Prague
Prague (/ˈprɑːɡ/; Czech: Praha, [ˈpraɦa], German: Prag) is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. It is the 14th largest city in the European Union. It is also the historical capital of Bohemia Situated in the north-west of the country on the Vltava River, the city is home to about 1.24 million people, while its larger urban zone is estimated to have a population of nearly 2 million. The city has a temperate climate, with warm summers and chilly winters. Prague has the lowest unemployment rate in the European Union.
Prague has been a political, cultural, and economic centre of central Europe with waxing and waning fortunes during its 1,100-year existence. Founded during the Romanesque and flourishing by the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque eras, Prague was not only the capital of the Czech state, but also the seat of two Holy Roman Emperors and thus also the capital of the Holy Roman Empire. It was an important city to the Habsburg Monarchy and its Austro-Hungarian Empire and after World War I became the capital of Czechoslovakia. The city played major roles in the Bohemian and Protestant Reformation, the Thirty Years' War, and in 20th-century history, during both World Wars and the post-war Communist era.

Dreaming of Midsummer
Midsummer has always been a big affair in Sweden and this year was big. Having missed a flight and a train to Falun, I was tired and hungry. Yet the familiar smell and sight of my mom-in-law, her home, my favourite pie of Broccoli and potatoes warm on the table, rejuvenated me completely. I ate up three quarters while Lisbeth talked on. She said they predict rain and thunderstorm for the Midsummer. Between the big mouthfuls, I murmured, they can be wrong sometimes and Lisbeth concurred. "I love to watch TV -- who doesn't? But what I wanted to learn was how to make the programmes I loved so much. So I joined the TV Production Course at Stockport College, and it led me into a world in which I thrived - and was passionate about. My task was to create a short documentary style film for an internet travel site and it had to feature something about the chosen city that you wouldn't find in a tourist travel guide. The city I was visiting was Prague, and finding a suitable subject was the hardest part of the pre-production. However, what started out as five unfeasible ideas became one great idea; after hundreds of emails to different contacts I made contact with local presenter Alice Ticha (through Facebook!) who was kind enough to help me make this idea a reality. Wander down the twisting cobblestone streets – you’re sure to find something new and exciting. After all, even locals get lost here.
Prague tourism usually involves the Royal Route, a historic coronation path that will take you through Old Town. Walk a few blocks to Old Town Square and sample local street fare in the shadow of old castles and palaces. Old Town itself is full of cafes, restaurants, and galleries, and will provide days of exploration for intrepid visitors.
Cross over the Charles Bridge and climb up to Prague Castle, a network of palaces, churches, and numerous museums. Be careful, as folks were a lot shorter back then – you may have to duck your head as you walk through the low-ceilinged, artifact-filled halls.
Your Prague sightseeing must pause at St. Vitus Cathedral, a massive gothic structure dating back 600 years. You’ll have to arch your back to see over 300 feet to the ceilings, which seem to vanish into the heavens. By the time you’re back outside, it will likely be twilight. You’ll see pigs roasting on spits and people gathered under the statue of St. Wenceslas to share their daily adventures. The people here are friendly, so why not join them and chime in with your own stories?

We're here now in Novy Svet - a cool little neighborhood right behind the castle. Here we are at the Kafka Museum. This museum is dedicated to him and his work and you'll find some of his letters, diary entries and photographs inside. Stroll along the John Lennon Wall and you'll encounter portraits of Lennon and Yoko Ono. Have a look. Up next we have a big plate of Goulash. Saint Vitus is a Gothic cathedral located within the walls of Prague Castle. Inside you'll be able to admire beautiful stained glass windows designed in the art nouveau style. Inside the KGB Museum you'll find old propaganda as well as some unusual pieces like a copy of Lenin's death mask. The Golden Lane gets its name because legend has it that Emperor Rudolph was a fan of alchemy. Charles Bridge is one of the most popular landmarks in the city. When in Prague you can check out the Astronomical Clock. You can't come to Prague and not sample the street food. One particularly popular item is the Trdlenik. Petrin Tower stands 63 meters high on a hill overlooking Prague. It slightly resembles the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Vyšehrad is a historical fort located in the city of Prague. In my hand here I've got myself a Pilsner beer and this is like a Czech institution. The Jeleni Prikop Park located right behind Prague Castle is a great place for a picnic or a little nap on the grass. Even though the National Museum is currently closed you can still attend musical performances in the evening. Another cool thing you can do is visit the Miniature Museum where you can see microscopic art. The Mucha Museum pays homage to Alphonse Mucha, and it's a must visit if you enjoy art nouveau. And that sums up our visit to Prague!

