Edward Charles "Chuck" Knoblauch (/ˈnɒblɔːk/; born July 7, 1968) is a retired Major League Baseball player. He played all or part of twelve seasons in the majors, from 1991 until 2002, for the Minnesota Twins (1991–97), New York Yankees (1998–2001) and Kansas City Royals (2002). He played mostly as a second baseman before moving to left field for his last two seasons.
Born in Houston, Texas, Knoblauch came from a baseball family, as his uncle Eddie Knoblauch and father Ray Knoblauch played and managed in the minor leagues between the late 1930s and mid-1950s. He was drafted in the 18th round of the 1986 amateur draft by the Philadelphia Phillies, but did not sign. Then, Knoblauch went on to play college baseball for Texas A&M University in College Station, where he was a second team All-American. He later played on the 1989 team that finished the season with 58 wins, which is the highest total in school history.
Knoblauch was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 1st round of the 1989 MLB Draft. Knoblauch won the American League Rookie of the Year award and a World Series ring as a member of the 1991 Minnesota Twins. In Game 7 of the World Series, Knoblauch attempted to deceive Lonnie Smith by appearing to start a double play on a Terry Pendleton double (causing Smith to get only to 3rd base when he might have scored for the Atlanta Braves). Smith claimed that he lost track of the ball, and that Knoblauch's decoy with shortstop Greg Gagne had little to do with his base-running.
Major League may also refer to:
Major League Baseball (MLB) is a professional baseball league. A total of 30 teams now play in two divisions, the American League (AL) and National League (NL), with 15 teams in each. The AL and NL operated as separate legal entities from 1901 and 1876 respectively, until 2000, when they were merged into a single organization known as Major League Baseball. After cooperating but remaining legally separate entities since 1903, in 2000 the leagues merged into a single organization led by the Commissioner of Baseball. The organization also oversees minor league baseball leagues, which comprise about 240 teams affiliated with the major-league clubs. With the World Baseball Softball Confederation, MLB manages the international World Baseball Classic tournament.
Baseball's first professional team was founded in Cincinnati in 1869. The first few decades of professional baseball were characterized by rivalries between leagues and by players who often jumped from one team or league to another. The period before 1920 in baseball was known as the dead-ball era; players rarely hit home runs during this time. Baseball survived a conspiracy to fix the 1919 World Series, which came to be known as the Black Sox Scandal. The sport rose in popularity in the 1920s, and survived potential downturns during the Great Depression and World War II. Shortly after the war, baseball's color barrier was broken by Jackie Robinson.
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.
The New York Yankees are an American professional baseball team based in the Bronx, New York City, New York, that competes in Major League Baseball (MLB). The Yankees are a member of MLB's American League (AL) East division. The Yankees are one of two Major League clubs based in New York, the other being the New York Mets.
The club began play in the AL in the 1901 season as the Baltimore Orioles (not to be confused with the modern Baltimore Orioles.) Frank Farrell and Bill Devery purchased the franchise (which had ceased operations) and moved it to New York City, renaming the club as the New York Highlanders. The Highlanders were officially renamed as the "Yankees" in 1913.
The team is owned by Yankee Global Enterprises, an LLC controlled by the family of George Steinbrenner, who purchased the team in 1973. Former catcher Joe Girardi is the team's manager, and Brian Cashman is the team's general manager. The team's home games were played at Yankee Stadium from 1923 to 1973 and from 1976 to 2008. In 2009, they moved into a new ballpark of the same name after the previous venue closed. The team is perennially among the leaders in MLB attendance—in 2011, the Yankees had the second-highest attendance.

Retired Major League Baseball player Chuck Knoblauch has been arrested and accused of domestic violence. The Houston native, 46, was charged on Wednesday with assault on a family member and interfering with police duties. According to police, Knoblauch assaulted his wife and left a large bruise on her arm, a larger scratch on the left side of her face and a knot on her forehead. Cheri Knoblauch told authorities her husband was angry that she slept next to her child in a different room rather than next to him. He allegedly grabbed her and smashed her head against a wall before throwing a humidifier at her. Game 1 was a match-up between postseason veterans Al Leiter and Andy Pettitte. Both starters pitched scoreless until the sixth inning when David Justice's two-run double put the Yankees on top. In the top half of the seventh, Pettitte would quickly lose the lead on a barrage of hits, the last by Edgardo Alfonzo to put the Mets on top. However, the Yankees would rally to tie the game on Chuck Knoblauch's sacrifice fly against Mets closer Armando Benítez. José Vizcaíno would drive in Tino Martinez in the twelfth inning with his fourth hit of the game to win it for the Yankees.
