The Montmorency Falls (French: Chutes Montmorency) is a large waterfall on the Montmorency River in Quebec, Canada. The falls are located on the boundary between the borough of Beauport, Quebec City, and Boischatel, about 12 km from the heart of old Quebec City. The area surrounding the falls is protected within the Montmorency Falls Park (French: Parc de la Chutes-Montmorency). The falls are at the mouth of the Montmorency River where it drops over the cliff shore into the Saint Lawrence River, opposite the western end of the Île d'Orleans.
There are staircases that allow visitors to view the falls from several different perspectives. A suspension bridge over the crest of the falls provides access to both sides of the park as well as a spectacular view. There is also an aerial tram (Funitel) that carries passengers between the base and the top of the falls. In the summer the park hosts an international fireworks competition with the falls as a backdrop.
The falls, at 84 meters (275 ft) high and 46 meters (150 ft) wide, are the highest in the province of Quebec. They are 30 meters (98 ft) higher than Niagara Falls. The basin at the foot of the falls is 17 meters (56 ft) deep. The falls were given this name in 1613 by Samuel de Champlain. He named them in honour of Henri II, duc de Montmorency, who served as viceroy of New France from 1620 until 1625.
Quebec (/kᵻˈbɛk/; French: Québec [kebɛk]), also Québec, City of Québec,Quebec City, or Québec City (French: Ville de Québec), is the capital of the province of Quebec in Canada. In 2011 the city had a population of 516,622, and the metropolitan area had a population of 799,600 in 2014, making it the second most populous city in Quebec after Montreal, which is about 233 km (145 mi) to the southwest.
The narrowing of the Saint Lawrence River proximate to the city's promontory, Cap-Diamant (Cape Diamond), and Lévis, on the opposite bank, provided the name given to the city, Kébec, an Algonquin word meaning "where the river narrows". Founded in 1608 by Samuel de Champlain, Quebec City is one of the oldest cities in North America. The ramparts surrounding Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec) are the only fortified city walls remaining in the Americas north of Mexico, and were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 as the 'Historic District of Old Québec'.
According to the federal and provincial governments, Québec is the city's official name in both French and English, although Quebec City (or its French equivalent, Ville de Québec) is commonly used, particularly to distinguish the city from the province. In French, the names of the province and the city are distinguished grammatically in that the province takes the definite article (le Québec, du Québec, au Québec) and the city does not (Québec, de Québec, à Québec).

We visited the Montmorency Falls on a mid-May Monday morning. It's about 12km from old Quebec City centre. You can climb the numerous steps up the side of the hill to reach the bridge to cross over the falls from the parking lot below. There is another parking lot at the Montmorency Manoir up top by the bridge. Both charge the same entry fee for a carload (CAD 12). There is a double-zip-line you can take across the falls, watch for one guy going across. Sorry for the water spots on my lense for some shots, massive mist coming off the waterfall that couldn't be avoided. Montmorency Falls not too far from Quebec City are a must see if you're in town. I especially love the bridge going right over the falls. There's a lot of incredible waterfalls in North America. Montmorency Falls belongs on that list. A few minutes from Old Town Quebec City, the Montmorency River plunges 275 feet before emptying into the St Lawrence River. A portion of Montmorency Falls Park, this waterfall is the largest in the province and 98 feet taller than Niagara Falls. In the winter a massive snowcone forms at the base of the falls.

Montmorency Falls is both an historic site and a very popular tourist destination. A cable car ride gets you the best view of the 270-foot waterfalls, which amounts to about one and a half times the height of Niagara Falls, though they aren't anywhere near as wide. In the winter, ice climbers scale the Freezing Wall, or the ice-covered cliff, which contains many climbing routes.

*REUPLOAD* In the morning Jonathan and myself went to the famous Hotel de Glace, and ice hotel just outside the main part of Quebec City. In the afternoon we visited Montmorency Falls. Upon returning to the hotel after dinner we discovered a dozen fire engines outside the hotel. There was an electrical fire on the fourth floor. There were many young teenagers who had to be evacuated from the pool who only had their bathing gear. The staff were going crazy running around finding towels to keep them warm as the temperature was -24C/-11.2F. We are all put on a bus and taken to the Hilton for the night. I have had to edit out part of the ice tour because in the original video there was a song being played in the background in the bar at the ice hotel which Google detected. Originally the vid...
