LEAD, S.D. (AP) - The Historic Homestake Opera House in Lead is introducing a series of events this summer to satisfy the tastes of country music lovers as well as the fanciers of old-time Nashville show business.
The Black Hills Opry aims to be a miniature Grand Ole Opry, the famous country music variety show in the Tennessee capital that’s also considered the capital of country music.
The Black Hills Opry is intended to add variety to the offerings at the opera house, the Black Hills Pioneer reported (http://bit.ly/2s1PChq ). Events are scheduled June through October, with each of the concerts featuring the classic country band Aces & Eights.
Band musicians Kim Bachman and Harland Allen came up with the opry concept and contacted opera house Executive Director Sarah Carlson.
“We thought we had something unique,” Allen said. “I don’t know of anyone in the Black Hills that has done anything similar to this.”
Guest artists and country bands will join Aces & Eights throughout the summer. Bachman and Allen are doing the booking for the show, and the opera house is managing the business end of things.
“We want to present old-time, classic country including well-known tunes,” Carlson said.
