From Indoor Swimming Pool to Hawaiian Waves

10. Layered Illusion
These colorful, layered illusions are popping up all over the place, but very little is known about their artist: someone who goes by the name of 1010. His signature style is to layer colors on top of one another in order to create an illusion of depth. His illusions are turning urban landscapes into incredible colorful caverns, but where they lead is just as mysterious as the artist himself.
9. Melting Paris
From a distance, it looks like the plaster--even the windows and metalwork--is melting in the sun, right into the street below. The new facade brought surrealism to life and is the work of Pierre Delavie. Amazingly, this is all the work of illusion photography. An image of the building was distorted using Photoshop and then set over the building’s actual facade. This illusion stayed in place for an entire year in 2007.
8. Indoor Swimming Pool
This installation was put in place by famous artist Leandro Erlich. There’s no need to worry, the people in the swimming pool aren’t in danger of drowning--in fact, they’re in an empty room, viewing the people above them. The illusion is created by suspending water between two transparent sheets of glass, only about 10cm thick. This way, it feels like you might dive right into the pool and swim to the people below, when in reality, you could walk across the pool safely.
7. Nelson Mandela
Viewed from its side, this sculpture appears to be nothing special. It is simply a collection of black poles or pipes. However, if you view them from the correct angle, they form the face of Nelson Mandela, a famous politician from South Africa. The sculpture can be found in South Africa, on the same spot where Mandela was arrested. This illusion is both striking and powerful, made up of a total of fifty unattached columns.
6. Tree, Line
Zander Olsen’s photography project had a simple enough idea: wrap the trunks of trees to blend in with the horizon line behind them. Who knew the effect would be so incredible? By creating this relationship between the horizon and the trees directly in front of the camera, Olsen blends foreground with background and almost seems to make the sections disappear entirely.
5. Hawaiian Waves
The story behind this larger-than-life illusion goes that while the artist, John Pugh, was working on this mural, a fire truck pulled up in order to rescue the children standing above the door. He had painted the children staring in awe at the wave, but had not yet painted the stairs you see now. Would you believe us if we told you that, in fact, the entire side of the building you see is perfectly flat? Even the two square windows to the right of the wave are painted on and if you look closely enough, there is a man standing in the top window, peering out at the surfer!
4. Cup of Coffee
Manfred Stader specializes in a type of art called hyperrealism. This giant illusion is a perfect example, you can almost smell the freshly brewed coffee. Through an amazing talent, he was able to make it look as though the cup is made of real porcelain and there really could be a giant metal spool balancing on the saucer. In reality, the only real thing about this cup of coffee are the coffee grounds Stader is pouring across the foam.
3. Russian Caves
As part of a series, Edgar Muller turned the streets of major cities into gorgeous lake-filled caverns. Covering over 100 square meters, this incredible illusion is another testament to Muller’s work. With this series of nature-inspired illusions, Mueller makes the viewer feel as though they can see right into the center of the Earth.
2. Flying Tree
Many street artists make attempts to add to their environments, but Daniel Siering and Mario Shu are taking something away. These incredibly talented street artists have used foil and cans of plain, old spray paint to create this fascinating illusion. By painting the image of the cloudy sky on the midsection of the tree, which has been covered in tin foil, these artists give the illusion that this massive tree is floating in midair.

This illusion, designed by François Abélanet, is so well-executed that even after some careful study, it is still difficult to figure out. Although it appears compact, the globe park is actually a massive installation, spanning over 300 feet in length. It took 90 people and five days to complete. It was designed using the idea of anamorphosis, which requires it to be viewed only from one, particular angle in order to look normal. From any other angle, this jaw-dropping illusion appears to be a segmented grass dog park.

My teachers in school hated manga art, but it got worse at university :'D So this video features an anecdote, an experience I had with an exam I had a while a go. :) Anyway, I have to study art to teach art in school, not just art for its own sake ^^

The setting was already intriguing. A Greek from Pontus, living in Athens is a luthier of some of the best Spanish guitars. His name is Vassilis and he is not only an accomplished luthier but also a charming human. We spend 3 days with him in his small and packed lab in Athens, where we learned a lot, laughed a lot and in general had a great time. The end result combined with the music of Edstard left everyone more than satisfied.

This is where it all began. It was our first attempt to design and produce one of our ideas for a film. Having done the shooting, we were not happy with the result and so we had to scrap the initial idea and start all over. We experimented and improvised with the music, the editing and the graphics until we felt we had something. Having no expectations, we posted it on vimeo. The feedback was quick and overwhelming. People’s comments from around the world, gave us the motivation to continue with more films for the series.

