A huge fire has broken out at a block of flats at Lancaster West Estate, in the Latimer Road area of west London, police and firefighters have said. Footage of the fire was filmed by a BBC reporter. Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said a "major incident" had been declared.

Dany Cotton, the London fire commissioner, said she expected firefighters to be on the scene for the "next 24 hours" adding when she arrived on the scene there was a "significant fire in progress".
Ms Cotton described the fire as "unprecedented" and will require further investigation.

i/ˈlʌndən/ is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. It was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries and in 2011 had a resident population of 7,375, making it the smallest city in England. Since at least the 19th century, the term London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms Greater London, a region of England governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. The conurbation also covers two English counties: the small district of the City of London and the county of Greater London. The latter constitutes the vast majority of London, though historically it was split between Middlesex (a now abolished county), Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire.

Great Fire of London
The Great Fire of London was a major conflagration that swept through the central parts of the English city of London, from Sunday, 2 September to Wednesday, 5 September 1666. The fire gutted the medieval City of London inside the old Roman city wall. It threatened, but did not reach, the aristocratic district of Westminster, Charles II's Palace of Whitehall, and most of the suburban slums. It consumed 13,200 houses, 87 parish churches, St Paul's Cathedral and most of the buildings of the City authorities. It is estimated to have destroyed the homes of 70,000 of the City's 80,000 inhabitants. The death toll is unknown but traditionally thought to have been small, as only six verified deaths were recorded. This reasoning has recently been challenged on the grounds that the deaths of poor and middle-class people were not recorded, while the heat of the fire may have cremated many victims leaving no recognisable remains. A melted piece of pottery on display at the Museum of London found by archaeologists in Pudding Lane, where the fire started, shows that the temperature reached 1700 °C.

London Grammar
London Grammar are a British trio formed by Hannah Reid, Dan Rothman and Dominic 'Dot' Major. Their debut EP Metal & Dust was released in February 2013 by Metal & Dust Recordings Ltd, while their debut album If You Wait was released on 9 September 2013. If You Wait has been certified platinum in Australia and the UK, selling over 70,000 and 300,000 copies respectively.
History
2009–12: Early career
Both vocalist Hannah Reid and guitarist Dan Rothman are originally from London and met in a residence hall at the University of Nottingham during their first year in 2009. Rothman saw a picture of Reid on Facebook with a guitar and sent her a message to see if she wanted to collaborate. They were joined by Northampton native Dominic 'Dot' Major (keyboard, djembe, drums) a year later, after he began playing music together with Rothman. They chose the name as "not only was it where we're from, but London is also so international and multicultural that it actually felt like quite a universal name in a way."

During the 1920s, cinematographer Claude Friese-Greene travelled across the UK with his new colour film camera. His trip ended in London, with some of his most stunning images, and these were recently revived and restored by the BFI, and shared across social media and video websites. Since February I have attempted to capture every one of his shots, standing in his footsteps, and using modern equivalents of his camera and lenses. This video is a time lapse of London shot in RAW footage to bring out the beautiful colours you find around London at day and at night. The film was produced by myself and I was lucky to have such a great team of people to work with. Joe Gallon provided all the shots and visual editing, he shot it on a Canon 5D Mark 2, as well as a Canon 550D and used a range of filters and lenses. Matt Fletcher composed the beautiful piano piece that flows with the pace of the footage and gives it momentum. Isla Day read the lovely poem Emma Bennallick and I wrote just for this project. Isla's innocent voice gives extreme contrast to how the poem usually reads and to how London is usually perceived, which creates a whole new way of looking at London. During the 1920s, cinematographer Claude Friese-Greene travelled across the UK with his new colour film camera. His trip ended in London, with some of his most stunning images, and these were recently revived and restored by the BFI, and shared across social media and video websites.
Since February I have attempted to capture every one of his shots, standing in his footsteps, and using modern equivalents of his camera and lenses. This has been a personal study, that has revealed how little London has changed.

