'The Real Dr Evil' explores the rise of Kim Jong-il after his father, Kim II- sung's, death. His father, who is referred to as 'Great Leader' by North Korea, was a highly praised and well-respected leader -the founder of North Korea and commander of the fifth largest standing army in the world.
Following the death of Kim II-sung, Kim Jong- il was left to fulfil the position of his father, however many doubted he had the right skills to follow in his footsteps. He was seen as a black sheep as rarely taken seriously. Everyone felt that Kim Jong- il would struggle to keep up to his father's standards. Were they right?
'The Real Dr Evil' follows the fascinating journey of Kim Jong- il -- from his childhood experiences, through his education, to his controversial leadership. When the great economic collapse of the mid-90s struck, Jong-il left many of his citizens to suffer. But as many began to lose hope, Jung-il began approaching many western countries for help. Many perceived this distress signal positively, others did not.

North and South Korea are, both legally and philosophically, in a state of war. While the guns may be silent, the conflict between the two countries has now become one of propaganda.
With the assistance of the Human Rights Foundation, North Korean defectors now in South Korea have been launching hydrogen-filled balloons across the 38th parallel — carrying both money and propaganda. In late 2014, a balloon launch sparked a brief exchange of gunfire between North and South Korean soldiers, and even more recently, Pyongyang has promised that hellfire will rain on South Korea if any copies of the controversial Hollywood comedy The Interview make it across the border.
VICE News traveled to Seoul to meet frontline soldiers in this information war — and to attend a clandestine launch of propaganda balloons into the Hermit Kingdom.
In this extra scene, VICE News correspondent Michael Moynihan speaks with a former lieutenant of the North Korean People’s Army about a failed assassination attempt on Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il.

Kim Jong-il
Kim Jong-il (Korean pronunciation: [ɡ̊imd͜zɔŋil]; 16 February 1941/1942 – 17 December 2011) was the supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), commonly referred to as North Korea, from 1994 to 2011. By the early 1980s Kim had become the heir apparent for the leadership of the country and assumed important posts in the party and army organs. He succeeded his father and founder of the DPRK, Kim Il-sung, following the elder Kim's death in 1994. Kim Jong-il was the General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), Chairman of the National Defence Commission (NDC) of North Korea, and the Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army (KPA), the fourth-largest standing army in the world. Kim's leadership is thought to have been even more dictatorial than his father's.
During Kim's regime the country suffered from famine, partially due to economic mismanagement, and had a poor human rights record. Kim involved his country in state terrorism and strengthened the role of the military by his Songun, or "military-first", politics. Kim's rule also saw tentative economic reforms, including the opening of the Kaesong Industrial Park in 2003.

listen), officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK; Chosŏn'gŭl: 조선민주주의인민공화국; hancha: 朝鮮民主主義人民共和國; MR: Chosŏn Minjujuŭi Inmin Konghwaguk), is a country in East Asia, in the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. The name Korea is derived from the Kingdom of Goguryeo, also spelled as Koryŏ. The capital and largest city is Pyongyang. North Korea shares a land border with China to the north and northwest, along the Amnok (Yalu) and Tumen rivers, and a small section of the Tumen River also forms a border with Russia to the northeast. The Korean Demilitarized Zone marks the boundary between North Korea and South Korea.
Korea was annexed by the Empire of Japan in 1910. After the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II in 1945, Korea was divided into two zones by the United States and the Soviet Union, with the north occupied by the Soviets and the south by the Americans. Negotiations on reunification failed, and in 1948 two separate governments were formed: the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the north, and the Republic of Korea in the south. An invasion initiated by North Korea led to the Korean War (1950–53). Although the Korean Armistice Agreement brought about a ceasefire, no official peace treaty was ever signed. Both states were accepted into the United Nations in 1991.

