Margaret Brown (née Tobin) (July 18, 1867 – October 26, 1932) was an American socialite, philanthropist, and activist who became famous because of her survival of the 1912 sinking of the RMS Titanic, after exhorting the crew of Lifeboat No. 6 to return to look for survivors. It is unclear whether any survivors were found after Lifeboat No. 6 returned to search. She became known after her death as "The Unsinkable Molly Brown", although during her life, her friends called her "Maggie". A 1960 Broadway musical based on her life was produced, along with a 1964 film adaptation of the musical. Both were titled The Unsinkable Molly Brown.
Born Margaret Tobin in a three-bedroom cottage, near the Mississippi River in Hannibal, Missouri, on what is now known as Denkler's alley. Her parents were Irish Catholic immigrants John Tobin (1823–1899) and Johanna Tobin (1825–1905). Her siblings were Daniel Tobin (born 1863), Michael Tobin (born 1866), William Tobin (born 1869), and Helen Tobin (born 1871). Brown had two half-sisters: Catherine Bridget Tobin (born 1856), by her father's first marriage, and Mary Ann Collins (born 1857), by her mother's first marriage. Both her mother and father had been widowed young.
Brown is the color of dark wood or rich soil. Brown is a composite color; in printing or painting, brown is made by combining red, black and yellow, or red, yellow and blue. In the RGB color model used to make colors on television screens and computer monitors, brown is made by combining red and green, in specific proportions. The brown color is seen widely in nature, in wood, soil, and human hair color, eye color and skin pigmentation. In Europe and the United States, brown is the color most often associated with plainness, humility, the rustic, and poverty. Brown is also, according to public opinion surveys in Europe and the United States, the least favorite color of the public.

Margaret is a female first name, derived via French (Marguerite) and Latin (Margarita) from Greek Margarites, derived from the noun margaron meaning 'pearl'. The Greek is probably related to the Sanskrit मञ्जरी mañjarī meaning 'pearl' or 'cluster of blossoms.'
Margaret has been an English name since the 11th century, and remained popular throughout the Middle Ages. It became less popular between the 16th century and 18th century, but became more common again after this period, becoming the second most popular name in the United States in 1903. Since this time, it has become less common, but was still the ninth most common name for women of all ages in the United States as of the 1990 census.
Margaret has a large number of diminutive forms in many different languages.
Alternate forms of Margaret, including short forms and pet names, include:
Molly, Mollie or mollies may refer to:
RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in the early morning of 15 April 1912 after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, UK, to New York City, US. The sinking resulted in the deaths of more than 1,500 passengers and crew, making it one of the deadliest commercial peacetime maritime disasters in modern history. The RMS Titanic, the largest ship afloat at the time it entered service, was the second of three Olympic class ocean liners operated by the White Star Line, and was built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast with Thomas Andrews as her naval architect. Andrews was among those who died in the sinking. On her maiden voyage, she carried 2,224 passengers and crew.
Under the command of Edward Smith, the ship's passengers included some of the wealthiest people in the world, as well as hundreds of emigrants from Great Britain and Ireland, Scandinavia and elsewhere throughout Europe seeking a new life in North America. A high-power radiotelegraph transmitter was available for sending passenger "marconigrams" and for the ship's operational use. Although Titanic had advanced safety features such as watertight compartments and remotely activated watertight doors, there were not enough lifeboats to accommodate all of those aboard due to outdated maritime safety regulations. Titanic only carried enough lifeboats for 1,178 people—slightly more than half of the number on board, and one-third her total capacity.

Indefatigable, opinionated and, as we know her today, unsinkable -- Margaret Brown would turn out to be possibly the Titanic's most famous survivor. Just like now, the press at the turn of the 20th Century loved a story, and with the character of Titanic survivor Margaret 'Molly' Brown, they had one. But, also like the press today, Molly Brown's story contained one or two inaccuracies. Did anyone call her Molly? Did she marry into fabulous wealth or help create it? Were she and her husband so wealthy that they burned money? Even now Margaret 'Molly' Brown remains one of the most enduringly fascinating survivors from the Titanic disaster. Here, we find out all we thought we knew about the Unsinkable Molly Brown. For more information go to http://www.the-titanic.com/Gallery/Videos/Moll...

Winner 2009 | Folly River Inc., ITVS In Mobile, Alabama, traditions run deep, and its annual celebration of Mardi Gras is among its oldest. The carnival that begins the Lenten season there actually pre-dates the more famous party that takes place in New Orleans. In Mobile, the secret societies (one of them named The Order of Myths) that organize the parades and balls and elect kings and queens are woven into every element of the city. With interviews and video captured in all these events, this documentary explores race, gender, class, generation, style, neighborhood, menu and music selection to explain the range of values underlying the Mardi Gras revels. The most telling fact is that there are two royal courts, two major balls, two histories—one in the white community, the other in the...