Art

The Art
The Art (sometimes stylised as THEART) are an Australian Alternative Rock band based in Sydney. They began performing under the name The Follow in 2004. Tasmanian band leader Azaria Byrne was known as an unsuccessful contestant on the reality television series Popstars.
Early highlights for the band's career have been supporting successful bands such as the Pixies, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Sonic Youth and Thirty Seconds to Mars as late as 2010, however this was marred by the crowd booing and calls to "get off the stage".
As band leader Azaria Byrne enters middle age success has so far eluded him despite media attention resulting from his being cuckolded by the even older fading celebrity Bill Corgan.
The other band members have all been described as "dull" but this could also be a result of the attention seeking behavior of their singer.

Got Talent
Got Talent is a talent show television format conceived and owned by Simon Cowell's SYCOtv company. A pilot was made in the United Kingdom in 2005, hosted by Paul O'Grady, but after O'Grady's split with ITV, the series was postponed, resulting in America's Got Talent – the first full series of the format.
It has spawned spin-offs in over 58 countries (as of April 2014), in what is now referred to as the Got Talent format, similar to that described by FremantleMedia of the Idol and The X Factor formats. In April 2014, the format was named the world's most successful reality TV format ever by the Guinness World Records.
History
Got Talent was an invention by The X Factor creator Simon Cowell, with comedian and talk show host Paul O'Grady producing a pilot for ITV in 2005 under the provisional title Paul O'Grady's Got Talent. O'Grady left the network after disputes with ITV, resulting in Cowell moving the concept to the United States while he and ITV searched for a new show host.
Due to these issues, the Got Talent franchise ended up debuting first as America's Got Talent on NBC on 21 June 2006, with judges David Hasselhoff, Brandy Norwood, and Piers Morgan. The show's original series was hosted by Regis Philbin. In 2016, the judging panel consisted of Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Melanie Brown, and Simon Cowell, and hosted by Nick Cannon, who has been the presenter since 2009. The grand prize on America's Got Talent is $1 million, and, since season 3, a chance to headline a show on the Las Vegas Strip. America's Got Talent proved extremely successful for NBC, pulling in high ratings in both total viewers and the younger 18-49 demographic. The show's initial success in America is credited with the eventual launch of the British series, and the overall global launch of the Got Talent franchise.

His name is Vassilis and he is not only an accomplished luthier but also a charming human. This is where it all began. It was our first attempt to design and produce one of our ideas for a film. Having done the shooting, we were not happy with the result and so we had to scrap the initial idea and start all over. Invented by Garrett Brown in the early 70's, the steadicam shot -- or 'steadishot' -- has become one of the most dynamic and exciting forms of cinematography and is one of the most engaging visual techniques in a filmmaker's storytelling arsenal. I was inspired to make this homage to the art of steadicam cinematography when browsing the database of "top" clips over at www.steadishots.org, which are rated by the community. These colorful, layered illusions are popping up all over the place, but very little is known about their artist: someone who goes by the name of 1010. His signature style is to layer colors on top of one another in order to create an illusion of depth. His illusions are turning urban landscapes into incredible colorful caverns, but where they lead is just as mysterious as the artist himself.