Kim Jong-un
Kim Jong-un (Korean pronunciation: [kimd͜zɔŋɯn]; born 8 January 1983; also romanized as Kim Jong-eun, Kim Jong Un or Kim Jung-eun) is the supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), commonly referred to as North Korea. He is the son of Kim Jong-il (1941–2011) and the grandson of Kim Il-sung (1912–1994). He was officially declared the supreme leader following the state funeral of his father on 28 December 2011 and holds the titles of First Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, Chairman of the Central Military Commission, Chairman of the National Defence Commission, Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army and presidium member of the Politburo of the Workers' Party of Korea. He is the third and youngest son of Kim Jong-il and his consort Ko Yong-hui.
From late 2010, Kim Jong-un was viewed as heir apparent to the leadership of the nation, and following his father's death, he was announced as the "Great Successor" by North Korean state television. At Kim Jong-il's memorial service, Chairman of the Supreme People's Assembly Kim Yong-nam declared that "Respected Comrade Kim Jong-un is our party, military and country's supreme leader who inherits great comrade Kim Jong-il's ideology, leadership, character, virtues, grit and courage". On 30 December 2011, the Politburo of the Workers' Party of Korea formally appointed Kim as the Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army. In April 2012, the 4th Party Conference elected him to the newly created post of First Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The Real refers to that which is authentic, the unchangeable truth in reference both to being/the Self and the external dimension of experience, also referred to as the infinite and absolute—as opposed to a reality based on sense perception and the material order.

For Jacques Lacan, the order of the real is not only opposed to the imaginary but is also located beyond the symbolic. Unlike the symbolic, which is constituted in terms of oppositions such as "presence" and "absence", there is no absence in the real. The symbolic opposition between "presence" and "absence" implies the possibility that something may be missing from the symbolic, the real is "always in its place: it carries it glued to its heel, ignorant of what might exile it from there." If the symbolic is a set of differentiated signifiers, the real is in itself undifferentiated: "it is without fissure." The symbolic introduces "a cut in the real," in the process of signification: "it is the world of words that creates the world of things." Thus the real emerges as that which is outside language: "it is that which resists symbolization absolutely." The real is impossible because it is impossible to imagine, impossible to integrate into the symbolic order. This character of impossibility and resistance to symbolization lends the real its traumatic quality.

'The Real Dr Evil' explores the rise of Kim Jong-il after his father, Kim II- sung's, death. His father, who is referred to as 'Great Leader' by North Korea, was a highly praised and well-respected leader -the founder of North Korea and commander of the fifth largest standing army in the world.
Following the death of Kim II-sung, Kim Jong- il was left to fulfil the position of his father, however many doubted he had the right skills to follow in his footsteps. He was seen as a black sheep as rarely taken seriously. Everyone felt that Kim Jong- il would struggle to keep up to his father's standards. Were they right?
'The Real Dr Evil' follows the fascinating journey of Kim Jong- il -- from his childhood experiences, through his education, to his controversial leadership. When the great economic collapse of the mid-90s struck, Jong-il left many of his citizens to suffer. But as many began to lose hope, Jung-il began approaching many western countries for help. Many perceived this distress signal positively, others did not.

Pyongyang, April 26 (KCNA) -- The Mansugyo Meat and Fish Shop built on the bank of picturesque Pothong River in Pyongyang started its business on Wednesday. The 3-storey shop covers 5 000 plus square meters. Its ground floor has counters of fresh and frozen fish and processed fish while the first floor counters of meat including beef, pork, goose, turkey and quail and processed foodstuff. North and South Korea are, both legally and philosophically, in a state of war. While the guns may be silent, the conflict between the two countries has now become one of propaganda.
With the assistance of the Human Rights Foundation, North Korean defectors now in South Korea have been launching hydrogen-filled balloons across the 38th parallel — carrying both money and propaganda. In late 2014, a balloon launch sparked a brief exchange of gunfire between North and South Korean soldiers, and even more recently, Pyongyang has promised that hellfire will rain on South Korea if any copies of the controversial Hollywood comedy The Interview make it across the border.
VICE News traveled to Seoul to meet frontline soldiers in this information war — and to attend a clandestine launch of propaganda balloons into the Hermit Kingdom.

Pyongyang, April 26 (KCNA) -- The Mansugyo Meat and Fish Shop built on the bank of picturesque Pothong River in Pyongyang started its business on Wednesday.
The 3-storey shop covers 5 000 plus square meters.
Its ground floor has counters of fresh and frozen fish and processed fish while the first floor counters of meat including beef, pork, goose, turkey and quail and processed foodstuff.
The second floor has a restaurant serving steak.
The opening ceremony was held on Wednesday.
The dear respected Kim Jong Un appeared at the shop to congratulate its opening.
Attended there were Kim Yong Nam, Choe Yong Rim, Choe Ryong Hae, Ri Yong Ho and other senior party, state and army officials and officials concerned.
Looking round the interior of the shop, Kim Jong Un expressed great satisfaction with the solider builders having built the shop to be loved by the people.
He ardently said leader Kim Jong Il would have seen the shop with the highest service level.
He advanced tasks to manage and operate the shop.
He visited the shop construction site in January and indicated the orientation and ways for construction, underlining the need to provide the best convenience to the consumers. -0-

