Ghana (i/ˈɡɑːnə/), officially called the Republic of Ghana, is a sovereign unitary presidential constitutional democracy, located along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean, in the subregion of West Africa. Spanning a land mass of 238,535 km2, Ghana is bordered by the Ivory Coast in the west, Burkina Faso in the north, Togo in the east and the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean in the south. The word Ghana means "Warrior King" in Mande.
The territory of present-day Ghana has been inhabited for millennia, with the first permanent state dating back to the 11th century. Numerous kingdoms and empires emerged over the centuries, of which the most powerful was the Kingdom of Ashanti. Beginning in the 15th century, numerous European powers contested the area for trading rights, with the British ultimately establishing control of the coast by the late 19th century. Following over a century of native resistance, Ghana's current borders were established by the 1900s as the British Gold Coast. In 1957, it became the first sub-saharan African nation to declare independence from European colonisation.

The newly produced series ‘Aid or Trade?’ shows that aid is no longer about transferring money or shipping goods. It’s rather about setting up sustainable companies, while taking local constraints and the environment into account. An article in the Economist recently stated 'Western governments should open up to trade rather than just dish out aid … Autocracy, corruption and strife will not disappear overnight. But at a dark time for the world economy, Africa’s progress is a reminder of the transformative promise of growth.' This 5 episode-series 'Aid or Trade?' (5 x 14 minutes) shows an optimistic and nuanced perspective and portrays successful combinations and collaborations. The program highlights high-potential or successful initiatives: often collaboration between NGO’s, private, and...

NARRATOR One of the key factors that creates inclusion and fairness for the poor is justice in the courts, or what is often referred to by development economists as the rule of law. MUHAMMAD YUNUS Rule of law is that I know what I am, what is the rights and responsibilities around me, and it’s protected. That’s the rule of law; otherwise, it’s a jungle. The most powerful one will take everything. And that’s not a good idea for human society. HERNANDO DE SOTO Try and imagine a football match without rules. You don’t get a game going. The rules are crucial to get that game going. But everybody knows how to drive a ball; everybody knows how to buy and sell, so there is plenty of entrepreneurship ability in the world. The problems are the rules. In two-thirds of the world there isn’t yet the...

Yeboah International Farms is 600-acre farm that grows mangoes, cashews, and maize. We are prepared to put 4000 Ghanaians to work growing and harvesting the crops that grow right here: the crops that the world wants. We believe this is the most sustainable way to bring long-term employment to Ghanians, and help our country as a whole. Mangoes are one our biggest exports thus we have developed 14/607 acres and we simply can’t produce enough to keep up with demand. It’s got to the point where one of our biggest processing and production manufacturers is having to airlift the fruit in from Brazil, Mali and South Africa at a vast cost just to keep going and that is where we want to change the game. Yeboah International Farms owns more than 607 acres of prime farm land in a country that has s...

Our intuition on how the world works could well be wrong. We are surprised when new competitors burst on the scene, or businesses protected by large and deep moats find their defenses easily breached, or vast new markets are conjured from nothing. Trend lines resemble saw-tooth mountain ridges. The world not only feels different. The data tell us it is different. Based on years of research by the directors of the McKinsey Global Institute, No Ordinary Disruption: The Four Forces Breaking all the Trends is a timely and important analysis of how we need to reset our intuition as a result of four forces colliding and transforming the global economy: the rise of emerging markets, the accelerating impact of technology on the natural forces of market competition, an aging world population, and ...
THE COCA-COLA COMPANY – DELIVERING SAFE WATER FOR AFRICA West Africa in particular faces significant barriers to growth, despite the GDPs of this region’s countries growing faster than the global average. More West Africans lack access to water today than 20 years ago, and coordinated action is needed to address this challenge. To address this need, The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation (TCCAF), a philanthropic arm of TCCC in Africa, and Diageo launched the Safe Water for Africa (SWA) program in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone to provide access to a safe, sustainable water supply in the region. The SWA partnership is a private sector-led initiative based on the use of an innovative and, most importantly, self-sustaining model of water provision. WaterHealth International (WHI) install...

Examining themes of fashion and consumption, we will present durational performances and installation works in this former furniture store's windows. Questions regarding the relationship of art and commerce today are myriad, and while there are no simple answers, most observers agree that there are many troubling implications of the influences of speculation, branding and celebrity on the current climate. Giving away the aesthetic experience through such a temporary event is a return to earlier, more idealistic times, yet placing the work within a shopping district anchors it to the realistic present. We imagine this to be an exciting event which will attract art audiences, as well as provide an unusual experience to passers-by. Jordan Biren and Corrina Peipon present a tableau/performan...

Health care delivery in Ghana leaves much to be desired especially in the rural areas. The country continues to record high infant and maternal mortality. Many people also die easily from preventable or treatable diseases. The situation has raised concerns on where Ghana stands with regard to provision of quality health care. Stakeholders are calling for more strict regulations in the practice of medicine in order to reduce mortality resulting from negligence of health practitioners.
This video is about Malaria Prevention in Humjibre, Ghana
In Ghana, the Grameen Foundation is using mobile applications to improve the quality of maternal health and childcare. With the MOTECH Mobile Midwife program, pregnant women can register and receive voice messages that provide reliable advice for a health pregnancy. Smartphones are also used to record health services delivered.

In spite of some successes chalked by the Ghana Health Service with the implementation of a Universal Health care system, Ghana is far from achieving Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5 which target the reduction of child mortality and improved maternal health care delivery. The Ghana Health Service is working to improve health care delivery this year.

