Stuart Orlando Scott (July 19, 1965 – January 4, 2015) was an American sportscaster and anchor on ESPN, most notably on SportsCenter. Well-known for his hip-hop style and use of catchphrases, Scott was also a regular for the network in its National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Football League (NFL) coverage.
Scott grew up in North Carolina, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He began his career with various local television stations before joining ESPN in 1993. Although there were already accomplished African-American sportscasters, his blending of hip hop with sportscasting was unique for television. By 2008, he was a staple in ESPN's programming, and also began on ABC as lead host for their coverage of the NBA.
In 2007, Scott had an appendectomy and learned that his appendix was cancerous. After going into remission, he was again diagnosed with cancer in 2011 and 2013. Scott was honored at the ESPY Awards in 2014 with the Jimmy V Award for his fight against cancer, less than six months before his death in 2015 at the age of 49.

The Sports Emmy Awards are presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in recognition of excellence in American sports television programming, including sports-related series, live coverage of sporting events, and best sports announcers. The awards ceremony, presenting Emmys from the previous calendar year, is usually held on a Spring Monday night, sometime in the last two weeks in April or the first week in May. The Sports Emmy Awards are all given away at one ceremony, unlike the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Daytime Emmy Awards, which hold a "Creative Arts" ceremony in which Emmys are given to behind-the-scenes personnel.
The first Emmy for "Best Sports Coverage" was handed out at the second annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony in 1950, where KTLA, a local television station in Los Angeles, won the award for coverage of wrestling. The following year, another Los Angeles-based station, KNBH, won an Emmy for their coverage of the Los Angeles Rams American football team. At the seventh Primetime Emmys in 1955, NBC became the first major network to win a Sports Emmy Award for its series, the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports.

Stuart's emotional and highly courageous acceptance speech brought the ESPY audience to its feet by speaking with eloquent candor about his life struggle with battling cancer. Stuart shared the motto he's used to fuel his fight for his life: "The most poignant seven words ever -- "don't give up, don't ever give up!" It’s a philosophy that anyone and everyone should use — we all have struggles in our lives. But for cancer victims, Stuart had very specific inspiration: “Even if you die, that does not mean that you lose to cancer.” Stuart's wise words include “You beat cancer by how you live, while you live, and in the m...

The final appearance and speech of the late Stuart Scott at the 2014 ESPY Awards was eerily prophetic as he delivered an amended his view on battling cancer. Stuart Scott laid down and rested today January 4, 2014. He did not lose, but beat cancer by how he lived, why he lived and the way in which he lived.
Stuart Scott left this world far too early for many of us, we loved what he meant on and off the screen for young journalist of many creeds. Our very own Alex Hudgens considered him one of her biggest mentors, and this, her last interview with the legend before is untimely death. VIDEO: STUART SCOTT AND KAWHI LEONARD HAVE FANTASTIC INTERVIEW EXCHANGE Kawhi Leonard has been a breakout performer during Games 3 and 4 of the NBA Finals to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 3-1 series lead over the Miami Heat. Leonard scored a career high 29 points in Game 3 and followed it up with 20 and 14 in Game 4. In his third season, the forward from San Diego State is a known quantity among those who follow the league, but may be unknown to a national audience. That's what led to this amazing interview exchange between Leonard and ESPN's Stuart Scott. Frost/Nixon it is not, but it's clear Gregg Popovich is teaching his troops the art of the interview very well:

Sports anchor Stuart Scott’s legacy is still going strong through his daughters Taelor (20) and Sydni Scott (16), who continue to honor the sports media icon. Taelor and Sydni Scott and Dear World collaborated on a video love letter about their father to mark the one year anniversary of his passing on January 4, 2015. The Scotts became friends Dear World’s founder Robert X. Fogarty after he photographed Stuart Scott for Dear World in its signature message on skin portrait style. The portrait eventually became the cover image for Every Day I Fight, Scott’s memoir. In the distinctive Dear World portrait style where each person shares a message on their skin, now Taelor and Sydni have created a tribute to their father. Their latest tribute, “Dear Stuart Scott”, will be released at 6 A...
