New Zealand justified their status as Rugby World Cup favourites but were pushed to the limit by South Africa to win the first RWC semi-final at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday.After a disappointing and indisciplined first half, the All Blacks turned the match on its head with a 10-point burst in the opening 12 minutes of the second half to secure a lead they would never lose.Dan Carter's kicking and tries from flanker Jerome Kaino and replacement wing Beauden Barrett were enough to see off the Springboks, who could score no more than six penalties, five of them from Handre Pollard.South Africa edged the first half 12-7, largely because the All Blacks presented them with nine penalties and Pollard kicked four of them.SUCCESSION OF OFFSIDESNew Zealand were ahead 7-3 thanks to a try after six minutes in the right-hand corner by Kaino and Carter?s conversion. But a succession of offsides and a yellow card for Kaino, for kicking the ball away when in an offside position, left the tournament favourites in a precarious position at halfway.The rain, light in the first half, was noticeably heavier at the start of the second and a piece of brilliance by Carter, who dropped a goal from 25-plus metres, cut the deficit to two points before Kaino returned.Julian Savea fumbled a clever grubber kick but it was only a temporary reprieve for South Africa. In the 52nd minute, Carter and Ma?a Nonu created space on the left for replacement wing Beauden Barrett (pictured above) to touch down and Carter converted from close to the touchline. England’s dream is over, losing 33-13 to the old foe Australia at Twickenham in their do-or-die Pool A clash on Saturday.
As brilliant as fly-half Bernard Foley was for the Wallabies, as poor were England’s forwards – experiencing what was unthinkable only a few years ago as the Australian pack lorded it over them, even in the scrum.
Foley scored all Australia's 17 points in the first half via two converted tries and a penalty, while England had a lone Owen Farrell penalty to show for the efforts at the break.
England resumed with renewed vigour, looking to cut that deficit as soon as possible, but instead it was that man Foley who stretched the lead to 20-3.
England have become the first hosts to be eliminated at the group stages of the Rugby World Cup after defeat against Australia.

2. They set their record for the most points ever scored against France (by any nation) - toppling their 61-10 victory in Wellington in 2007.
3. Julian Savea has now tied the record for most tries in a single World Cup, tying Jonah Lomu (1999) and Bryan Habana (2007) with eight tries.
4. Ma'a Nonu and Conrad Smith also continue their grasp on the record of most Rugby World Cup wins without tasting defeat, having won 13 consecutive World Cup games. The list of unbeaten World Cup players consists of many current All Blacks. Most RWC without losing - Nonu: 13 (NZ All Blacks), Smith: 13 (NZ All Blacks), Jerome Kaino: 12 (NZ All Blacks), Sam Whitelock: 12 (NZ All Blacks), Sonny Bill Williams: 12 (NZ All Blacks), Owen Franks: 11 (NZ All Blacks), Francois Steyn: 11 (SA Springboks).
5. Savea surpassed the number of test tries scored by Jonah Lomu. Savea now has 38 tries in 39 tests, while Lomu took 63 tests to get his 37 tries.

Rugby World Cup
The Rugby World Cup is a men's rugby union tournament contested every four years between the top international teams. The tournament was first held in 1987, when the tournament was co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia. New Zealand are the current champions, having defeated Australia in the final of the 2015 tournament in England.
The winners are awarded the William Webb Ellis Cup, named after William Webb Ellis, the Rugby School pupil who — according to a popular legend — invented rugby by picking up the ball during a football game. Four countries have won the trophy; New Zealand have won it three times, two teams have won twice, Australia and South Africa, while England have won it once.
The tournament is administered by World Rugby, the sport's international governing body. Sixteen teams were invited to participate in the inaugural tournament in 1987, however since 1999 twenty teams have taken part. Japan will host the next event in 2019.
Format
Qualification
Qualifying tournaments were introduced for the second tournament, where eight of the sixteen places were contested in a twenty-four-nation tournament. The inaugural World Cup in 1987, did not involve any qualifying process; instead, the 16 places were automatically filled by seven eligible International Rugby Football Board (IRFB, now World Rugby) member nations, and the rest by invitation.

