Rhône

The Rhône (/ˈroʊn/; French: Le Rhône [ʁon]; German: Rhone [ˈroːnə]; Walliser German: Rotten [ˈrotən]; Italian: Rodano [ˈrɔːdano]; Arpitan: Rôno [ˈʁono]; Occitan: Ròse [ˈrɔze]) is one of the major rivers of Europe, rising in Switzerland, passing through Lake Geneva and running through southeastern France. At Arles, near its mouth on the Mediterranean Sea, the river divides into two branches, known as the Great Rhône (French: Le Grand Rhône) and the Little Rhône (Le Petit Rhône). The resulting delta constitutes the Camargue region.

Name

The name Rhône continues the name Rhodanus (Greek Ῥοδανός Rhodanos) in Greco-Roman geography. The Gaulish name of the river was *Rodonos or *Rotonos (from a PIE root *ret- "to run, roll" frequently found in river names).

The Greco-Roman as well as the reconstructed Gaulish name is masculine, as is French le Rhône. This form survives in the Italian namesake, Rodano. German has adopted the French name but given it the feminine gender, die Rhone. The original German adoption of the Latin name was also masculine, der Rotten; it survives only in the Upper Valais (dialectal Rottu).

Founding

The company's name originates from the four founding Warner brothers (born Wonskolaser or Wonsal before Anglicization):Harry (born Hirsz), Albert (born Aaron), Sam (born Szmul), and Jack (Itzhak, or to some sources, Jacob). They emigrated as small children with their parents to Canada from Krasnosielc which was located in the part of Congress Poland that had been subjugated to the Russian Empire following the eighteenth-century Partitions of Poland near present-day Ostrołęka.

Zoic Studios is an American visual effects company based in Culver City, California. They specialize in visual effects for feature films, episodic television, commercials, video games, advertising design, and interactive online media. The name "Zoic" is derived from a Greek word meaning "life", and is meant to connote "evolution".

History

Zoic Studios is a visual effects company based in Culver City, California with a separate sister facility in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is a studio of creative artists, producers, and engineers.

Zoic Studios was founded by five partners in 2002 and began as a 15-person company working out of the Sunset Gower Studios lot. Their first project was creating visual effects for the action, western, science fiction television series Firefly.

In September 2002, they moved to Culver City, California, and the company has grown to house 150 employees.

In 2006, Zoic founded Zoic BC, in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Zoic has created visual effects for such TV shows including Firefly , Mad Men, Once Upon a Time, Falling Skies, True Blood, V, Fringe, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Battlestar Galactica and feature films which include District 9, Zombieland, Spider-Man 2, The Day After Tomorrow, Van Helsing, Fast & Furious, RED and Limitless.