This video is a time lapse of London shot in RAW footage to bring out the beautiful colours you find around London at day and at night. The film was produced by myself and I was lucky to have such a great team of people to work with.
Joe Gallon provided all the shots and visual editing, he shot it on a Canon 5D Mark 2, as well as a Canon 550D and used a range of filters and lenses.
Matt Fletcher composed the beautiful piano piece that flows with the pace of the footage and gives it momentum.
Isla Day read the lovely poem Emma Bennallick and I wrote just for this project. Isla's innocent voice gives extreme contrast to how the poem usually reads and to how London is usually perceived, which creates a whole new way of looking at London.
I did all the sound design and the final mix of this project. I wanted sound to be just loud enough to give the footage life, but not too loud that it took the emotion away from the music.

So Hello from London! Time for a new destination. This is a city that I haven't visited in almost 4 years. So we're both very excited to be in London. And we're going to be making a little video guide. Actually a really big video guide because we plan on showing you 50 different things to do around London.
Our first stop was Trafalgar Square. This square leads to a lot of central attractions, so it's a nice place to people watch, get your bearings, and plan out where you want to go in the city.
The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the Thames. It offers a bird's eye view of the city.
Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence for Britain's sovereigns since 1837. The State Rooms at Buckingham Palace are open to visitors every year.

The Tower of London sits on the north bank of the River Thames.

So Hello from London! Time for a new destination. This is a city that I haven't visited in almost 4 years. So we're both very excited to be in London. And we're going to be making a little video guide. Actually a really big video guide because we plan on showing you 50 different things to do around London.
Our first stop was Trafalgar Square. This square leads to a lot of central attractions, so it's a nice place to people watch, get your bearings, and plan out where you want to go in the city.
The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the Thames. It offers a bird's eye view of the city.
Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence for Britain's sovereigns since 1837. The State Rooms at Buckingham Palace are open to visitors every year.

Why am I doing this? I travel a lot. Too much. And recently I find myself rocking up in a city that I've never been to before and know very little about. On any level. Culture, language, transport, money, food, etc. But most travel shows are an hour-long, US-centric, full of bad information, and almost exclusively aimed at tourists. So I wanted to create something different. Something aimed at the frequent traveller, something portable and short-form. Something...useful.
In our pilot episode we get you in, out, and around the wonderful city of London, England. We tell you the best way to get from the airport into the city, the best way to get around, how much things cost, and why you should ALWAYS stand on the right.
In follow up episodes we'll be adding a food and drink segment, as well as tips on how to avoid those awkward social and business faux pas.

During the 1920s, cinematographer Claude Friese-Greene travelled across the UK with his new colour film camera. His trip ended in London, with some of his most stunning images, and these were recently revived and restored by the BFI, and shared across social media and video websites. Since February I have attempted to capture every one of his shots, standing in his footsteps, and using modern equivalents of his camera and lenses. This video is a time lapse of London shot in RAW footage to bring out the beautiful colours you find around London at day and at night. The film was produced by myself and I was lucky to have such a great team of people to work with. Joe Gallon provided all the shots and visual editing, he shot it on a Canon 5D Mark 2, as well as a Canon 550D and used a range of filters and lenses. Matt Fletcher composed the beautiful piano piece that flows with the pace of the footage and gives it momentum. Isla Day read the lovely poem Emma Bennallick and I wrote just for this project. Isla's innocent voice gives extreme contrast to how the poem usually reads and to how London is usually perceived, which creates a whole new way of looking at London. During the 1920s, cinematographer Claude Friese-Greene travelled across the UK with his new colour film camera. His trip ended in London, with some of his most stunning images, and these were recently revived and restored by the BFI, and shared across social media and video websites.
Since February I have attempted to capture every one of his shots, standing in his footsteps, and using modern equivalents of his camera and lenses. This has been a personal study, that has revealed how little London has changed.

This video is a time lapse of London shot in RAW footage to bring out the beautiful colours you find around London at day and at night. The film was produced by myself and I was lucky to have such a great team of people to work with.
Joe Gallon provided all the shots and visual editing, he shot it on a Canon 5D Mark 2, as well as a Canon 550D and used a range of filters and lenses.
Matt Fletcher composed the beautiful piano piece that flows with the pace of the footage and gives it momentum.
Isla Day read the lovely poem Emma Bennallick and I wrote just for this project. Isla's innocent voice gives extreme contrast to how the poem usually reads and to how London is usually perceived, which creates a whole new way of looking at London.
I did all the sound design and the final mix of this project. I wanted sound to be just loud enough to give the footage life, but not too loud that it took the emotion away from the music.
