I Funk Off: street band italianissima (Toscana) che va oltre il tradizionale concetto di marching band proponendo una musica trascinante e spettacolare, molto moderna, estremamente coinvolgente sul piano ritmico.
Pensate a una musica in cui si affacciano echi di James Brown e Frank Zappa, fino al puro funk tipo Gorge Clinton.
Il gruppo toscano, che ha esordito a Umbria Jazz nel 2003, è stato in pratica riproposto quasi tutti gli anni, anche nell' edizione invernale a Orvieto, diventando un' attrazione fissa del festival.
Stesso successo ha riscosso anche all' estero, da Melbourne a New York, dove la band ha partecipato alle iniziative di Umbria Jazz. Il motivo della sua popolarità è perfino banale: è divertente e suona bene, ed il suo senso dello spettacolo riesce a rivitalizzare un genere secolare.

I Funkoff sono una marching band nata a Vicchio (FI) nel 1998, da un'idea del sassofonista Dario Cecchini.
Alla matrice di origine bandistica, i Funkoff uniscono ritmi diversi, fondendo funky, soul, jazz, latin e rock, creando un interessante mix musicale energico e peculiare. Sono ispirati dalla tradizione delle street band di New Orleans e da artisti come Maceo Parker, James Brown e quelli Motown. Ritmi e sonorità differenti tra loro si mescolano e si fondono in strutture armoniche e formali, in cui lo spazio lasciato all'improvvisazione è spesso inserito in contesti compositivi di ricerca, senza preclusioni di stile e sonorità. Il progetto ha tra le sue caratteristiche quella di far sempre accompagnare alla musica delle coreografie originali, per cui i musicisti mentre suonano, vanno in parade o cantano sul palco, ballano.
Hanno oltre 500 concerti al loro attivo e sono stati band ufficiali dell'Umbria Jazz ed Umbria Jazz Winter in più edizioni.

The Funkoff are a marching band born in Vicchio (FI) in 1998, the brainchild of saxophonist Dario Cecchini.
To the source matrix Brass Band, the Funkoff combine different rhythms, fusing funk, soul, jazz, latin and rock, creating an interesting mix of music energetic and unique. They are inspired by the tradition of street bands of New Orleans and artists such as Maceo Parker, James Brown and the Motown. Rhythms and sounds different from each blend and merge into harmonic and formal structures, in which space left to improvisation is often incorporated in compositional contexts of research, no holds barred style and sound. The project has among its characteristics to that always accompany the music of the original choreography, so the musicians as they play, go on parade or on stage singing, dancing.
They have over 500 concerts under their belt and have been the official band of Umbria Jazz and Umbria Jazz Winter in multiple editions.

Il gruppo toscano, che ha esordito a Umbria Jazz nel 2003, è stato in pratica riproposto quasi tutti gli anni, anche nell’ edizione invernale a Orvieto, diventando un’ attrazione fissa del festival.

This very Italian marching band has become a regular feature of the Umbria Jazz Festival, summer and winter, since 2003. Their roots are firmly embedded in the jazz of the southern United States, to which they add an injection of funk, soul, and other popular music forms. Behind the show and the fun lies some very serious musicianship, and Funk Off are equally effective playing on stage or in the street.
I Funk Off rappresentano una specie di cartolina musicale di Umbria Jazz, sia estiva che invernale. Una street band italianissima è riuscita a prendere stabilmente il posto delle marching band di New Orleans, che il festival aveva introdotto in Italia, e non le ha fatte rimpiangere. Anzi. Buona musica e spettacolo sono gli ingredienti fondamentali della formazione toscana che ha aggiornato i contenuti stilistici di quelle orchestre itineranti la cui nascita affonda nelle radici stesse del jazz del sud degli stati Uniti, con robuste inienzioni di funky, soul e altri generi popolari e stradaioli.
I Funk Off sono divertenti e trascinano il pubblico che li segue con entusiasmo e curiosità nelle loro parate per il centro storico di Orvieto. Sono ormai sinonimo di festa e di festival, ma non è trascurabile il fatto che a tutto questo apparato scenografico si aggiunga un seria preparazione musicale: i Funk Off funzionano anche in versione palco."

Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in the mid- to late 1960s when African American musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of soul music, jazz, and rhythm and blues (R&B). Funk de-emphasizes melody and harmony and brings a strong rhythmic groove of electric bass and drums to the foreground. Funk songs are often based on an extended vamp on a single chord, distinguishing them from R&B and soul songs, which are built on complex chord progressions. Funk uses the same extended chords found in bebop jazz, such as minor chords with added sevenths and elevenths, or dominant seventh chords with altered ninths.
Like much African-inspired music, funk typically consists of a complex groove with rhythm instruments such as electric guitar, electric bass, Hammond organ, and drums playing interlocking rhythms. Funk bands sometimes have a horn section of several saxophones, trumpets, and in some cases, a trombone, which plays rhythmic "hits". Funk originated in the mid-1960s, with James Brown's development of a signature groove that emphasized the downbeat—with heavy emphasis on the first beat of every measure, funky bass lines, drum patterns, and syncopated guitar riffs. Other musical groups, including Sly & the Family Stone and Parliament-Funkadelic, soon began to adopt and develop Brown's innovations. While much of the written history of funk focuses on men, there have been notable funk women, including Chaka Khan, Labelle, Brides of Funkenstein, Klymaxx, Mother's Finest, and Betty Davis.

Dario Cecchini
Dario Cecchini (born 1955) is a leading contemporary internationally known Italian butcher from Panzano in the Chianti region of Italy.
Biography
Cecchini was born in 1955 in the Tuscan village of Panzano where his father was the butcher, the eighth generation of Cecchini butchers. He studied veterinary science at the university in Pisa but in 1976, three years into his six-year course, had to take over the family business from his dying father. Described as "... a personality, a celebrity, and a butcher extraordinaire. A theatrical host, a show-stopper, and an artist",
In March 2014 Cecchini was featured in BBC Radio 4's The Food Programme, which included a recording of him presenting at the MAD Symposium in August 2013 in Copenhagen, to 500 chefs from around the world. As if the 20 minutes Cecchini spent describing his life’s work and his love for his wife weren’t poetic enough, he closed by reciting a lengthy passage from Dante Alighieri, by heart.
Cecchini, on a mission to protect and promote the traditional local butcher from the rise of the powerful supermarkets, explained that he believed butchery was an ancient art that involved a respect for the animal, seeing his role as that of teacher and educator. According to Ceccini, there were no "premium" and "lower" cuts of meat, but rather all the parts of the animal were useful if butchered and cooked in an appropriate way. Cecchini argues that his work could amount to poetry, a combination of knowledge (understanding that you can use every part of the animal) and consciousness (respect for the animal) that can bring people back to the “original customs of the tribe,“ in a world where everything seems to be getting more and more commodified, processed and impersonal.

James Brown
James Joseph Brown (May 3, 1933 – December 25, 2006) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer and bandleader. The founding father of funk music and a major figure of 20th century popular music and dance, he is often referred to as the "Godfather of Soul". In a career that spanned six decades, Brown influenced the development of several music genres.
Brown began his career as a gospel singer in Toccoa, Georgia. Joining an R&B vocal group called the Avons that later evolved to become the Flames, Brown served as the group's lead singer. First coming to national public attention in the late 1950s as a member of the singing group the Famous Flames with the hit ballads "Please, Please, Please" and "Try Me", Brown built a reputation as a tireless live performer with the Famous Flames and his backing band, sometimes known as the James Brown Band or the James Brown Orchestra. Brown's success peaked in the 1960s with the live album Live at the Apollo and hit singles such as "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag", "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and "It's a Man's Man's Man's World". During the late 1960s, Brown moved from a continuum of blues and gospel-based forms and styles to a profoundly "Africanized" approach to music-making that influenced the development of funk music. By the early 1970s, Brown had fully established the funk sound after the formation of the J.B.s with records such as "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine" and "The Payback". Brown also became notable for songs of social commentary, including the 1968 hit "Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud". Brown continued to perform and record until his death in 2006 from congestive heart failure.

