Iran (/aɪˈræn/ or i/ɪˈrɑːn/;Persian: Irān – ایران [ʔiːˈɾɒːn]), also known as Persia (/ˈpɜːrʒə/ or /ˈpɜːrʃə/), officially the Islamic Republic of Iran (جمهوری اسلامی ایران – Jomhuri ye Eslāmi ye Irān [d͡ʒomhuːˌɾije eslɒːˌmije ʔiːˈɾɒːn]), is a country in Western Asia. It is bordered to the northwest by Armenia, the de facto Nagorno-Karabakh, and Azerbaijan; with Kazakhstan and Russia across the Caspian Sea; to the northeast by Turkmenistan; to the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan; to the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman; and to the west by Turkey and Iraq. Comprising a land area of 1,648,195 km2 (636,372 sq mi), it is the second-largest country in the Middle East and the 18th-largest in the world. With 78.4 million inhabitants, Iran is the world's 17th-most-populous country. It is the only country that has both a Caspian Sea and an Indian Ocean coastline. Iran has long been of geostrategic importance because of its central location in Eurasia and Western Asia, and its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the close scrutiny by Iran's Central Bank, recently there's been a cloud of doubt hovering over the true application of Islamic principles and precepts in Iran's banking sector. Around 14 hundred years ago, Islam found its way into the land of Persians and it now constitutes some 98% of the Iranian population’s faith. Interestingly enough, Islam taught people how to have rules and regulations for each and every minor aspect of social life, all that which is now referred to as the Islamic Jurisprudence or Sharia law. In 1983, Iranian Parliament following extensive researches by Islamic Jurists ratified and issued an executive order of usury-free Islamic banking practice based on which usury is strictly forbidden. A few Shia Jurisprudential leaders have uttered criticism against ...

Michelle Caruso-Cabrera reports on the hurdles facing investors who are looking to do business in Iran.
It has been less than two weeks since international sanctions were lifted on Iran. And President Hassan Rouhani has wasted no time in seizing new opportunities, embarking on a trip to Europe in which he's signed billions of dollars worth of new business for Iran. As leader of a country that's been isolated for so long, Rouhani probably knows the importance of a charm offensive. And this trip, in which he's met French and Italian leaders, as well as the Pope, is also about restoring Iran's image and position in the world. Rouhani says the visit marks a "new spring" in relations with Europe. With European nations ready to cash in on Iran's return to the global economy, will money help restore Iran's position in the world? And who stands to benefit from Iran opening up? Presenter: Jane...

This documentary follows an Australian tourist who travels to Tehran for the first time; it depicts different aspects of life in Iran's capital, from art and culture to science and research.
For centuries, the handicrafts of Isfahan illustrated some of the finest Persian art. Isfahan handicrafts get a lot of attention. The province itself is a major tourist attraction, and so many foreigners and Iranians frequent Isfahan. And they help spread and introduce Isfahan’s art to others. Maybe that is why Isfahan’s handicrafts are somewhat more popular throughout the world. That, in addition to the ages of experience the Isfahani artists have in mastering Persian craftsmanship. There has to be some serious contemplation when there is a plan to build a settlement somewhere. Real estate agents are consulted. Engineers and architects are called in. Sketches and maps are studied. Professional construction workers are hired. And the list goes on. These are some dire measures taken in the cities. In rural areas, as Golnar Farnoodi tells us, the grounds for building settlements is far more simple than that, but still very profound. In this edition of Iran Today, we discuss the main achievements of Iran’s universal healthcare scheme. A few months ago, Iran’s government implemented an inclusive health coverage program in order to extend medical insurance to all Iranians. More than 5 million people have registered in the program so far, and around 2.5 million people are receiving its services. According to the Iran Health Insurance Organization, it is estimated that 10 to 15 million people don’t have any kind of insurance program. These people are mostly the underprivileged, who cannot afford insurance premiums. To make up for that, the most vulnerable will be the first to benefit from the administration’s new initiative. February 5, 2015 (Persian calendar 1393/11/16) Despite having gained a notorious reputation from parts of the Israeli and American media, Iran is quite the contrary as it is a peaceful nation that is attracted many local medical tourists. There indeed has been a boon in medical tourism in Iran, which has managed to attract clients despite the political strife and has managed to differentiate between the two words Muslim and terrorists that the media and people use interchangeably. Iran has proved to be an example to other nations in proving that what global media portrays and what the state of political affairs is do not affect medical tourism. Iran also owes this influx because of its convenient geographical location, the prevailing conditions in the adjoining countries, its affordabl...