From a distance, it looks like the plaster--even the windows and metalwork--is melting in the sun, right into the street below. The new facade brought surrealism to life and is the work of Pierre Delavie. Amazingly, this is all the work of illusion photography. An image of the building was distorted using Photoshop and then set over the building’s actual facade. This illusion stayed in place for an entire year in 2007.
8. Indoor Swimming Pool
This installation was put in place by famous artist Leandro Erlich. There’s no need to worry, the people in the swimming pool aren’t in danger of drowning--in fact, they’re in an empty room, viewing the people above them. The illusion is created by suspending water between two transparent sheets of glass, only about 10cm thick. This way, it feels like you might dive right into the pool and swim to the people below, when in reality, you could walk across the pool safely.
7. Nelson Mandela
Viewed from its side, this sculpture appears to be nothing special. It is simply a collection of black poles or pipes. However, if you view them from the correct angle, they form the face of Nelson Mandela, a famous politician from South Africa. The sculpture can be found in South Africa, on the same spot where Mandela was arrested. This illusion is both striking and powerful, made up of a total of fifty unattached columns.
6. Tree, Line
Zander Olsen’s photography project had a simple enough idea: wrap the trunks of trees to blend in with the horizon line behind them. Who knew the effect would be so incredible? By creating this relationship between the horizon and the trees directly in front of the camera, Olsen blends foreground with background and almost seems to make the sections disappear entirely.
5. Hawaiian Waves
The story behind this larger-than-life illusion goes that while the artist, John Pugh, was working on this mural, a fire truck pulled up in order to rescue the children standing above the door. He had painted the children staring in awe at the wave, but had not yet painted the stairs you see now. Would you believe us if we told you that, in fact, the entire side of the building you see is perfectly flat? Even the two square windows to the right of the wave are painted on and if you look closely enough, there is a man standing in the top window, peering out at the surfer!
4. Cup of Coffee
Manfred Stader specializes in a type of art called hyperrealism. This giant illusion is a perfect example, you can almost smell the freshly brewed coffee. Through an amazing talent, he was able to make it look as though the cup is made of real porcelain and there really could be a giant metal spool balancing on the saucer. In reality, the only real thing about this cup of coffee are the coffee grounds Stader is pouring across the foam.
3. Russian Caves
As part of a series, Edgar Muller turned the streets of major cities into gorgeous lake-filled caverns. Covering over 100 square meters, this incredible illusion is another testament to Muller’s work. With this series of nature-inspired illusions, Mueller makes the viewer feel as though they can see right into the center of the Earth.
2. Flying Tree
Many street artists make attempts to add to their environments, but Daniel Siering and Mario Shu are taking something away. These incredibly talented street artists have used foil and cans of plain, old spray paint to create this fascinating illusion. By painting the image of the cloudy sky on the midsection of the tree, which has been covered in tin foil, these artists give the illusion that this massive tree is floating in midair.
1. The Grass Globe
This illusion, designed by François Abélanet, is so well-executed that even after some careful study, it is still difficult to figure out. Although it appears compact, the globe park is actually a massive installation, spanning over 300 feet in length. It took 90 people and five days to complete. It was designed using the idea of anamorphosis, which requires it to be viewed only from one, particular angle in order to look normal. From any other angle, this jaw-dropping illusion appears to be a segmented grass dog park.

Through an amazing talent, he was able to make it look as though the cup is made of real porcelain and there really could be a giant metal spool balancing on the saucer. In reality, the only real thing about this cup of coffee are the coffee grounds Stader is pouring across the foam.
3. Russian Caves
As part of a series, Edgar Muller turned the streets of major cities into gorgeous lake-filled caverns. Covering over 100 square meters, this incredible illusion is another testament to Muller’s work. With this series of nature-inspired illusions, Mueller makes the viewer feel as though they can see right into the center of the Earth.
2. Flying Tree
Many street artists make attempts to add to their environments, but Daniel Siering and Mario Shu are taking something away. These incredibly talented street artists have used foil and cans of plain, old spray paint to create this fascinating illusion. By painting the image of the cloudy sky on the midsection of the tree, which has been covered in tin foil, these artists give the illusion that this massive tree is floating in midair.
1. The Grass Globe
This illusion, designed by François Abélanet, is so well-executed that even after some careful study, it is still difficult to figure out. Although it appears compact, the globe park is actually a massive installation, spanning over 300 feet in length. It took 90 people and five days to complete. It was designed using the idea of anamorphosis, which requires it to be viewed only from one, particular angle in order to look normal. From any other angle, this jaw-dropping illusion appears to be a segmented grass dog park.

We spend 3 days with him in his small and packed lab in Athens, where we learned a lot, laughed a lot and in general had a great time. The end result combined with the music of Edstard left everyone more than satisfied.

Having done the shooting, we were not happy with the result and so we had to scrap the initial idea and start all over. Invented by Garrett Brown in the early 70's, the steadicam shot -- or 'steadishot' -- has become one of the most dynamic and exciting forms of cinematography and is one of the most engaging visual techniques in a filmmaker's storytelling arsenal.
I was inspired to make this homage to the art of steadicam cinematography when browsing the database of "top" clips over at www.steadishots.org, which are rated by the community. After locating what sources I could from the top 50 or so, I decided to stick with the order presented on the site (accurate as of March 1, 2013).