There was probably no more dominant team in baseball ever in the last half century than the 1998 Yankees. But the one moment where it seemed like they were in jeopardy of blowing their inevitable march to a 125 win season and World Championship came after they blew Game 2 of the ALCS to the Cleveland Indians thanks to a gaffe by Chuck Knoblauch who ignored the fact that a ball was in play while he argued with an umpire, allowing the go-ahead run to score. This is the opening hour and a half of the Mike and the Mad Dog show on WFAN radio the next day. The Yankees would drop Game 3 of the ALCS and fall behind 2-1 in the series, but then would right themselves and roll off three straight wins for the pennant followed by a four game sweep of the Padres cementing their golden 125 win se...
With the Braves' only hope being a road comeback similar to the 1996 Yankees, Glavine shook off his influenza to start Game 3 at Yankee Stadium. Atlanta was determined to give its ailing starter some support, as Bret Boone doubled three times in the first four innings and every Braves starter had a hit by the fifth. The Yankees' World Series streak appeared finished until Chad Curtis homered in the bottom half of the inning. Tino Martinez and Chuck Knoblauch added home runs, the latter a game-tying shot off Brian Jordan's glove in the eighth. The 6-5 comeback was complete when Curtis homered off Mike Remlinger in the 10th, the first game-ending World Series homer since Joe Carter in 1993.
For Game 5, Brenly started Miguel Batista, who pitched a strong 7 2⁄3 scoreless innings. Mussina bounced back from his poor Game 1 start, but allowed solo home runs to Steve Finley and Rod Barajas in the fifth. With the Diamondbacks leading 2--0 in the ninth, Brenly again went to his closer, and for the second night in a row Byung-Hyun Kim failed to hold the lead. Jorge Posada doubled to open the inning, but Kim retired the next two batters. Then, with two outs in the ninth Scott Brosius hit a 1--0 pitch over the left field wall to tie the game at two. Yankee Stadium erupted after the Brosius home run. For the second straight night, the game went into extra innings following a ninth-inning home run and the Yankees won it in the twelfth when Alfonso Soriano knocked in Chuck Knoblauch with a...
Underdogs or not, the Padres looked like winners for most of Game 1. After six innings, the Padres boasted a 5-2 lead thanks to a pair of home runs from Greg Vaughn and one from Tony Gwynn. What's more, Kevin Brown, their ace pitcher, was on the mound. However, Brown was removed in the bottom of the seventh after permitting a single and a walk. And the very next hitter, Yankees second baseman Chuck Knoblauch, unloaded with a game-tying homer off Padres reliever Donne Wall. After Derek Jeter singled, lefty Mark Langston came in to face Paul O'Neill, who flied out. Two outs, a man on first, tie game, and the Padres were still very much alive. But after a wild pitch and two walks, Tino Martinez cracked a grand-slam home run over the right-field wall, and the Yankees suddenly led 9-5. The fina...

The Twins started their ace, Minnesota native Jack Morris, while the Braves countered with Charlie Leibrandt. Both pitchers had pitched on World Series teams, with Morris winning a World Series ring with the 1984 Detroit Tigers and Leibrandt winning one with the 1985 Kansas City Royals. Leibrandt was the only Braves starter who had World Series experience. Minnesota scored first in the bottom of the third. With two out, leadoff hitter Dan Gladden walked and then stole second. Rookie second baseman Chuck Knoblauch then singled to drive him in, but was caught in a rundown in between first and second and tagged out to end the inning. The Twins added three more runs in the fifth, as shortstop Greg Gagne hit a home run with Kent Hrbek and Scott Leius on base. Leibrandt was pulled from the game...
