Cloud computing, also known as 'on-demand computing', is a kind of Internet-based computing, where shared resources, data and information are provided to computers and other devices on-demand. It is a model for enabling ubiquitous, on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources. Cloud computing and storage solutions provide users and enterprises with various capabilities to store and process their data in third-party data centers. It relies on sharing of resources to achieve coherence and economies of scale, similar to a utility (like the electricity grid) over a network. At the foundation of cloud computing is the broader concept of converged infrastructure and shared services.
Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort.
In meteorology, a cloud is an aerosol comprising a visible mass of liquid droplets or frozen crystals made of water or various chemicals. The droplets or particles are suspended in the atmosphere above the surface of a planetary body. On Earth clouds are formed by the saturation of air in the homosphere when air cools or gains water vapor.
Cloud types in the troposphere, the atmospheric layer closest to Earth's surface, have Latin names due to the universal adaptation of Luke Howard's nomenclature. It was formally proposed in December 1802 and published for the first time the following year. It became the basis of a modern international system that classifies these tropospheric aerosols into several physical forms which can be found at various altitude levels or étages.
Remote Desktop Services (RDS), known as Terminal Services in Windows Server 2008 and earlier, is one of the components of Microsoft Windows that allows a user to take control of a remote computer or virtual machine over a network connection. RDS is Microsoft's implementation of thin client, where Windows software and the entire desktop of the computer running RDS, are made accessible to a remote client machine that supports Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). With RDS, only software user interfaces are transferred to the client system. All input from the client system is transmitted to the server, where software execution takes place. This is in contrast to application streaming systems, like Microsoft App-V, in which computer programs are streamed to the client on-demand and executed on the client machine.
RemoteFX was added to RDS as part of Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1.
RDS first appeared in Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition as "Terminal Services". Starting with Windows 2000, it became a mainstay of the Windows NT family of operating systems and was improved with each version of Windows. The rename to "Remote Desktop Services" occurred with Windows Server 2008 R2 in 2009.

In celebration and triumph of the power of the Internet, this three-minute animation details the "State of Cloud Computing," highlighting the efforts of companies like project patron Salesforce.com, a software as a service (SaaS) company, best known for its CRM products. While the average person may not be able to clearly define cloud computing, this video helps everyday folks understand that they are actually in the cloud – whether it’s through their online email account, bank account or tending to their Farmville crops while on Facebook. The video is part of a broader family of videos, each dedicated to the past, present and future of various sectors. The “State of” series first launched with the viral success “The State of the Internet” in early 2010.
"I'm going to take you out to the edge to show you what the future looks like." So begins a16z partner Peter Levine as he takes us on a "crazy" tour of the history and future of cloud computing -- from the constant turns between centralized to distributed computing, and even to his "Forrest Gump rule" of investing in these shifts. But... how can we say cloud computing is coming to an "end" when it hasn't even really started yet?? Because the edge -- where self-driving cars and drones are really data centers with wheels or wings -- is where it's at. So where does machine learning in the enterprise come in? How does this change IT? As software programs the world, these are some of the shifts to look at...
