition, leaving a tiny island stranded in the middle of its course. Meanwhile, the river level rose so much on a permanent basis, that even weeks after the flood, the ghats and the lower plinths have all gone underwater, and the water level now laps at the pillars of the upper-most platform, almost touching the temple itself... Before long, all these structures would have disappeared, when the next big flood comes in, and there will be more. Such is the young and brash nature of the Himalaya and an eco-system that is both emperilled and in flux.

Circuit refused to retry a case Monday to overturn the government rules on net neutrality, which prevent Internet providers from blocking or slowing Internet traffic in the U.S., The Washington Post reported. Three people, including a husband and wife, were killed when a car they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a 500-metres-deep gorge in Mulyagaon near Devprayag in Tehri district, 125km from Dehradun. The vehicle bearing the registration number UK07 BQ 3945 was on its way to Tharali in Chamoli district from Dehradun ...