The Central European city of Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic and is one of the world's great architectural jewels.
Like a city from a children's story book the city conjures up images of romantic fairy stories and dark gothic folk tales.
The city is a cobblestone labyrinth where even locals get happily lost. An easy way to discover Prague is to follow the Royal Route, which starts at the Powder Tower and ends at Prague Castle.
Along the way, stop at Old Town Square, a plaza surrounded by former palaces. Highlights here include the Astronomical Clock and Tyn Church. Explore the Old Town to discover sidewalk cafes, galleries and the ancient Jewish Quarter.
Pass beneath the Bridge Tower, cross the beautiful Charles Bridge, then climb the hill to Prague Castle. Rising above the castle are the 600 year-old gothic spires of St Vitus Cathedral.
Nearby, visit the tiny houses of Golden Lane, once the homes of castle guards, and later, the city's goldsmiths.
At night, locals and travelers meet under the statue of St Wencesias, to begin even more adventures in this most magical of cities.

Midsummer has always been a big affair in Sweden and this year was big.
Having missed a flight and a train to Falun, I was tired and hungry. Yet the familiar smell and sight of my mom-in-law, her home, my favourite pie of Broccoli and potatoes warm on the table, rejuvenated me completely. I ate up three quarters while Lisbeth talked on. She said they predict rain and thunderstorm for the Midsummer.
Between the big mouthfuls, I murmured, they can be wrong sometimes and Lisbeth concurred. And true, much to the delight of millions of Swedes, the sun shone strong on the Midsummer eve celebrations and also few days afterwards.
As I gathered with many others to celebrate the biggest Swedish festival, it struck me that as we become more modern, people long for tradition. I have never seen so many in traditional wear nor join in to sing and dance with great gusto.
Krakow. A city with so much history and culture and yet so modern. There is definitely no lack of restaurants and cafes. ‘Yes, ofcourse’ is what most Poles said to us. Ever ready to serve with a friendly smile, we relaxed, got entertained, ate good and rediscovered history.
After NYC, Prague is the second city where I walked around with my mouth open. Awe-struck by its architecture, alleyways, gardens and what not. And very multicultural. Ofcourse go a zone further and you meet only czechs who speak only czech. The best coffee and apple strudel we had was in one such place.
Then Joli and I parted ways. I wanted to trek in the High Tatras which is more grandiose on the slovak side. Arrived in Bratislava, the capital and rightly Europe’s biggest village.
There is the little touristy bit to do. Slovakia is going the Greek way, Ivan the local professor told me in french who lived in Montreal at one point.
Off to Poprad, my base for the hikes. The locals were amazed to meet me, an Indo-Swedish Canadian, single woman. 4 incidents stand out in my memory.

The sights though seeing for the first time felt like from the past. So I fell in love, head over heals with this twin city, its natural and man-made beauty, its people, food, dance and its simple ways of life.
Buda and Pest (pronounced Pesht), divided by Danube river are different. Buda, on a hill is greener, richer, residential. Pest is on a plain, middle class and workplace, though it is where the downtown is.
I sat one day at a busy square and watched life unfold. As Hungarians bustled about, I understood one thing. It is good to uphold the past, because they give you strength for the present and guide you into the future.

Midsummer has always been a big affair in Sweden and this year was big.
Having missed a flight and a train to Falun, I was tired and hungry. Yet the familiar smell and sight of my mom-in-law, her home, my favourite pie of Broccoli and potatoes warm on the table, rejuvenated me completely. I ate up three quarters while Lisbeth talked on. She said they predict rain and thunderstorm for the Midsummer.
Between the big mouthfuls, I murmured, they can be wrong sometimes and Lisbeth concurred. And true, much to the delight of millions of Swedes, the sun shone strong on the Midsummer eve celebrations and also few days afterwards.
As I gathered with many others to celebrate the biggest Swedish festival, it struck me that as we become more modern, people long for tradition. I have never seen so many in traditional wear nor join in to sing and dance with great gusto.
Krakow. A city with so much history and culture and yet so modern. There is definitely no lack of restaurants and cafes. ‘Yes, ofcourse’ is what most Poles said to us. Ever ready to serve with a friendly smile, we relaxed, got entertained, ate good and rediscovered history.
After NYC, Prague is the second city where I walked around with my mouth open. Awe-struck by its architecture, alleyways, gardens and what not. And very multicultural. Ofcourse go a zone further and you meet only czechs who speak only czech. The best coffee and apple strudel we had was in one such place.
Then Joli and I parted ways. I wanted to trek in the High Tatras which is more grandiose on the slovak side. Arrived in Bratislava, the capital and rightly Europe’s biggest village.
There is the little touristy bit to do. Slovakia is going the Greek way, Ivan the local professor told me in french who lived in Montreal at one point.
Off to Poprad, my base for the hikes. The locals were amazed to meet me, an Indo-Swedish Canadian, single woman. 4 incidents stand out in my memory.