Glassworks Amsterdam is very proud to have collaborated with the G-Star in-house creative team to realize the Art of RAW campaign film. Till now the global campaigns of the brand were based on iconic print advertisements, shot by one of the biggest names in photography Anton Corbijn, featuring talents like Liv Tyler, Magnus Carlsen and Gemma Arterton.
We were therefore extremely excited when G-Star approached Glassworks to realize their first ever campaign commercial which will run online and in cinemas across the globe. Since the brand took a break from conventional advertising in their market, this was a great opportunity for the two brand’s expertise to meet: denim and high-end digital animation and visual effects.
The result was a dramatic, fully CGI, macro-level journey through the denim-making process. G-Star's creative team created the concept for the video and collaborated with our in-house CGI director Rudiger Kaltenhauser, who created the magical and moody world for the film, provided that it remained faithful to the core processes involved in creating their world-famous RAW denim. We were completely sold when we knew the challenge was to create a film with a photo-real running skeleton dog and that it would have the soundtrack by US super-producer Skrillex.
Rudiger storyboarded the action treatments, designed the style frames, edited the cut, and then led our team of lighting/texturing TD's and animators in bringing everything to life. There were many challenges, not least of all creating CGI denim that reflects the fabric the brand is so passionate about. The team also took on the challenge to create a texturing/lighting setup that allowed the beauty of each step of the denim making process to be clearly understood but also live up to the expectations of the G-Star denim specialists.
Cut from the 60" film, a 15" teaser was screened to launch their show at the Bread & Butter fair in Berlin last month, and whilst the full-length film will be playing on their website, you can see the 30" in cinemas and throughout their stores globally. The CGI skeleton dog is the leading visual throughout the Art of RAW print campaign and you might even be able to race him yourself in the Hong Kong subway!

The setting was already intriguing. A Greek from Pontus, living in Athens is a luthier of some of the best Spanish guitars. His name is Vassilis and he is not only an accomplished luthier but also a charming human. We spend 3 days with him in his small and packed lab in Athens, where we learned a lot, laughed a lot and in general had a great time. This is where it all began. It was our first attempt to design and produce one of our ideas for a film. Having done the shooting, we were not happy with the result and so we had to scrap the initial idea and start all over. We experimented and improvised with the music, the editing and the graphics until we felt we had something. Having no expectations, we posted it on vimeo. The feedback was quick and overwhelming. Invented by Garrett Brown in the early 70's, the steadicam shot -- or 'steadishot' -- has become one of the most dynamic and exciting forms of cinematography and is one of the most engaging visual techniques in a filmmaker's storytelling arsenal. I was inspired to make this homage to the art of steadicam cinematography when browsing the database of "top" clips over at www.steadishots.org, which are rated by the community. 10. Layered Illusion
These colorful, layered illusions are popping up all over the place, but very little is known about their artist: someone who goes by the name of 1010. His signature style is to layer colors on top of one another in order to create an illusion of depth. His illusions are turning urban landscapes into incredible colorful caverns, but where they lead is just as mysterious as the artist himself.
9. Melting Paris
From a distance, it looks like the plaster--even the windows and metalwork--is melting in the sun, right into the street below. The new facade brought surrealism to life and is the work of Pierre Delavie. Amazingly, this is all the work of illusion photography. An image of the building was distorted using Photoshop and then set over the building’s actual facade. This illusion stayed in place for an entire year in 2007.
8. Indoor Swimming Pool
This installation was put in place by famous artist Leandro Erlich. There’s no need to worry, the people in the swimming pool aren’t in danger of drowning--in fact, they’re in an empty room, viewing the people above them. The illusion is created by suspending water between two transparent sheets of glass, only about 10cm thick. This way, it feels like you might dive right into the pool and swim to the people below, when in reality, you could walk across the pool safely.
7. Nelson Mandela
Viewed from its side, this sculpture appears to be nothing special. It is simply a collection of black poles or pipes. However, if you view them from the correct angle, they form the face of Nelson Mandela, a famous politician from South Africa. The sculpture can be found in South Africa, on the same spot where Mandela was arrested. This illusion is both striking and powerful, made up of a total of fifty unattached columns.
6. Tree, Line
Zander Olsen’s photography project had a simple enough idea: wrap the trunks of trees to blend in with the horizon line behind them. Who knew the effect would be so incredible? By creating this relationship between the horizon and the trees directly in front of the camera, Olsen blends foreground with background and almost seems to make the sections disappear entirely.
5. Hawaiian Waves
The story behind this larger-than-life illusion goes that while the artist, John Pugh, was working on this mural, a fire truck pulled up in order to rescue the children standing above the door. He had painted the children staring in awe at the wave, but had not yet painted the stairs you see now. Would you believe us if we told you that, in fact, the entire side of the building you see is perfectly flat? Even the two square windows to the right of the wave are painted on and if you look closely enough, there is a man standing in the top window, peering out at the surfer!
4. Cup of Coffee
Manfred Stader specializes in a type of art called hyperrealism. This giant illusion is a perfect example, you can almost smell the freshly brewed coffee. Through an amazing talent, he was able to make it look as though the cup is made of real porcelain and there really could be a giant metal spool balancing on the saucer. In reality, the only real thing about this cup of coffee are the coffee grounds Stader is pouring across the foam.
3. Russian Caves
As part of a series, Edgar Muller turned the streets of major cities into gorgeous lake-filled caverns. Covering over 100 square meters, this incredible illusion is another testament to Muller’s work. With this series of nature-inspired illusions, Mueller makes the viewer feel as though they can see right into the center of the Earth.
2. Flying Tree
Many street artists make attempts to add to their environments, but Daniel Siering and Mario Shu are taking something away. These incredibly talented street artists have used foil and cans of plain, old spray paint to create this fascinating illusion. By painting the image of the cloudy sky on the midsection of the tree, which has been covered in tin foil, these artists give the illusion that this massive tree is floating in midair.
1. The Grass Globe
This illusion, designed by François Abélanet, is so well-executed that even after some careful study, it is still difficult to figure out. Although it appears compact, the globe park is actually a massive installation, spanning over 300 feet in length. It took 90 people and five days to complete. It was designed using the idea of anamorphosis, which requires it to be viewed only from one, particular angle in order to look normal. From any other angle, this jaw-dropping illusion appears to be a segmented grass dog park.

