Ristar, released as Ristar the Shooting Star (リスター・ザ・シューティングスター, Risutā za Shūtingu Sutā) in Japan, is a platform game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis, released worldwide in February 1995. A Sega Game Gear game, of the same name and genre, Ristar, was also released, which shared similar themes, while possessing different level design and gameplay mechanics.
The game stars an anthropomorphic cartoon star who uses his hands and long, stretchable arms to both move and combat enemies. Reception for the game has been generally positive, but the game's initial release was overshadowed due to the imminent ending of the Genesis's lifecycle and the succession of the Sega Saturn and other fifth generation video game consoles. While never receiving any sequels, Sega has re-released the game a number of times digitally and on Sega-themed compilations, and has occasionally given Ristar himself cameos in other Sega properties.
Ristar plays as a 2D sidescrolling platformer, similar to games in the Super Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games, but focusing less on jumping and speed, and more on the use of Ristar's stretchable arms, of which can be reached in 8 different main directions. The player must maneuver Ristar through the level to its end, while avoiding damage from obstacles and enemies. Ristar's extendable arms are used as the main means of attacking enemies; through extending his arms, grabbing the enemy, and pulling himself towards them into a "headbutt" motion to defeat them. The same motion also allows for opening treasure chests containing various items, or striking different parts of the environment, such as knocking trees over. Additionally, his elastic arms can merely be used for grabbing and/or throwing objects as well.
The Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive (Japanese: メガドライブ, Hepburn: Mega Doraibu) in most regions outside North America, is a 16-bit home video game console which was developed and sold by Sega Enterprises, Ltd. The Genesis was Sega's third console and the successor to the Master System. Sega first released the console as the Mega Drive in Japan in 1988, followed by a North American debut under the Genesis moniker in 1989. In 1990, the console was distributed as the Mega Drive by Virgin Mastertronic in Europe, by Ozisoft in Australasia, and by Tec Toy in Brazil. In South Korea, the systems were distributed by Samsung and were known as the Super Gam*Boy (Hangul: 수퍼겜보이), and later the Super Aladdin Boy (Hangul: 수퍼알라딘보이).
Designed by an R&D team supervised by Hideki Sato and Masami Ishikawa, the Genesis hardware was adapted from Sega's System 16 arcade board, centered on a Motorola 68000 processor as a primary CPU and a Zilog Z80 as a secondary processor. The system supports a library of more than 900 games created both by Sega and a wide array of third-party publishers and delivered on ROM-based cartridges. It can also play Master System games when the separately sold Power Base Converter is installed. The Genesis has benefited from several peripherals and network services, as well as multiple first-party and third-party variations of the console that focus on extending its functionality.

Sonic Team (ソニックチーム, Sonikku Chīmu) is a Japanese video game developer established in Ōta, Tokyo, Japan in 1990. Sonic Team is best known for the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and either develop or supervise all products within the series.
Sonic the Hedgehog became Sega's biggest success on home consoles, elevating the creators Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima into lofty positions within the company being able to name their CS3 department into Sonic Team. After the creation of the first Sonic the Hedgehog, development resources went two ways. One group of staff went abroad to San Francisco to develop games, however except for collaboration with American staff on Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the staff was almost completely Japanese throughout. Meanwhile, staff in Japan would develop Sonic CD. When staff arrived back in Japan in 1995, they developed new IP such as Burning Rangers and Nights Into Dreams..., which were the first titles to be promoted with the Sonic Team moniker on the game's box art.
In its most general form, a playlist is simply a list of songs, but sometimes a loop. They can be played in sequential or shuffled order. The term has several specialized meanings in the realms of radio broadcasting and personal computers. A playlist can also be a list of recorded titles on a digital video disk. On the Internet, a playlist can be a list of chapters in a movie serial; for example, Flash Gordon in the Planet Mongo is available on YouTube as a playlist of thirteen consecutive video segments.
The term originally came about in the early days of top 40 radio formats when stations would devise (and, eventually, publish) a limited list of songs to be played. The term would go on to refer to the entire catalog of songs that a given radio station (of any format) would draw from. Additionally, the term was used to refer to an ordered list of songs played during a given time period. Playlists are often adjusted based on time of day, known as dayparting.

This is a playthrough of Ristar (also known as Ristar the Shooting Star) for the SEGA Game Gear. Game Gear Ristar isn't quite as polished as the Mega Drive version, but it still has its charm. I had some good fun with it, at the very least. I figured I should record this version of the game too given there doesn't seem to be much coverage of it on YouTube, at least not in the full, clean playthrough department. Hopefully this shall suffice~ ...damn, I love Ristar. --- Watch the Ristar (Mega Drive/Genesis) playthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c42yOLO_mk4 Commentary channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/FlameHisWorld

For the annotations, White Text in Red refers to the Japanese version, while White Text in Blue refers to the American version. The European version just follows all of what the American version contains, so consider them the same besides their frame rate differences. --------------- This video points out the many changes, additions, and omissions between the Japanese & American versions of Ristar. Not all of them, however, but most of them, I'm sure. You're free to note any other differences between the versions that I did not cover in this video. First, I show the Japanese version of a scene, then its American equivalent, pointing out whatever may be different between them. At least once will it be vice-versa: American first, then Japanese. Just watch the colors of the annotations so...
http://www.skelding.net/ Ah Ristar...wrong place, wrong time, great game! Ristar is obviously copyright of SEGA. Did you GENUINELY think that I had anything to do with his creation him? You're dumb. I can see many flaws and things I'd improve in this, but I'm happy with how it went. I will forever hate drawing backgrounds. Well I lost my faith in fellow man
I've been living alone so long
That I dont know who I am
Why did it take so long
Why did it take so long
Ive been waiting a lifetime
For someone like you to set me free
Why did it take so long
For you to come and rescue me
Why did it take so long
Why did it take so long
Cos youre beautiful and everyone knows it
And youre everything I want you to be
I got sunshine on my face my smile shows it
Well it cant be wrong
cos youre so right for me
Youre so right for me
Yeah yeah
Youre so right for me
Well it just dont matter if its wrong or right
I didnt know something could feel so good
Ive been wasting all my time
Why did it take so long