Iran Military Drills: Iran Ready For Decisive War With US & Israel It is the largest air, ground and sea military drill ever conducted by the army of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The war games dubbed Mohammad Rasulollah and held in 2.2 million square kilometers of Iran’s southeast at the coast of the sea of Oman continued for the 4th day. The military exercise was followed by a number of experiences for the Iranian army. For the first time, Iran’s Tareq heavy submarines engaged in mine laying operations aimed at securing Iran’s coastline against the penetration of hypothetical enemy. Mine sweeping operations formerly conducted by navy vessels were carried out by the navy’s AH helicopters for the first time. The drill also dealt with the intrusion of two foreign navy vessels into the mane...
United States has a defense budget that is over 30 times bigger than that of Iran. Iran's manpower is almost the same size as United State's, if all the reserves are called in. Who do you think would win in this military comparison? Let us know in the comments! This is our 2016 comparison of Iran vs USA. When it comes to tanks and land systems, Iran is no match to US. Same goes for airpower. But when it comes to cyber, we don't know exactly how much USA is investing compared to Iran. Nine years after Baghdad erupted in “shock and awe,” we’re once again hearing in America the drumbeat for war in the Middle East. Now, the bull’s-eye is on Iran. But what we need more than a simple change of target is a complete change in perspective, says Andrew Bacevich, a West Point graduate and Vietnam veteran-turned-scholar who’s become one of the most perceptive observers of America’s changing role in the world. This week, on an all-new Moyers & Company, Bill Moyers and Bacevich explore the futility of “endless” wars, and provide a reality check on the rhetoric of American exceptionalism. “Are we so unimaginative, so wedded to the reliance on military means that we cannot conceive of any way to reconcile our differences with groups and nations in the Islamic world, and therefore br...

The opening was done in a few days and was carried over from another colleague who had started working on it . It was textured and lit in Vray but I changed that into Cinema 4D renderer . The final opening ended up looking a bit different with some 3D Footage incorporated as cut scenes . The opening was heavily inspired by the War Zone opener https://vimeo.com/31506921 The whole project is still under going and my part in addition to the broadcast elements included work on some of the 3D footage in the documentary and included a lot of compositing

The producers commissioned a British filmmaker, David Whitney, to make the film with their help. After a lengthy development phase, shooting began on the "The Line of Freedom" in September 2012. The cast and crew braved high temperatures in the desert and mountains to shoot this short film at an undisclosed location. After the production stage, editing commenced in The UK and the film was completed in late 2012. The central character of the film is Nasir Dagaarzai who was abducted, tortured and murdered by Pakistani military as part of its "Kill and Dump" po...

