Jerry L. Nelson (10 July 1934 – 23 August 2012) was an American puppeteer, best known for his work with The Muppets. Renowned for his wide range of characters and singing abilities, he performed Muppet characters on Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock, and various Muppet movies and specials.
On Sesame Street, Nelson's longest-running character was Count von Count, the counting vampire who took delight in counting anything he could. Nelson did the voice and puppetry for the Count from 1972 until 2012, and continued to provide the Count's voice until his death. His other Muppet roles on that program were The Amazing Mumford, Herry Monster, Biff the Construction worker, Mr. Johnson, Simon Soundman, Mr. Chatterly, Frazzle, the cowboy Forgetful Jones, rock star Little Jerry, and Sherlock Hemlock.
Nelson was the first puppeteer to perform Mr. Snuffle-upagus, keeping the role from 1971 to 1978. Most sources (including Sesame Street Unpaved and Sesame Street: A Celebration – 40 Years of Life on the Street) state that back problems caused by the physical stress of the performance forced him to bow out, but in a 2009 interview Jerry Nelson gave a different explanation for giving up the role: "I was not loath to give that character up. But the reasons for giving it up were because at that time we were doing The Muppet Show and he was a real part of the show, and they needed his presence. So they asked if I'd mind giving it up."

Sesame Street is a long-running American children's television series created by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett. The program is known for its educational content, and images communicated through the use of Jim Henson's Muppets, animation, short films, humor, and cultural references. The series premiered on November 10, 1969, to positive reviews, some controversy, and high viewership; it has aired on the U.S.'s national public television provider (PBS) since its debut, with its first run moving to premium channel HBO on January 16, 2016.
The show has undergone significant changes throughout its history. The format of Sesame Street consists of a combination of commercial television production elements and techniques which have evolved to reflect the changes in American culture and the audience's viewing habits. With the creation of Sesame Street, producers and writers of a children's television show used, for the first time, educational goals and a curriculum to shape its content. It was also the first time a show's educational effects were studied.

Apart from the sexual liaisons, he's at constant odds with the network. When Greg begins to recover and wants to take back his reign, he gets considerable resistance from Robin. Jerry Nelson, the puppeteer behind Count Von Count on Sesame Street, as well as dozens of other characters, has died at the age of 78.
It's one thing to mourn the passing of a human cast member, as The Street did with such class when Mr. Hooper (Will Lee) died in 1982, but how to deal with the loss of a beloved Muppeteer? By paying tribute to his best known and loved creation, The Count von Count. From 2013, the wacky and wonderful tribute to Jerry Nelson (1934-2012). Not new to YouTube, just filling a hole. He doesn't get the props he deserves, IMHO. Older fans will recognize the "I am The Count!" scene as a parody of the "I am Spartacus!" scene from the 1960 movie, "Spartacus", starring Kirk Douglas. A tribute to beloved Muppeteer Jerry Nelson, who is no longer with us. :( RIP, Jerry. You were a great Muppeteer, and you've performed many memorable characters. We're gonna miss you, Jerry. :( The song I used is "When The River Meets The Sea" from "Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas", in which Jerry himself is one of the vocals.

I thought this video was already on youtube, but I couldn't find it. I feel, especially since the passing of Mr. Nelson, the muppet fans deserve to see this. This took place at the memorial held for Jim Henson on May 21, 1990 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC. I was at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World watching the 'Electrical Parade' when I got a text from my brother telling me Jerry Nelson had passed away. He was all I could think about for the rest of the trip. The next day, in tribute to Jerry, I went to see Muppet Vision 3D three times. I could be wrong, but it seems Mr. Nelson wasn't involved in that project. I didn't see his characters or hear his voice. Anyway, he was a great man. I got his autograph about 6 years ago that I will cherish always. I am so happy for ...

I had this made at the time of his death but I forgot to upload it. And I barely noticed it today lol so I decided to upload it now and pay tribute to one of my favorite Sesame Street performers Jerry Nelson.
For Jerry, music came as naturally as walking. He started piano lessons at age seven; by age ten, and still barely able to reach the pedals, Jerry was designated pianist in a tiny Minnesota church. Directing its orchestra (of three players), it was a quantum leap, a few years later, to recording with the London Orchestra. Though composer of several dozen songs and musicals, he considers himself more of an "Arranger" with some 6,000 arrangements spanning a fulfilling career.

Muppet performer Jerry Nelson is well-known across the Muppet fan circles not only for his advanced vocal range, but his equally advanced singing voice. This is one of two audio recordings from 2007 (several years before he recorded Truro Daydreams), of Jerry performing at the (now on hiatus) "Ukulele Disco" cabaret, with Bill Evaul accompanying on the double bass. There was video available of the songs on the show's website, but are now seemingly lost as the site is now defunct. Shortly after Jerry passed away in 2012, the MP3 recordings of "Carioca" and "All My Life" were leaked on the Muppet Central forums and the songs were routinely played on Muppet Central Radio for several months. I was one of the lucky few Muppet fans to snag this MP3 before its link expired. I am not uploading th...

The Mad Bomber 3. Unknown Baabian Kid (not a muppet character, with similar voice to Jerry Nelson, but not the same actor and is not Kip Supernova. Also circled on the center of the picture to show the right kind of Baabian who has the voice by someone else.) 4. First off, I'd like to state that I do not own any of the clips that were used. But this was just my way to pay tribute and to say thanks to the man who taught me how to count. Jerry Nelson's legacy is something to mourn and laugh about, which is what I wanted to do for this video. It starts off with a clip from one of the lost Jim Henson Hour episodes where the muppeteers get exposed and Jerry Nelson is introduced. Then, we hear Robin singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" featuring clips of his ever popular characters. Not to mention cameo apperances and behind the scenes footages. After the mournful part of the video, JN gets carried away by Sweetums! Followed by some adlibs from an "Emmett Otter" outtake. You will never be forgotten, Mr. Nelson. But you're in a better place now....

The other day I met a girl named Joy
She said come here,
I'm gonna make you my joy boy
Well, things went good and things went bad
Now everytime I think of Joy
It makes me sad
It makes me... sad
The other day I met a girl named Joy
She said Roy!
I'm gonna make you my joy boy
Well, she took me for a ride
Sort of a joy ride
Now everytime I thik of Joy
I get all weird inside
Oh, Joy to the world
Was a beautiful girl
But to me Joy meant only sorrow
Now--if you haven't got an answer
Then you haven't got a question
And if you never had a question
Then you'd never have a problem
But if you never had a problem
Well, everyone would be happy
But if everyone was happy
There'd never be a love song
Joy was a beautiful girl
But to me Joy meant only sorrow
The other day I met a girl named Joy
She said, Come here,
I wanna make you feel all clammy inside
Things went good good and things went bad
Things went good... things went bad
Good, bad, good, bad, good, bad
Joy to the world
Was a beautiful girl
But to me Joy meant only sorrow
Oh, Joy to the world
Was a beautiful girl
But to me Joy meant only sorrow
Joy, I know you're out there
