AB de Villiers

Abraham Benjamin "AB" de Villiers (born 17 February 1984) is a South African cricketer, who captains the South African Test and One Day International (ODI) teams, having succeeded Graeme Smith after the 2011 Cricket World Cup for the ODI captaincy and Hashim Amla after the Second Test of the England in South Africa series for the Test captaincy.

He is widely regarded as the current best batsman in the world and one of the greatest of all time. As of January 2016, he is ranked first and seventh. in the ICC ODI and Test batting rankings respectively.

The son of Dr. Abraham Benjamin de Villiers, he attended Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Afrikaans High School for Boys, also known as Affies), a public school located in Pretoria. De Villiers is a right-handed batsman, who, in a very short period of time, has accumulated many runs in Tests including 21 centuries and 36 fifties. He still holds the record for most Test innings without registering a duck (78), before being dismissed for nought against Bangladesh in November 2008. He also holds the second-highest individual score by a South African batsman in an innings, with 278*. Until 2012, he was an occasional wicket-keeper for South Africa, although since the retirement of regular Test keeper Mark Boucher and under his own ODI captaincy he has started to regularly keep wicket for the national side in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, but then decided to give up wicketkeeping after the debut of Quinton de Kock, and started becoming a part-time bowler. He was one of South Africa's part-time bowlers along with JP Duminy and Farhaan Behardien to fill the quota of the fifth bowler in the 2015 World Cup.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (often abbreviated as RCB) are a franchise cricket team based in Bangalore, Karnataka that plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). One of the founding eight teams in the IPL, the team has made two final appearances in the IPL, losing both (in 2009 to the Deccan Chargers and in 2011 to the Chennai Super Kings). The team also finished runners-up in the 2011 CLT20. The team was supposed to play in the 2015 CLT20, however, the tournament was shelved as of July 2015. The home ground of the Royal Challengers is the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

The team is currently captained by Virat Kohli and coached by Daniel Vettori. The team is owned by Vijay Mallya, through his flagship firm UB Group. The director of the team is Sidhartha Mallya.

Indian Premier League is a cricket tournament organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and backed by the International Cricket Council (ICC). For the inaugural tournament held in April–June 2008, the BCCI had finalised a list of 8 teams who will be participating in the tournament. The teams representing 8 different cities of India, including Bangalore, were put up on auction in Mumbai on 20 February 2009 and the Bangalore team was won by Vijay Mallya, who paid US$111.6 million for it. This was the second highest bid for a team in the IPL, next only to Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries' bid of $111.9 million for the Mumbai team.

In sport, a Man of the Match or Player of the Game or Man of the Series award is given to the outstanding player, almost always the one who makes the most impact, in a particular match or series. The term was originally used more often in cricket before being adopted by other sports. This can be a player from either team, usually the winning team.

Franchise history

Sunrisers Hyderabad replaced the Deccan Chargers in 2013. They retained 20 players from the Chargers, which left slots open for 13 players (eight Indian, five overseas). They filled six of these with Thisara Perera, Darren Sammy, Sudeep Tyagi, Nathan McCullum, Quinton de Kock and Clint McKay. The team was announced in Chennai on 18 December 2012. The team is owned by Sun TV Network who won the bid of ₹ 850.5 million per year (approximately $15.9 million) for a five-year deal, a week after Deccan Chargers was terminated due to prolonged financial issues. Sun TV Network Limited, which is headquartered in Chennai, is one of India's biggest television network with 32 TV channels and 45 FM radio stations which is India's largest media and entertainment company.