'The Real Dr Evil' explores the rise of Kim Jong-il after his father, Kim II- sung's, death. His father, who is referred to as 'Great Leader' by North Korea, was a highly praised and well-respected leader -the founder of North Korea and commander of the fifth largest standing army in the world.
Following the death of Kim II-sung, Kim Jong- il was left to fulfil the position of his father, however many doubted he had the right skills to follow in his footsteps. He was seen as a black sheep as rarely taken seriously. Everyone felt that Kim Jong- il would struggle to keep up to his father's standards. Were they right?
'The Real Dr Evil' follows the fascinating journey of Kim Jong- il -- from his childhood experiences, through his education, to his controversial leadership. When the great economic collapse of the mid-90s struck, Jong-il left many of his citizens to suffer. But as many began to lose hope, Jung-il began approaching many western countries for help. Many perceived this distress signal positively, others did not.

'The Real Dr Evil' explores the rise of Kim Jong-il after his father, Kim II- sung's, death. His father, who is referred to as 'Great Leader' by North Korea, was a highly praised and well-respected leader -the founder of North Korea and commander of the fifth largest standing army in the world.
Following the death of Kim II-sung, Kim Jong- il was left to fulfil the position of his father, however many doubted he had the right skills to follow in his footsteps. He was seen as a black sheep as rarely taken seriously. Everyone felt that Kim Jong- il would struggle to keep up to his father's standards. Were they right?
'The Real Dr Evil' follows the fascinating journey of Kim Jong- il -- from his childhood experiences, through his education, to his controversial leadership. When the great economic collapse of the mid-90s struck, Jong-il left many of his citizens to suffer. But as many began to lose hope, Jung-il began approaching many western countries for help. Many perceived this distress signal positively, others did not.

Schuld ist neben immer wiederkehrenden Unwettern und Missernten die kommunistische Zwangswirtschaft. Kim Jong Ils unstillbarer Hunger nach französischem Cognac und schönen Frauen steht in krassem Widerspruch zum Leiden seiner Landsleute. Dennoch gibt es keine Anzeichen einer Despotendämmerung ähnlich der in Tunis oder Kairo. In Pjöngjang herrscht Friedhofsruhe.
Die Dokumentation von Anthony Dufour zeigt seltene Aufnahmen aus chinesischen, russischen und südkoreanischen Archiven, die in der Gesamtschau das Bild einer schillernden Persönlichkeit mit bizarren Facetten zeigt, die jedoch alles andere als verrückt ist. Im Gegenteil: In Experten-Interviews wird deutlich, dass die nukleare Drohkulisse, mit der Nordkoreas "geliebter Führer", wie er sich gern nennen lässt, die Welt in Angst und Schrecken versetzt, durchaus ihren Zweck erfüllt. Immer wieder richtet der Westen den Blick auf das kleine, wirtschaftlich völlig unbedeutende Land, das nur durch seine Atomwaffen als Player der Weltpolitik ernst genommen wird.
Ein Mann mit vielen Gesichtern
Aber auch Privates wird offenbart: Kim Jong Ils Liebe zu amerikanischen Spielfilmen, seine eigenen künstlerischen Ambitionen, sein Faible für attraktive Schauspielerinnen und sein Hang zu exzentrischen Gelagen. Enge Weggefährten kommen ebenso zu Wort wie eine südkoreanische Filmschauspielerin, für die Kim Jong Il einst dermaßen schwärmte, dass er sie kurzerhand entführen ließ.
Der ehemalige Chefpsychiater des CIA, Jerrold Post, dagegen betrachtet das Leben Kim Jong Ils unter anderen Gesichtspunkten: das frühe Trauma eines Kindes, dessen Bruder in seinem Beisein oder möglicherweise durch sein Verschulden ertrank, dessen Mutter starb, als er gerade sieben war, und das zeitlebens im Schatten eines übermächtigen Vaters stand.

A mega-tsunami that grew to 100 meters high (328 feet) – and is one of the tallest tsunamis ever recorded – struck a remote settlement in Greenland about six weeks ago, Forbes reported Wednesday. The wave injured dozens and killed four people from the 84-person small fishing village, the report said ... Some tsunamis, Forbes reported, can travel at speeds up to 500 mph, the equivalent of a jet plane, clearly faster than a human can run....
