Finkel question hangs over PM's leadership
Malcolm Turnbull knows the stakes. Tony Abbott too. The latter has already replaced the former once as the Liberal Party convulsed over its problematic embrace of climate policy. Now, some eight years later, the same actors are again engaged in a fatal dance, but this time, in office. Turnbull is in a stronger position relative to a weakened and discredited Abbott, whose recent antics have won him few party room friends. But have no illusions, the pro-coal anti-green feelings in conservative circles run deep. This is a must-win for Turnbull. Any climate policy backlash in the party room would be viewed as a win by Abbott.
