Texas

Texas /ˈtɛksəs/ (Spanish: Texas or Tejas [ˈtexas]) is a state in the United States of America. It is the second most populous and second largest state by area in the US. Geographically located in the south central part of the country, Texas shares an international border with Mexico to the south and borders the states of New Mexico to the west, Oklahoma to the north, Arkansas to the northeast, and Louisiana to the east. Texas has an area of 268,820 square miles (696,200 km²) and a growing population of over 27.5 million residents (July 2015).

Houston is the largest city in Texas and the fourth-largest in the United States, while San Antonio is the second largest in the state and seventh largest in the United States. Dallas–Fort Worth and Greater Houston are the fourth and fifth largest United States metropolitan statistical areas, respectively. Other major cities include Austin (the state capital) and El Paso. Texas is nicknamed the Lone Star State to signify Texas as a former independent republic, and as a reminder of the state's struggle for independence from Mexico. The "Lone Star" can be found on the Texan state flag and on the Texan state seal. The origin of the state name, Texas, is from the word, "Tejas", which means 'friends' in the Caddo language.

Texas Music

Texas Music is a quarterly entertainment magazine published in Austin, Texas. Since its launch in January 2000, Texas Music has covered hundreds of the state’s musicians and bands, representing all styles of music, in addition to writing about the venues and events that contribute to the state’s music scene. Launched in January 2000, the magazine was formed out of an idea for a MBA school project by publisher Stewart Ramser.

Texas Music includes compilation CDs featuring Texas artists inside some issues. More than 300 artists have appeared on these CDs since 2005.

The magazine also hosts reader appreciation parties featuring performances by Texas artists.

The editor of Texas Music is Tom Buckley, a University of Texas faculty member. The art director is Martha Gazella-Taylor, who won a design award — the Charles E. Green Award for Excellence in Journalism — in 2005 for her work on the magazine. Associate editors are William Michael Smith and Allie Eissler. Don McLeese is senior editor, and Madison Searle edits the book review section.

White on Blonde is the fourth studio album by Scottish rock band Texas, released by Mercury Records in February 1997. The album was the band's first number one, and became their biggest seller. It has been certified 6x Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry for sales of over 1.8 million copies.

Background and release

The album included five UK Top Ten singles, "Say What You Want" (UK #3), "Halo" (UK #10), "Black Eyed Boy" (UK #5), "Put Your Arms Around Me" (UK #10) and "Insane" (UK #4) which was released as a double A-sided single with "Say What You Want (All Day, Every Day)" - a new version of the 1997 hit featuring additional rap vocals by the Wu-Tang Clan.

White on Blonde has been certified 6x Platinum in the UK, which indicates sales of over 1.8 million copies in that territory. The album was also a major success in various European countries, such as France where it peaked at #2 on the French Album Charts. Worldwide, sales of White on Blonde are estimated at around 4-5 million copies. The album was produced by the band themselves, along with Mike Hedges and former Eurythmics star Dave Stewart.
