Peter Anthony DeFazio (born May 27, 1947) is the U.S. Representative for Oregon's 4th congressional district, serving since 1987. He is a member of the Democratic Party. The district includes Eugene, Springfield, Roseburg and part of Corvallis. As Oregon's most senior member of Congress, he is the dean of Oregon's House of Representatives delegation. A native of Massachusetts and a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserves, he previously served as a county commissioner in Lane County, Oregon.
DeFazio was born in Needham, Massachusetts in 1947, a suburb of Boston. He credits his great-uncle with shaping his politics; as a boy, that great-uncle almost never said "Republican" without including "bastard" at the end (or "bastud," as it usually sounds in the Boston accent). He served in the United States Air Force Reserves from 1967 to 1971. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University in 1969 and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Oregon in 1977.
Wall Street is a 0.7-mile-long (1.1 km) street running eight blocks, roughly northwest to southeast, from Broadway to South Street on the East River in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City. Over time, the term has become a metonym for the financial markets of the United States as a whole, the American financial sector (even if financial firms are not physically located there), or signifying New York-based financial interests.
Anchored by Wall Street, New York City has been called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world, and the city is home to the world's two largest stock exchanges by total market capitalization, the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Several other major exchanges have or had headquarters in the Wall Street area, including the New York Mercantile Exchange, the New York Board of Trade, and the former American Stock Exchange.
There are varying accounts about how the Dutch-named "de Waal Straat" got its name. A generally accepted version is that the name of the street was derived from an earthen wall on the northern boundary of the New Amsterdam settlement, perhaps to protect against English colonial encroachment or incursions by Native Americans. A conflicting explanation is that Wall Street was named after Walloons— the Dutch name for a Walloon is Waal. Among the first settlers that embarked on the ship "Nieu Nederlandt" in 1624 were 30 Walloon families. The Dutch word "wal" can be translated as "rampart". However, even some English maps show the name as Waal Straat, and not as Wal Straat.
Peter often is used to refer to Saint Peter, a disciple of Jesus Christ. It can also refer to many other people, of which only a few are listed here. This page only lists people commonly referred to as "Peter" and nothing else; for others, please see List of people named Peter.

Some people aren't afraid to go against the flow or make some waves when they believe in something. Kind of like Peter DeFazio. Peter stood up to leaders in both parties to lead the fight against the $700 billion Wall Street bailout. But this isn't a big surprise. Peter DeFazio has been fighting to crack down on Wall Street's reckless behavior for years. Whether it is standing up to powerful Wall Street banks or greedy big oil executives, Peter DeFazio will take on anyone who threatens Oregon families.
My dad was my high school wrestling coach and he taught me that you never give up, no matter what the score. This is how I approach the tough fights in Congress- from fighting unfair trade agreements like NAFTA, to taking on big corporations who want tax breaks while they ship American jobs overseas. If my wrestling opponents in high school couldn't pin me, corporate America won't have any better luck. www.defazioforcongress.org
Peter DeFazio has voted "no" on every Congressional pay raise, and instead uses the money to fund debt reduction and scholarships for displaced workers at five Oregon community colleges. By the end of 2014, he will have contributed $378,000 towards reducing the debt and funding 237 scholarships for Oregonians.

Presented on June 19, 2009 Congressman Peter DeFazio "Cap-and-trade system provides economic incentives to control pollution. Government sets a cap on greenhouse gas emissions and then issues program participants – companies and organizations who may or may not be polluters themselves – permits to pollute up to a certain amount. Companies that exceed their cap can then purchase, i.e. “trade,” credits from those who pollute less. On June 19, City Club welcomes Congressman Peter DeFazio who will discuss his concerns with proposals for a national cap-and-trade system. Though a supporter of regulating greenhouse gas emissions he is a critic of market-based approaches, pointing to problems with energy deregulation in the Pacific Northwest, weaknesses in Europe’s cap-and-trade system and the c...
Presented on November 15, 1991 Peter DeFazio, U.S. Congressman (D-Fourth District) "More than half of this country's highway miles are substandard. Forty percent of America's bridges are deficient or obsolete. Bad roads cost the average motorist an estimated $121 each [year?] in the form of higher fuel consumption, extra repairs and increased tire wear. Decades of underinvestment in America's basic transportation and water systems has been likened to this country's ""Third Deficit."" Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-Springfield) is a member of the House Surface Transportation Subcommittee which recently drafted a $151 billion highway and mass transit bill. The landmark legislation contains $515 million for the Westside Light Rail project and funding for a host of Oregon highway projects....

There's just one kind of man
That you can trust
That's a dead man...
Or a gringo like me
Be the first one to fire
Every man is a liar
There's just one kind of man
Who tells the truth
That's a dead man...
Or a gringo like me
Don't be a fool for a smile or a kiss
Or your a bullet might miss
Keep your eye on your goal
There's just one rule
That can save you your life
It's a hand on your knife
And the Devil in your soul
Keep your hand on your gun
Don't you trust anyone
There's just one kind of man
That you can trust
That's a dead man...