The setting was already intriguing. A Greek from Pontus, living in Athens is a luthier of some of the best Spanish guitars. His name is Vassilis and he is not only an accomplished luthier but also a charming human. We spend 3 days with him in his small and packed lab in Athens, where we learned a lot, laughed a lot and in general had a great time. The end result combined with the music of Edstard left everyone more than satisfied.

Having done the shooting, we were not happy with the result and so we had to scrap the initial idea and start all over. We experimented and improvised with the music, the editing and the graphics until we felt we had something. Having no expectations, we posted it on vimeo. The feedback was quick and overwhelming. People’s comments from around the world, gave us the motivation to continue with more films for the series.

Invented by Garrett Brown in the early 70's, the steadicam shot -- or 'steadishot' -- has become one of the most dynamic and exciting forms of cinematography and is one of the most engaging visual techniques in a filmmaker's storytelling arsenal.
I was inspired to make this homage to the art of steadicam cinematography when browsing the database of "top" clips over at www.steadishots.org, which are rated by the community. After locating what sources I could from the top 50 or so, I decided to stick with the order presented on the site (accurate as of March 1, 2013).

Glassworks Amsterdam is very proud to have collaborated with the G-Star in-house creative team to realize the Art of RAW campaign film. Till now the global campaigns of the brand were based on iconic print advertisements, shot by one of the biggest names in photography Anton Corbijn, featuring talents like Liv Tyler, Magnus Carlsen and Gemma Arterton.
We were therefore extremely excited when G-Star approached Glassworks to realize their first ever campaign commercial which will run online and in cinemas across the globe. Since the brand took a break from conventional advertising in their market, this was a great opportunity for the two brand’s expertise to meet: denim and high-end digital animation and visual effects.
The result was a dramatic, fully CGI, macro-level journey through the denim-making process. G-Star's creative team created the concept for the video and collaborated with our in-house CGI director Rudiger Kaltenhauser, who created the magical and moody world for the film, provided that it remained faithful to the core processes involved in creating their world-famous RAW denim. We were completely sold when we knew the challenge was to create a film with a photo-real running skeleton dog and that it would have the soundtrack by US super-producer Skrillex.
Rudiger storyboarded the action treatments, designed the style frames, edited the cut, and then led our team of lighting/texturing TD's and animators in bringing everything to life. There were many challenges, not least of all creating CGI denim that reflects the fabric the brand is so passionate about. The team also took on the challenge to create a texturing/lighting setup that allowed the beauty of each step of the denim making process to be clearly understood but also live up to the expectations of the G-Star denim specialists.
Cut from the 60" film, a 15" teaser was screened to launch their show at the Bread & Butter fair in Berlin last month, and whilst the full-length film will be playing on their website, you can see the 30" in cinemas and throughout their stores globally. The CGI skeleton dog is the leading visual throughout the Art of RAW print campaign and you might even be able to race him yourself in the Hong Kong subway!
