MS-DOS (/ˌɛmɛsˈdɒs/ EM-es-DOSS; acronym for Microsoft Disk Operating System) is an operating system for x86-based personal computers mostly developed by Microsoft. It was the most commonly used member of the DOS family of operating systems, and was the main operating system for IBM PC compatible personal computers during the 1980s to the mid-1990s, when it was gradually superseded by operating systems offering a graphical user interface (GUI), in various generations of the graphical Microsoft Windows operating system by Microsoft Corporation.
MS-DOS resulted from a request in 1981 by IBM for an operating system to use in its IBM PC range of personal computers. Microsoft quickly bought the rights to 86-DOS from Seattle Computer Products, and began work on modifying it to meet IBM's specification. IBM licensed and released it in August 1981 as PC DOS 1.0 for use in their PCs. Although MS-DOS and PC DOS were initially developed in parallel by Microsoft and IBM, in subsequent years the two products diverged and became different from each other, with recognizable differences in compatibility, syntax, and capabilities.
DOS /dɒs/, short for disk operating system, is an acronym for several computer operating systems that were operated by using the command line.
MS-DOS dominated the IBM PC compatible market between 1981 and 1995, or until about 2000 including the partially MS-DOS-based Microsoft Windows (95, 98, and Millennium Edition). "DOS" is used to describe the family of several very similar command-line systems, including MS-DOS, PC DOS, DR-DOS, FreeDOS, ROM-DOS, and PTS-DOS.
In spite of the common usage, none of these systems were simply named "DOS" (a name given only to an unrelated IBM mainframe operating system in the 1960s). A number of unrelated, non-x86 microcomputer disk operating systems had "DOS" in their names, and are often referred to simply as "DOS" when discussing machines that use them (e.g. AmigaDOS, AMSDOS, ANDOS, Apple DOS, Atari DOS, Commodore DOS, CSI-DOS, ProDOS, and TRSDOS). While providing many of the same operating system functions for their respective computer systems, programs running under any one of these operating systems would not run under others.

http://priyaranjancomputertutorial.weebly.com/ The term DOS can refer to any operating system, but it is most often used as a shorthand for MS-DOS (Microsoft disk operating system). Originally developed by Microsoft for IBM, MS-DOS was the standard operating system for IBM-compatible personal computers.
Found this in the back room of my old job. It was titled "YO MS Raps!" MS-DOS 5.0 was the first version available in a retail package. Looks like MS spent a few $$$ to produce the effects in this video to promote it. High Quality Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxC6PytZMqc

Cam unboxes a rather peculiar package sent from Microsoft. Inside: A 3.5-inch floppy disk, disk drive and notepad. Download MS DOS preview on to your Windows Phone: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/ms-dos-mobile/8573c4a8-b9df-4409-90a6-dad2dc0b6b26 Although it's an April Fool's day gag, the MS-DOS Mobile preview actually works. Typing commands like "camera", "SMS" or even "internet explorer" do exactly what you expect they should. And you can be sure that - just like in the olden days - if you type something that's not recognized, you'll get the "bad command or file name" message. Let's face it, it wouldn't be MS-DOS without it. Follow Cam on: Twitter: http://twitter.com/PhoneDog_Cam Instagram: http://instagram.com/cambunton Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CamBunton/post...
Despite the name "QuickStudy Videos: MS-DOS Intermediate", this tutorial drags on for nearly two hours, and spends most of its time covering only the most basic DOS commands. It has a copyright date of 1995, but appears to have been recorded in 1993, and features MS-DOS 6.0. It was likely produced on a Commodore Amiga, since you can hear the sound of an Amiga mouse being clicked during some of the transitions. Transferred from a VHS tape, which claims to be "VideoLock™ copy protected", but shows no signs of having any copy protection encoding (nor does the U.S. Trademark Office have any record of any such named copy protection scheme). Its hi-fi audio track was so noisy that I had to revert to the linear audio track, and used a BSR DAK-1 noise reduction unit to clean up the hiss. And the ...

The next generation features of concrete5 makes Drupal, Joomla or even Wordpress feel like the MS-Dos days when it comes to content management systems.
This is a small video of Digger (great game!) running under MS-DOS on a bridgeboard. Bridgeboards are expansion cards connected to the Amigas, which provide a real x86 processor, and with the proper software setup can run at the same time as AmigaOS. Models included 8088/8086 up to 80486 with various combinations of RAM. Those cards could also enable access to the otherwise inactive ISA slots on Amigas. In turn, AmigaOS and MSDOS could utilize ISA Ethernet cards, VGA cards etc.

My dearest Miss Patsy, I?m writing to say
That I?m sorry to not be in touch
It?s been quite a parade, but my thoughts never strayed
Too far, or too long, or too much
Miss Patsy, forgive all the choices I made
I?ve been fighting shadows on the wrong crusade
Looking for ghosts in a penny arcade
Miss Patsy, no more will I roam
Miss Patsy, won?t you carry me home?
They held me to ransom back there in the foothills
And nobody stumped up a bean
Not Swifty, nor Eddie, came up with the ready
It can make you think people plain mean
I?ve been hanging out with some virtuous people
They emptied my bank account twice
They gave me self-confidence, even some clothes
And a truckload of love and advice
When they gave out the cyanide pills with a wink
And said, "Wait for the word, any day now, we think"
I knew it was time to pull back from the brink
Miss Patsy, no more will I roam
Miss Patsy, won?t you carry me home?
Miss Patsy, I looked at myself in the mirror
Decided I needed some work
Got me a nose job, a shave and a haircut
To drive all them ladies berserk
But the arm 'round my waist was a man in dark blue
He said, "Ain?t you him? We?ve been looking for you"
Now I?m sharing a cell with a holy kung fu
Miss Patsy, no more will I roam