"I love to watch TV -- who doesn't? But what I wanted to learn was how to make the programmes I loved so much. So I joined the TV Production Course at Stockport College, and it led me into a world in which I thrived - and was passionate about.
My task was to create a short documentary style film for an internet travel site and it had to feature something about the chosen city that you wouldn't find in a tourist travel guide. The city I was visiting was Prague, and finding a suitable subject was the hardest part of the pre-production.
However, what started out as five unfeasible ideas became one great idea; after hundreds of emails to different contacts I made contact with local presenter Alice Ticha (through Facebook!) who was kind enough to help me make this idea a reality.
"Memoirs of a Communist Nightmare" is just one of the many brilliant projects I took part in during my time at College; I wrote, developed, organised, filmed (on a mobile phone!), directed and edited this film and I am so proud of what I have created. I've already started work at bellyFlopTV; eventually, I'd like to Direct/Produce live multi-camera outside broadcasts."

第四段：出征
在这一段里，引子、号角、人民痛苦和复仇主题都一一再现，雷鸣般的大鼓和战鼓咚咚，好像阵列森严，旌旗蔽天、元帅升帐的壮观场景，抗敌大军在进行式高奏的穆桂英主题中，浩浩荡荡开赴战场。

《乐曲介绍》根据传统戏曲《穆桂英挂帅》的故事，以京剧音乐为基本材料写成。乐曲内容描写古代女英雄穆桂英奋勇挂帅抗敌，保家卫国的历史故事。全曲共分四段。
第一段：引子——天波府忆往事
描写老年的穆桂英对往年战斗生涯的回忆。乐曲开始8小节的引子，气势雄伟，好像一座历史的丰碑，用京剧曲牌"点绛唇"变化写成，接着是三支小号模仿唢呐"水龙吟"曲牌的吹奏，制造一种武戏开场、铁马金戈的气氛。然后京剧锣鼓低沉的导板头引出由小提琴演奏的西皮导板唱腔的音调，表现穆桂英复杂、激动的心境，导板结束后正式进入穆桂英主题，反复一次升到高点，经过一个连接句归于沉寂，从远处传来隐约的小号和定音鼓节奏的战斗动机，经拨弦的扩大，战斗回忆逐渐清晰起来，猛然间，刀枪的碰击，残酷的厮杀展现了，在激战中乐队推向高潮，穆桂英主题在高潮上以胜利的姿态出现，好像当年大破天门，威风凛凛的形象。此后，音乐在一支长笛和一支单簧管弱奏，像洞箫般的幽咽声里回到现实，最后在第一小提琴孤独的吟咏中结束。
第二段：辽兵入寇
突然的强和弦后，京剧锣鼓"疾疾风"敲响了军情十万火急，辽兵的主题素材采自黑头唱腔，在急促的弦乐背景上，骄横的铜管，表现铁蹄纵横，烧杀劫掠的残暴形象，音乐在极度紧张中骤然截止，留下颤抖的低音和零落的竖琴点滴声，犹如山河破碎，一片凄凉景象。加弱音器的弦乐用颤音奏出人民痛苦的主题，几经反复，转入以高拨子为素材的一段紧拉慢唱式的音乐，表现人民带着仇恨，从血泊中奋起。
第三段：挂帅
宣叙式的插段，用主题动机和导板音调交织写成。节奏较自由，描写穆桂英内心矛盾，一面是连年交兵、亲人战死和对皇帝不公正的怨愤，另一面是大敌当前、国危民困，经过激烈的内心冲突，终于以大义为重，捐弃前嫌，毅然决心挺身而起，统兵抗敌。西皮流水的一段，描写她从犹豫走向坚定的心情，在全乐队休止、全场静寂中，两声清脆的板鼓独奏，穆桂英作出了自己的抉择。这段音乐的立意，是根据豫剧唱腔中的名句"我不挂帅谁挂帅，我不领兵谁领兵？"写成，也是全曲的主导思想。
第四段：出征
在这一段里，引子、号角、人民痛苦和复仇主题都一一再现，雷鸣般的大鼓和战鼓咚咚，好像阵列森严，旌旗蔽天、元帅升帐的壮观场景，抗敌大军在进行式高奏的穆桂英主题中，浩浩荡荡开赴战场。