In Part 2 he lists 21 things we ought to do instead. Please comment and consider using the Tip Jar below so TFF can make more important videos and continue its work in Iran.
30th June - 17 July, 2011 7m x 4.6m artist - designed frameless LED wall A virtual camera circles a computer-generated version of a landscape found in southern Iran, recording a simulated figure standing in the road, dressed in non-nationalized army fatigues. The man performs a routine of gestures derived from contemporary military exercise, day and night--without ever leaving his post--for a full calendar year, during which the simulated sun, moon and stars traverse their actual paths in real-time. In setting and subject, Infinite Freedom Exercise takes its inspiration from a photograph by Henri Bureau, the French photographer, which depicts an Iranian soldier during the first Iran-Iraq war (1980), watching a fire at an oil refinery in Abadan, south-western Iran. Bombing Syria will bring in other countries. In particular, Russia, Iran, and China. All Their military is far more advance and over powering. Wiping out the US would be an easy task. The collateral damage would be UN thinkable. But put it in this perspective. Just the Chinese Women's Military can defeat the USA, alone. There are more women ready to fight in China's military than all of the population of the USA. One of the US team members, Melvin Douglas, made a political gesture by holding up a portrait of Ayatollah Khameini, Iran's spiritual leader. Iran – formerly Persia - is the biggest country of the Middle East. Due to the fact that sky-high snowy mountains, extended deserts, verdant oases, turquoise cupola mosques and cultural and architectural relic sites of World Heritage are waiting for all visitors it can be a very desirable destination even for tourists who continuously look for the new and varied. In Tehran the luxurious palaces of Persian shahs, the Museum of Archaeology and the Museum of Carpets and Rugs are the sights that “must” be seen. Yazd and Kerman is well-known for their mosques and bazaars, Naqsh-e Rustam is for its rock-hewn tombs, Rayen and Persepolis are for the remains of their palaces and castles from the time of the Persian Empire. The two most beautiful cities of Iran are the splendidly situated Shiraz and ...
My name's Michael and I'm the Marketing Manager for Wild Frontiers. I'm here at the magnificent site of Persepolis in Iran. I've been in Iran for two weeks now and so far I've been enchanted by this fascinating country. CITIES The capital Tehran is most people's starting point, and in this busy city you can see ostentatious ornaments from the royal household in the crown jewels museum, and wander around the Shah's old residence, Golestan Palace. Just north of Tehran you can visit the Elburz Mountains for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. But the real highlights lie elsewhere. In the off-the-beaten-track city of Yazd you'll find a cityscape dotted with the ingenious wind tunnels -- which could be described as the world's first air-conditioning system - the ancient Zoroastria...

Despite warnings from some friends and family members as well the German government about traveling to Iran, the Ivan family, a family of four with German, Romanian and French ancestry, came to Iran and traveled around the country in five months. When it comes to Tehran, it's impossible to avoid politics and easy to overlook the Iranian city's thriving culinary scene. In our first installment of The MUNCHIES Guide to Tehran, our host Gelareh Kiazand introduces us to the bustling street food offerings in the city. We begin our journey at the capital city's Grand Bazaar, since that's where commodities first arrive. Gelareh beelines for the market's food stands, where she samples dried fruits and nuts while waiting out the line at Moslem Restaurant, frequented by up to 5,000 kebab connoisseurs daily—well worth it for her favorite tah chin. At the more modest and bygone Tajrish Bazaar, she's the proverbial kid in a candy store, wading through copper and carpet vendors in search of sweet snacks, such as grape molasses and lavasak (fru...
Travel video about destination Iran. Iran, formerly known as Persia, is a land of magical splendour, ancient architecture and Oriental hospitality. Tehran has been the capital of the Persian Empire since 1795. Founded by Mohammed Aga Khan it is a vibrant place that ranks among the most densely populated cities on Earth. Its biggest transformation in its recent history was due to religious leader, Ayatollah Khomeyni, who in 1979 established the Iranian Republic, a theocracy within the teachings of the Koran. The Saad-Abad Palace complex was the first summer residence of the Qadjarian kings. Following several extensions, from the 1920’s eighteen palaces were used by Reza Shah Pahlevi and his family. The city of Kashan prospered under the Safavid, Shah Abbas The First, who designed the Bagh...
License Video: dissolve.com/products?media_type=video&producer;=Pete+R&sort;_by_date=true I thought I knew what a good hospitality is like.. until I came to Iran. "Why go to Iran?" This is a question people often asked when I tell them I was going there. I would have ask the same if it wasn't the words of mouth I heard over the years about how awesome Iran is, how incredibly friendly the people are, and how off the beaten path the whole country is. The first day I arrived in Tehran, I was walking around the Bazaar and we were approached by several locals asking what we think about Iran, gave us free tea and cakes, and allowed us to roam their warehouses without asking for anything in return. This similar scenario happened a lot more throughout my 2 weeks time in Iran and really got me th...
For me Iran is a beautiful, magical country, a monument for the grandor of human civilization. Iran is a place where dazzling architecture is set amid desolate expanses of desert or steppe; where snow-capped mountains plunge dramatically to a seacoast of steamy lushness; where nomads guide their flocks to seasonal pasturelands; where tombs, temples, castles, and mosques bespeak the richness of the Persian past. High and dry for the most part, the land is sectioned by great mountain ranges, dotted with venerable villages of mud and stone as well as modern cities, and has a cultural fabric woven of many different threads, Persian,Turkish, Kurdish, Baluchi, ...

