Of very few individual songs can it be said, ‘This changed the course of popular music.’ ‘A Day In The Life’ is one such song.
Recorded in January and February 1967, a large orchestra was assembled for the amazing additional flourishes and fills, although at first the 40 classically trained musicians struggled with the concept of what they were being asked to play.
George Martin and Paul conducted the orchestra and helped to create a finished track that was more than just different, it was utterly unique. Starting from John’s beautiful song, the end result was something simply unbelievable.
As you can see from the film, this was no ordinary recording session. The classical musicians, who had been asked to wear evening dress, took it upon themselves to wear fake noses, funny hats and generally enter into the spirit of the occasion. Filmed between 8pm and 1am with guests including Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the occasion provided some of the inspiration for what transpired during the recording and filming of ‘All You Need Is Love’ for the Our World project.

Follow Michigan Freshman Jordan Poole as he begins to prepare for Big Ten Basketball in Ann Arbor. Just weeks before he leaves to officially begin practicing with the team, InTheGymHoops was fortunate to follow him around for a day in Rockford, IL. He was able to play one on one with the Toronto Raptor's Fred VanVleet. Afterwards he played some Madden and NBA 2K at Rockford University while waiting in between workouts. He also grabbed a bite to eat at Potbelly Sandwich Shop. Following his evening workout he ended his day with a weight lift back at Rockford University.

A rogue with an eye for salvage - and the ladies - Ray: A Life Underwater is an affectionate portrait of one man's deep sea diving career, told through his extraordinary collection of marine artefacts.
Like a modern-day pirate, 75-year-old Ray Ives has been scouring the seabed for treasure his whole life.
The former commercial diver has plundered the deep for over fifty years, bringing to the surface anything that glittered -- even gold.
In a shipping container near the water, Ray tends his museum of cannon, bottles, bells, swords, portholes and diving gear.
He even still takes to the water in a 1900s diving suit.
Ray can be found most days at his museum at Yacht Haven Quay, Plymouth.

A Day in the Life
"A Day in the Life" is the final song on the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. Credited to Lennon–McCartney, the song comprises distinct sections written independently by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, with orchestral additions. While Lennon's lyrics were inspired by contemporary newspaper articles, McCartney's were reminiscent of his youth. The decisions to link sections of the song with orchestral glissandos and to end the song with a sustained piano chord were made only after the rest of the song had been recorded.
The supposed drug reference in the line "I'd love to turn you on" resulted in the song initially being banned from broadcast by the BBC. Since its original album release, "A Day in the Life" has been released as a B-side, and also on various compilation albums. It has been covered by other artists, and since 2008, by McCartney in his live performances. It was ranked the 28th greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone magazine. On a different list, the magazine ranked it as the greatest Beatles song.

Pension tax simplification
Pension tax simplification, often simply referred to as "pension simplification" and taking effect from A-day on 6 April 2006 was a policy announced in 2004 by the Labour government to rationalise the British tax system as applied to pension schemes. The aim was to reduce the complicated patchwork of legislation built-up by successive administrations which were seen as acting as a barrier to the public when considering retirement planning. The government wanted to encourage retirement provision by simplifying the previous eight tax regimes into one single regime for all individual and occupational pensions.
Main changes
Broadly the new regime allows considerable freedom in the tax relievable contributions that may be made to pension schemes, and the assets in which they may be invested. It also however caps the size of tax favoured pension fund that may be accumulated by an individual. This 'lifetime allowance' was set at £1.6M for 2007–08. Funds accumulated in excess of the lifetime allowance are subject to a tax charge of 55%. Transitional protection provisions were made for individuals who had already accumulated pension funds in excess of this amount.

In the Life
In the Life was a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) television newsmagazine, broadcast on PBS and produced by In The Life Media. It was created in 1991 by the Emmy Award-winning producer John Scagliotti. Premiering on June 9, 1992, it was the longest running LGBT television program in history.
In September 2012, In The Life Media announced that the December 2012 broadcast would be the last. ITLM said it would work with other organizations to create a web-based archive of historical videos documenting the LGBT rights movement, enhancing the organization's online presence and hopefully broadening its reach.
Hosts
The series was regularly commentated by Harvey Fierstein from 2001 to 2004. Past hosts of the show include Kate Clinton and Katherine Linton. Follow Michigan Freshman Jordan Poole as he begins to prepare for Big Ten Basketball in Ann Arbor. Just weeks before he leaves to officially begin practicing with the team, InTheGymHoops was fortunate to follow him around for a day in Rockford, IL. He was able to play one on one with the Toronto Raptor's Fred VanVleet. Afterwards he played some Madden and NBA 2K at Rockford University while waiting in between workouts. For example, ‘Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire,’ - boom ba bom. I try to show that; the disenchanting mood. The drum fills are part of it.” Ringo Starr Of very few individual songs can it be said, ‘This changed the course of popular music.’ ‘A Day In The Life’ is one such song. Recorded in January and February 1967, a large orchestra was assembled for the amazing additional flourishes and fills, although at first the 40 classically trained musicians struggled with the concept of what they were being asked to play. George Martin and Paul conducted the orchestra and helped to create a finished track that was more than just different, it was utterly unique. Starting from John’s beautiful song, the end result was something simply unbelievable. As you can see from the film, this was no ordinary recording session. Just weeks before he leaves to officially begin practicing with the team, InTheGymHoops was fortunate to follow him around for a day in Rockford, IL. In a shipping container near the water, Ray tends his museum of cannon, bottles, bells, swords, portholes and diving gear. He even still takes to the water in a 1900s diving suit. A Day in the Life of a Fire Lookout.
The video documents the (usually) very peaceful life of a fire lookout in the Gardner Lookout on the East Peak of Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County, California. I've been a Marin County Fire Department volunteer lookout for years and deeply love the mountain and the peace it brings to us here in the Bay Area. Perhaps this 6-minute video will convey some of the emotions I feel when sitting (and sleeping) on her peak. Recorded in January and February 1967, a large orchestra was assembled for the amazing additional flourishes and fills, although at first the 40 classically trained musicians struggled with the concept of what they were being asked to play. George Martin and Paul conducted the orchestra and helped to create a finished track that was more than just different, it was utterly unique. Starting from John’s beautiful song, the end result was something simply unbelievable. As you can see from the film, this was no ordinary recording session. The classical musicians, who had been asked to wear evening dress, took it upon themselves to wear fake noses, funny hats and generally enter into the spirit of the occasion. Filmed between 8pm and 1am with guests including Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the occasion provided some of the inspiration for what transpired during the recording and filming of ‘All You Need Is Love’ for the Our World project. He also grabbed a bite to eat at Potbelly Sandwich Shop. Following his evening workout he ended his day with a weight lift back at Rockford University.
