Anthony Sablan Apuron (born November 1, 1945) has been archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Agaña since 1986.
Apuron was born in November 1, 1945 in Tamuning, Guam, the eighth of ten children of Manuel Taijito Apuron and Ana Santos Sablan. He was educated at St. Anthony College in Hudson, New Hampshire, and at Capuchin Seminary in Garrison, New York. He then studied at Maryknoll Seminary in New York City and the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. He was ordained a priest in 1972.
Apuron was recently the target of criticism over a letter that was distributed by his archdiocese comparing gay rights activism to Islamic terrorism.
To date, Apuron has never retracted the statements which include the following: "Islamic fundamentalists clearly understand the damage that homosexual behavior inflicts on a culture. That is why they repress such behavior by death. Their culture is anything but one of self-absorption. It may be brutal at times, but any culture that is able to produce wave after wave of suicide bombers (women as well as men) is a culture that at least knows how to value self-sacrifice."
The name Anthony is derived from the Latin name Antonius. A variant of the given name is Antony.

Many of them have never been inside the Redemptoris Mater Seminary, but after hearing that Archbishop Anthony Apuron and former RMS rector Father Pius Sammut were hiding inside the Yona property, more than one dozen members of the Laity Forward Movement walked inside and asked to see Archbishop Apuron. The gates had signs stating "Private Property", but the protesters argued they’re paying for the property through church collections, and therefore have every right to be there. Many had never been to RMS and were amazed at how beautiful it was and the fact that it had a swimming pool. However, when they reached the lobby area, they were told that the property was a private residence and were instructed to leave.