This very Italian marching band has become a regular feature of the Umbria Jazz Festival, summer and winter, since 2003. Their roots are firmly embedded in the jazz of the southern United States, to which they add an injection of funk, soul, and other popular music forms. Behind the show and the fun lies some very serious musicianship, and Funk Off are equally effective playing on stage or in the street. I Funk Off rappresentano una specie di cartolina musicale di Umbria Jazz, sia estiva che invernale. Una street band italianissima è riuscita a prendere stabilmente il posto delle marching band di New Orleans, che il festival aveva introdotto in Italia, e non le ha fatte rimpiangere. Anzi. Buona musica e spettacolo sono gli ingredienti fondamentali della formazione toscana che ha aggiornato i contenuti stilistici di quelle orchestre itineranti la cui nascita affonda nelle radici stesse del jazz del sud degli stati Uniti, con robuste inienzioni di funky, soul e altri generi popolari e stradaioli. I Funk Off sono divertenti e trascinano il pubblico che li segue con entusiasmo e curiosità nelle loro parate per il centro storico di Orvieto. Sul piano del divertimento non sono secondi a nessuno i Funk Off, street band italianissima (Toscana) che va oltre il tradizionale concetto di marching band proponendo una musica trascinante e spettacolare, molto moderna, estremamente coinvolgente sul piano ritmico.
Sono diventati, da quando Umbria Jazz li ha presentati tra i beniamini del pubblico. Pensate a una musica in cui si affacciano echi di James Brown e Frank Zappa, fino al puro funk tipo Gorge Clinton. Il gruppo toscano, che ha esordito a Umbria Jazz nel 2003, è stato in pratica riproposto quasi tutti gli anni, anche nell’ edizione invernale a Orvieto, diventando un’ attrazione fissa del festival.
Stesso successo ha riscosso anche all’ estero, da Melbourne a New York, dove la band ha partecipato alle iniziative di Umbria Jazz. Il motivo della sua popolarità è perfino banale: è divertente e suona bene, ed il suo senso dello spettacolo riesce a rivitalizzare un genere secolare. È inoltre appena uscito il loro nuovo lavoro, dal titolo “Things Change”, per Jando Music / Via Veneto Jazz, al cui interno trova spazio la voce di Avery*Sunshine, la stella nascente della black music americana, che sarà ospite nelle loro esibizioni on stage.

This very Italian marching band has become a regular feature of the Umbria Jazz Festival, summer and winter, since 2003. Their roots are firmly embedded in the jazz of the southern United States, to which they add an injection of funk, soul, and other popular music forms. Behind the show and the fun lies some very serious musicianship, and Funk Off are equally effective playing on stage or in the street.

Una street band italianissima è riuscita a prendere stabilmente il posto delle marching band di New Orleans, che il festival aveva introdotto in Italia, e non le ha fatte rimpiangere. Anzi. Buona musica e spettacolo sono gli ingredienti fondamentali della formazione toscana che ha aggiornato i contenuti stilistici di quelle orchestre itineranti la cui nascita affonda nelle radici stesse del jazz del sud degli stati Uniti, con robuste inienzioni di funky, soul e altri generi popolari e stradaioli.
I Funk Off sono divertenti e trascinano il pubblico che li segue con entusiasmo e curiosità nelle loro parate per il centro storico di Orvieto. Sono ormai sinonimo di festa e di festival, ma non è trascurabile il fatto che a tutto questo apparato scenografico si aggiunga un seria preparazione musicale: i Funk Off funzionano anche in versione palco."

Epic day starting it off with Thunder meeting ranger! Picked up tyler and took him to the funk house to get a nice trampoline trick session in! Learned so many new tricks and combos all because of tyler! After our sesh we went indoor skydiving as a family my mom mastered in right away! opened some fan mail and added it to the peace tea can wall! Decided to go the the local trampoline park and mess around on the new obstacle course and slackline! Broke all the rules and only got in trouble for double bouncing!

His was a perfect set to ease us into the day: a rambling blend of jackin' house, raw-cut jams, and acid-fried disco.
