Syarikat rangkaian penjual barangan penjagaan diri Watsons Malaysia (Watsons) hari ini menarik balik iklan raya yang mengundang pelbagai kecaman orang ramai.
Dalam kenyataan umumnya sebentar tadi, Watsons berkata klip video Legenda Cun itu sebenarnya mahu menonjolkan nilai moral berdasarkan kisah Dayang Senandong.
Klip video yang dipertikaikan itu juga didapati sudah dipadamlkan.
Dilaporkan iklan sempena kedatangan hari raya itu menjadi sasaran kecaman pelbagai pihak.
Antara lain ia didakwa memaparkan beberapa watak yang dianggap tidak sensitif, rasis serta mengelirukan.
Antara aspek yang menjadi rugutan orang ramai ialah watak gadis berkulit hitam legam serta jenaka yang memperbodohkan orang lain.
Iklan itu yang dihasilkan dengan kualiti penyiaran yang baik menampilkan sejumlah selebriti termasuk Ruhainies, Uqasha Senrose, Sasha Saidin, Amber Chia, Kamal Adli, Raja Ilya, Thanuja, Najua P Ramlee dan Bell Ngasri.
Isu utama yang dipertikaikan ialah bagaimana komersial berkenaan seakan-akan memberi takrif "cantik" dengan kulit putih dan sebaliknya hitam dianggap hodoh.
Menurut Watsons video yang dimuat naik pada 7 Jun itu memaparkan kisah diilhamkan daripada cerita legenda Dayang Senandong.
Menurut syarikat terbabit mereka berpegang teguh kepada keyakinan bahawa aspek perpaduan dan keadilan adalah aspek penting dalam negara dan mereka menghormati semua orang tanpa mengira bangsa.

Pharmacy chain Watsons Malaysia has pulled their Hari Raya ad campaign following an uproar by netizens over the ad
which featured the use of a model in blackface.
They said the video was shot to highlight a local Legend and its moral values of inner beauty and that true love exists.
They added that they were sorry that some of their fans felt offended by the video which was not their intention.

Watsons Personal Care Stores
Watsons Personal Care Stores, known simply as Watsons, is the largest health care and beauty care chain store in Asia. It is a member of the A.S. Watson Group, majority-owned by CK Hutchison Holdings. It operates over 700 stores in Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, Ukraine and Estonia.
History
Dr. Thomas Boswell Watson (1815–1860), from Scotland, was the first member of the Watson family to arrive in the Far East, where in 1845 he set up a private practice in Macau, on the south west coast of China. After selling his practice to a fellow doctor, he moved to Hong Kong in 1856 where he became part owner of the Hong Kong Dispensary, an offshoot of the Canton Dispensary which operated from 1828–1858. Known as the "Big Medicine Shop" (Chinese: 大藥房; Cantonese: Dai Yeuk Fong), the dispensary's main customers were soldiers and sailors. The dispensary was not known as A.S. Watson until 1870 although Alexander Skirving Watson took over in 1858 following management changes. T.B. Watson sent his family back to Scotland in 1857 and he himself followed two years later.

Dalam kenyataan umumnya sebentar tadi, Watsons berkata klip video Legenda Cun itu sebenarnya mahu menonjolkan nilai moral berdasarkan kisah Dayang Senandong.
Klip video yang dipertikaikan itu juga didapati sudah dipadamlkan.
Dilaporkan iklan sempena kedatangan hari raya itu menjadi sasaran kecaman pelbagai pihak.
Antara lain ia didakwa memaparkan beberapa watak yang dianggap tidak sensitif, rasis serta mengelirukan.
Antara aspek yang menjadi rugutan orang ramai ialah watak gadis berkulit hitam legam serta jenaka yang memperbodohkan orang lain.