Partnering with Jarratt Best (Public Engagement Officer with SickKids Foundation in Toronto), I was given the opportunity to create several videos that spoke to the issues facing children's health and health care in the developing world and what SickKids Foundation was doing with partners in these countries. This video was filmed in Ghana when we spent 10 days there in Accra and in Kpedze-Todze (Volta region) where we were graciously invited to spend a day with the children of that village. The concept was to present the contrasting stats & figures of children's health care between Canada and Ghana, spoken by the children of Ghana themselves and by the people who are making a difference to eliminate these disparities. This is the 1st of several videos we are producing from that trip. ...

And in the soft grey matter, Contained within the head. SYNOPSIS: As technological progress pushes forward in the overdeveloped world, enormous piles of obsolete computers are thrown away and recycled. Pushed out of sight and sent to the coast of West Africa these computers end up in waste grounds such as Agbogbloshie in Accra, Ghana. Approximately 290,000 people are currently living with HIV/AIDS in Ghana. For every one reported case, there are four unreported cases. In Ghana and many parts of Africa, HIV/AIDS is associated with promiscuity due to a lack of education regarding the modes of transmission of the virus. As a result, women living with the virus are stigmatized and are treated as the outcasts of society. Many women with HIV are kicked out of their households and abandoned by their families. They have no financial or emotional support and cannot afford their anti-retroviral drugs, which prevent mother-to-child transmission. These drugs cost 5 Ghana Cedis per month, equivalent to about 3 US dollars. Please watch this film and support the work of the West African AIDS Foundation, an organization empowering wome...

The United Nations recently stated that the entire Western half of the country has now been cleansed of Muslims. Ghana is on high alert over possible terror threats. A memo from Ghana's Immigration Service says the country is the next target for Islamist militants. They say Togo too is apparently at risk. This follows high-profile attacks this year in Burkina Faso and Cote d'Ivoire. The memo says the National Security Council Secretariat has evidence from neighbouring Cote d'Ivoire from the interrogation of a man suspected of orchestrating the attack on March 13 in which 18 people were killed. It has also ordered immigration agents on the northern border with Burkina Faso to be extra alert and said patrols should be stepped up along informal routes between the two countries. President John Mahama is calling on people to be vigilant.

You’ll Be SHOCKED Once You Find This Out! While your Mainstream Media continues to distract you with the upcoming “elections” and alleged-suspected “terrorists,” the United Nations (U.N.) has just recently approved the use of force in order to protect civilians in the event of armed conflicts. In fact, U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power has even said at a U.N. meeting back in May 2016 that the U.S. is “proud” to be joining with the U.N. “Peacekeepers” — in order to “act” in case civilians are ever in danger. In preparation for civil unrest, staged rioting and upheaval, and finally, Martial Law... Along with the U.S., these 29 nations are set to act under the Kigali Principles in times of conflict. Ghana Travel Guide - Ghana is a very friendly country, ideal for first time travellers to Africa, the people are generally very helpful and welcoming. While their laidback attitude and lack of organized tourist sights/trips can be a little annoying to begin with, before you have been there for very long you realize that it is one of the delights of this country. There is archaeological evidence which shows that humans have lived in what is present day Ghana from about 1500 BC. Oral tradition has it that many of Ghana's current ethnic groups such as the multi-ethnic Akan, the Ga and the Ewe arrived around the 13th Century AD. The Travel Industry in Ghana is growing very quickly, and more tour operators are seeing increased requests for Ghana as a travel destination. Ghana is also rich in...

http://www.expressoshow.com/ Graeme heads to the iconic Kaneshie Market in Accra/Ghana, to give us his survival guide for an African market. We cover various shopping tips as he explores this bustling environment. Firstly, know what you’re after and when the best time is to get it. Haggle on the price (when this is an accepted custom of the region), know your currency and value of the exchange rate. Be aware of your personal belongings, and remember your bearings (as not to get lost when you’ve finished shopping).

In 2008 a small team of us traveled to Ghana, West Africa. Our Canadian friend Paul was already living in Accra and felt there was real potential for tourism in this part of the world. We thought there might be a chance for us to shoot some footage of West Africa with a positive slant - something missing and seldom seen through most media. We proposed to the Ghanaian tourism board a 22-minute promotional video showcasing travel potential around the country. They loved the idea. They supplied us with a vehicle, a guide, and a signed letter from the minister of tourism - essentially, the keys to the country. The promotional tourism video was successfully completed shortly after returning to Canada. I wanted to edit a second video that showed more of the personal side of our trip. This video...
Imagine soaring through desert and mountain terrain more than a thousand feet above the ground – and not in a plane or helicopter. Instead of hiking or bike riding down trails, Bootleg Canyon Flightlines’ zip-line tour in Boulder City allows adventure seekers to “fly” and get a whole new perspective on the beautiful desert valley below. “These unique aerial trails attract, educate and amaze people,” said Ian Green, co-founder of the GreenHeart Conservation Company. “[It] allows them to follow the path of a bird. You will not find a more exhilarating trail in the world.” While Las Vegas provides several extreme outdoor adventures, Bootleg Canyon Flightlines proves to be one of a kind. “This ride is aided by nature,” said Green. “The freedom of silent flight – unless you like to scream –...

Senegal-Ghana
The trees were all decked out in their best fall colors
There was a snap in the air
When you eased down the window
And the New York sun brought out the highlights in your
hair
And gently, gently
The constellations aligned
And as we crossed over the Frogneck's Bridge
I had something on my mind
When we rolled down the street
In the cool of the morning
I could feel the new day dawn
And somebody had gone and turned the waterworks on
And slowly, surely
I saw the whole story unwind
I had never loved anyone like I loved you
And I had something on my mind