New Zealand justified their status as Rugby World Cup favourites but were pushed to the limit by South Africa to win the first RWC semi-final at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday.After a disappointing and indisciplined first half, the All Blacks turned the match on its head with a 10-point burst in the opening 12 minutes of the second half to secure a lead they would never lose.Dan Carter's kicking and tries from flanker Jerome Kaino and replacement wing Beauden Barrett were enough to see off the Springboks, who could score no more than six penalties, five of them from Handre Pollard.South Africa edged the first half 12-7, largely because the All Blacks presented them with nine penalties and Pollard kicked four of them.SUCCESSION OF OFFSIDESNew Zealand were ahead 7-3 thanks to a try after six minutes in the right-hand corner by Kaino and Carter?s conversion. But a succession of offsides and a yellow card for Kaino, for kicking the ball away when in an offside position, left the tournament favourites in a precarious position at halfway.The rain, light in the first half, was noticeably heavier at the start of the second and a piece of brilliance by Carter, who dropped a goal from 25-plus metres, cut the deficit to two points before Kaino returned.Julian Savea fumbled a clever grubber kick but it was only a temporary reprieve for South Africa. England’s dream is over, losing 33-13 to the old foe Australia at Twickenham in their do-or-die Pool A clash on Saturday.
As brilliant as fly-half Bernard Foley was for the Wallabies, as poor were England’s forwards – experiencing what was unthinkable only a few years ago as the Australian pack lorded it over them, even in the scrum.
Foley scored all Australia's 17 points in the first half via two converted tries and a penalty, while England had a lone Owen Farrell penalty to show for the efforts at the break.
England resumed with renewed vigour, looking to cut that deficit as soon as possible, but instead it was that man Foley who stretched the lead to 20-3.
England have become the first hosts to be eliminated at the group stages of the Rugby World Cup after defeat against Australia.

The New Zealand All Blacks have one hand on the World Cup, can anyone stop the favorites? Julian Savea get's Man of the Match with 'Jonah Lomu' like performance. For comparison, this is sort of like when Germany demolished Brazil in the FIFA World Cup Semifinal but only difference is that France gave their all but couldn't match the New Zealand All Blacks on this day. 1. 62 points is the most a side has ever scored at the knockout stage of the Rugby World Cup.
2. They set their record for the most points ever scored against France (by any nation) - toppling their 61-10 victory in Wellington in 2007.
3. Julian Savea has now tied the record for most tries in a single World Cup, tying Jonah Lomu (1999) and Bryan Habana (2007) with eight tries.
4. Ma'a Nonu and Conrad Smith also continue their grasp on the record of most Rugby World Cup wins without tasting defeat, having won 13 consecutive World Cup games. The list of unbeaten World Cup players consists of many current All Blacks. Most RWC without losing - Nonu: 13 (NZ All Blacks), Smith: 13 (NZ All Blacks), Jerome Kaino: 12 (NZ All Blacks), Sam Whitelock: 12 (NZ All Blacks), Sonny Bill Williams: 12 (NZ All Blacks), Owen Franks: 11 (NZ All Blacks), Francois Steyn: 11 (SA Springboks).
5. Savea surpassed the number of test tries scored by Jonah Lomu. Savea now has 38 tries in 39 tests, while Lomu took 63 tests to get his 37 tries.
6. The All Blacks became the first team to score 300 tries at Rugby World Cups today. No other nation has gone past 200.
7. Three players have scored a hat-trick in the knockout stages of a Rugby World Cup. South Africa's Chester Williams scored four tries in a 42-14 quarterfinal win over Western Samoa in 1999, Jonah Lomu scored his famous four against England in the 1995 semifinal, while Savea has now joined them after his treble this morning.
8. The All Blacks recorded the biggest win ever in the World Cup knockout stage. Here are the three biggest victories:

9. The All Blacks are the first team to make seven Rugby World Cup semifinals.