Directed by Nahid Ghobadi and Bijan Zamanpira, Iraq, 2012 A government official, carrying a message from Iran’s president, travels across Iranian Kurdistan with his driver and a young guide on a mission to stop 111 young Kurdish women from committing suicide in protest against conditions that have left them spinsters. Racing against the clock, they travel into territory simmering with resentment at official neglect and the hardship it has sown among a proud people. Against a dramatically colorful physical and human landscape, wistful longing mingles with dreamlike desire and absurdist humor as the three travelers meander helplessly in a land riddled with contradictions. Many Iranians are hoping they will now be able to lead a freer life – and we meet many of these hospitable and welcoming people on our journey through the Middle Eastern nation. The country’s most important rail link, the Trans-Iranian Railway, runs for approximately 1400 kilometers from the Persian Gulf via Teheran to the Caspian Sea. The journey starts in Khorramshahr on the Shatt al-Arab, the river border between Iraq and Iran. Traveling past oil fields, the train reaches Shushtar. One of the top sights here is the historic hydraulic system, now a UNESCO...

Some shots I did in Iran a few years back on "The History of Football" a 13 x 1 hour TV series for Freemantle Media, all shot on DigiBeta unfortunately. Whilst filming the scene of the "large mural of soldiers with traffic in the foreground" a secret police vehicle spotted us and we were arrested. We were interrogated and held for six hours while they made their checks to make sure we weren't spies. Despite the unpleasant experience it didn't change my feelings for the country and its people, some of the friendliest and hospitable on this planet.
To the people asking me : "Why the fuck do you want to go to Iran ?", i'd like to show them this video. Once again, i took a 3 weeks trip in the Middle East, with my video bag, filled with a few extra shirts, with one thought in mind: make people want to travel. The narration explains the whole thing : "Curves are everywhere in Eastern culture: our writing, our architecture, our instruments, the way we dance ; even the tone of our language is curved. The West was built on angles. The East was built on curves." Listen with headphones! Bonus videos : Cool kids of Tehran: Tehran is full of artists, expressing their art even if the government don't want them to do so. This is a portrait of two of them: https://youtu.be/PpUW2Rezei8 Sacred Geometry: It's hard to describe how tiny you feel when...
Short video about my trip to Iran in autumn 2014. I can honestly say I never thought about traveling to Iran and I am still not sure what made me go there other than to simply experience firsthand one of the most mislead countries in the world. What I found was an incredibly hospitable and friendly people, a land full of spectacular landscapes, a fascinating culture and history and despite a extremely difficult political situation the iranians has nothing to do with the image the media show us. This short video represents only a fraction of what I saw and experienced but being one of the most stimulating and enriching journeys of my life let me invite you to watch it and maybe change the image you may have of this beautiful country. Sinceramente nunca había pensado en viajar a Irán y aún...

“Should we go?” Chad Sayers and Forrest Coots decide, indeed, they should. Upon arriving in Iran, they are welcomed with profound warmth, stunned by the immense beauty of the landscape and culture. Threaded through Tehran’s bustling bazaars to Isfahan’s dazzling mosques, the two skiers get a glimpse at the complex dichotomy that divides public and private lives in Iran. As journalist Elaine Sciolino writes, “Iran can be dazzling, and light-filled, a reflection of its complexities; but it can also be cold, confusing, and impenetrable.” To travel to Iran is a reminder of the virtues of travel itself. Nothing is as it first appears. At private ski chalets atop slopes of the Alborz and Zagros mountains, rules and customs relent. Presented by Arc'teryx in association with Gore-Tex. Visit: ww...
