Silla (57 BC – 935 AD) (Korean pronunciation: [ɕʰilːa]) was one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, and one of the world's longest sustained dynasties. Although it was founded by King Park Hyeokgeose, the dynasty was ruled by the Gyeongju Kim (김, 金) clan for most of its 992-year history. It began as a chiefdom in the Samhan confederacies, once allied with China, but Silla eventually conquered the other two kingdoms, Baekje in 660 and Goguryeo in 668. Thereafter, Unified Silla or Later Silla, as it is often referred to, occupied most of the Korean Peninsula, while the northern part re-emerged as Balhae, a successor-state of Goguryeo. After nearly 1000 years of rule, Silla fragmented into the brief Later Three Kingdoms, Silla, Hubaekje, and Taebong, handing over power to its successor dynasty Goryeo in 935.
From its founding until its growth into a full-fledged kingdom, Silla was recorded with various hanja phonetically approximating its native Korean name: 斯盧 (사로, Saro), 斯羅 (사라, Sara), 徐那(伐) (서나[벌], Seona[beol]), 徐耶(伐) (서야[벌], Seoya[beol]), 徐羅(伐) (서라[벌], Seora[beol]), and 徐伐 (서벌, Seobeol). In 503, King Jijeung standardized on the characters 新羅(신라), which in Modern Korean is pronounced "Shilla".

La Silla Observatory is an astronomical observatory in Chile with three telescopes built and operated by the European Southern Observatory (ESO). Several telescopes are located at the site and are partly maintained by ESO. The observatory is one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere and was the first in Chile to be used by ESO.
The La Silla telescopes and instruments are located 150 km northeast of La Serena at the outskirts of the Chilean Atacama Desert, one of the driest and remotest areas of the world. Like other observatories in this geographical area, La Silla is located far from sources of light pollution and, like the Paranal Observatory, home to the Very Large Telescope, it has one of the darkest night skies on the Earth.
Following the decision in 1963 to approve Chile as the site for the ESO observatory, scouting parties were sent to various locations to assess their suitability. The site that was decided upon was La Silla in the southern part of the Atacama desert, 600 km north of Santiago de Chile and at an altitude of 2400 metres. Besides being government property, it had the added benefits of being in a dry, flat and easily accessible area, yet isolated and remote from any artificial light and dust sources. Originally named the Cinchado, it was renamed La Silla (the saddle in Spanish) after its saddle-like shape. On October 30, 1964, the contracts were signed and an area of 245 square miles was purchased the following year. During 1965, temporary facilities were erected with living quarters, a workshop and storage area. The dedication ceremony of the road to the top took place in March 1966, two months after its completion.
An episode is a coherent narrative unit within a larger dramatic work such as a film or television series. An episode is to a sequence as a chapter is to a book. Most are from 20 to 40 minutes in length.
The word derives from the ancient Greek ἐπεισόδιον (epeisodion), meaning the material contained between two songs or odes in a Greek tragedy.
The year 57BC marks the beginning of the Silla Dynasty. Together with the Goguryeo and Baekje, Silla was the third of the Three States Era, controlling the southeastern region of the Korean peninsula for 1000 years. Silla fostered dramatic development in the sciences, mathematics, culture and religion. You can watch the main relics of Silla through this video. An ancient skeleton with an unusually long and narrow skull has been discovered in Korea. The skeleton of a woman was discovered in a traditional wooden coffin in Gyeongju, the capital of the Silla Kingdom – which rose to prominence and ruled between 57 BC and 660 AD. The skeleton had been well preserved and scientists were able to date the remains to the 6th century. She would have been around 155cm in height and died in her late 30s. After reconstructing her skull, however, the team noticed it was morphologically different to other demographic groups of the era. Specifically, her skull was longer and narrower than other skulls dating to this period.
In conjunction with the exhibition "Silla: Korea's Golden Kingdom," this Sunday at the Met program explores what gold objects can reveal about the Korean kingdom of Silla through presentations and a live demonstration of sophisticated gold-working techniques. http://www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/listings/2013/koreas-golden-kingdom/ © 2013 The Metropolitan Museum of Art Recorded November 17, 2013
Namsan Mountain is an aggregate storage of traditional legends and cultural heritages that date back to the Silla Period. The area is famous for its beautiful landscape, and in particular, Seochulji Pond (Historic Site No. 138), which is located at the foot of the mountain, is a renowned scenic site as it is connected to a legend about King Soji of the Silla. In 488, a mouse came to the king and told him to follow a crow. The king ordered one of his courtiers to follow the crow, and the courtier came across an old man who appeared out of the pond and gave him a letter. The courtier gave the letter to the king after returning to the palace. The king followed what the letter said and shot an arrow at a zither case that was located in the palace. As it turned out, a monk and the king's concub...
신라 여인 얼굴 첫 복원..."뒷머리 돌출, 이마 좁아" Korean researchers have recreated the face of a woman from the Silla Dynasty using advanced technology. The digital reconstruction provides a window into the past... and a glimpse of how people looked a time long ago. Park Se-young has the details. These little pieces of bone form the shape of a skull. With a little technological magic, it turns into the face of a woman from the Silla Dynasty, 15-hundred years ago. "From the length of her thigh bone, we think she was about 155 centimeters tall and in her late thirties or early forties." It took the local researchers a year and a half and lots of digital technology to recreate the woman's face. First, they took CT scans of the bone fragments and created a virtual skull using 3D modeling techniques. Then, ...

Goryeo Kingdom --------------------------- Goryeo, Koryŏ, or Cauli (918–1392), was a Korean dynasty established in 918 by King Taejo. This kingdom later gave name to the modern exonym "Korea". It united the Later Three Kingdoms in 936 and ruled most of the Korean peninsula until it was removed by the leader of the Joseon dynasty in 1392. The Goryeo dynasty expanded its borders to present-day Wonsan in the north-east (936–943) and the Amnok River (993) and finally almost the whole of the Korean peninsula (1374). Two of this period's most notable products are Goryeo celadon pottery and the Tripitaka Koreana—the Buddhist scriptures (Tripitaka) carved onto roughly 80,000 woodblocks and stored, and still in, Haeinsa. Subjects and officials of the Goryeo dynasty also created the world's first...

ASMR | The History Of Ancient Korea Part 1 | Prehistoric Korea - Unified Silla Kingdom | Ear to Ear Korea, located on a large peninsula on the eastern coast of the Asian mainland, has been inhabited since Neolithic times. Silla, with significant Chinese aid, would eventually conquer all of the other Korean states and form the Unified Silla Kingdom which ruled until 935 CE.
