Waylon Arnold Jennings (pronounced /ˈweɪlən ˈdʒɛnɪŋz/; June 15, 1937 – February 13, 2002) was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. Jennings began playing guitar at 8 and began performing at 12 on KVOW radio. His first band was The Texas Longhorns. Jennings worked as a D.J. on KVOW, KDAV, KYTI, and KLLL. In 1958, Buddy Holly arranged Jennings's first recording session, of "Jole Blon" and "When Sin Stops (Love Begins)". Holly hired him to play bass. In Clear Lake, Iowa, Jennings gave up his seat on the ill-fated flight that crashed and killed Holly, J. P. Richardson, Ritchie Valens, and pilot Roger Peterson. The day of the flight was later known as The Day the Music Died. Jennings then worked as a D.J. in Coolidge, Arizona, and Phoenix. He formed a rockabilly club band, The Waylors. He recorded for independent label Trend Records and A&M Records, before succeeding with RCA Victor after achieving creative control.

Waylon is a 1970 album by Waylon Jennings released on RCA Victor.
Waylon is best remembered for the cover of Chuck Berry's "Brown Eyed Handsome Man," which climbed to #3 on the Billboard country charts, Jennings third Top 5 solo hit. Jennings would perform the song as part of a medley on The Johnny Cash Show. Aside from "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man", none of the other songs on this LP were released as singles. The version of "Yes, Virginia" presented here is different from the one originally issued on The One and Only in 1967. According to Waylon's autobiography, the song "Yellow Haired Woman" was written about Barbara Rood, his third wife. The album also includes a duet with Anita Carter on the Merle Haggard composition "All of Me Belongs to You."
Waylon is also significant for its version of "The Thirty-Third of August," written by Texas songwriter Mickey Newbury, a key figure among a new generation of country songwriters that would contribute to the outlaw country movement in country music, of which Jennings would be a central focus. As Tom Jurek observes in his AllMusic review of the album:
Jennings is a surname of early medieval English origin (also the Anglicised version of the Irish surnames Mac Sheóinín or MacJonin). Notable people with the surname include:
Waylon Live is an live album by Waylon Jennings, released on RCA Victor in 1976.
Jennings first gained fame as a live performer at a club called J.D.s in Phoenix, Arizona in the early 1960s. A disciple of Buddy Holly (with whom he toured before the rock and roll pioneer's death in 1959), Jennings and his band the Waylors played many styles of music, including folk, rock, and country, and it was on the basis of his local fame throughout Arizona that he was signed to RCA in 1966 by Chet Atkins. However, the Texan quickly became disillusioned with the lackluster sound of his recordings, especially when compared to his live shows. He began demanding the right to record with the Waylors and produce his own records, and by 1972 RCA - regretting the loss of Willie Nelson to Atlantic and under siege from Waylon's new manager Neil Reshen - gave in. What followed was an unprecedented string of critically acclaimed albums, including the groundbreaking Honky Tonk Heroes in 1973, widely regarded as ground zero for the outlaw country movement. Reshen also booked Jennings and his band into clubs not known for country music, like Max's Kansas City in New York. In the CMT episode of Inside Fame about his life, Jennings recalled that he told the jaded rock audience he was from Nashville and would be playing country music, adding "we sure hope you like it, but if you don't like it you better keep your mouth shut 'cause we will kick your ass. I'm Waylon goddamn Jennings."
"This Time" written by Waylon Jennings. Recorded on Waylon Live! 1976 Original Release, 1999 Buddha re-issue and the 2003 Expanded Edition.

My favorite Waylon concert. I do not own the copyright of this recording. I strongly recommend the original, high quality DVD for optimum enjoyment. With his great voice, hard-driving music and charismatic stage persona, Waylon Jennings (1937-2002) was one of country music’s biggest stars, and arguably its most naturally gifted. Born into small-town poverty in West Texas, music was his passion from a young age. Having started playing the guitar at eight, by his early teens he was playing in bands. After leaving school at 14, he worked for a few years picking cotton and in various other menial jobs, and then moved to the nearby city of Lubbock, where he got a job as a radio D.J. While working there he met Lubbock-born Buddy Holly, who, though only a year older than Waylon, was already one o...

Finally made it to Luckenbach Texas. When the song by Waylon Jennings came out in 1976 or so, I promised myself that I would go there someday. Finally made the trip in 2002. Only took me 26 years. Bought a pair of boots and a sign that read "Life Is Too Short Not Too Live In Texas". Oh yeah, and a few Lone Star beers !! My kind of country... Also made side trips to Crawford (Bush's home town) and Fort Worth.
While on the tour of historic RCA Studio B in Nashville, I had the opportunity to play the studio's Steinway (only after Monica let the tour guide know I was a pianist, I was to shy). The first call session pianist to work in this studio was Floyd Cramer. Elvis, Roy Orbison, Don Gibson, Porter Wagner, Dolly Parton, Charley Pride, Hank Snow, Waylon Jennings, and The Everly Brothers all recorded here. This studio gave birth to the Nashville Sound ( a combintation of what was then Country and the emerging new style of Rock & Roll). It was built under the supervision/orders of Chet Atkins, so that Elvis Presley would have a place to record, apparently until this studio was built, all of Elvis' hits were recorded in the stairwell of the RCA records office building! Elvis loved to sit at this pi...

"Billy Joe Shaver is a singer, songwriter, and actor, called "the last great cowboy poet" by No Depression magazine. Shaver has led the sort of life that could only be captured in country music. He was born in 1939 in Corsicana, Texas. His father left before he was born, and his mother went to find work in Waco, leaving Shaver and his sister Patricia to be raised by their grandmother. Though his family was too poor to afford musical instruments, as a child, Shaver started to sing and write songs. On the urging of a high school friend, Shaver enlisted in the Navy, but was discharged after getting in a fight with an out-of-uniform officer. He later took a job at a sawmill, where an accident caused him to lose most of the fingers on his right hand. In 1966, Shaver came to Nashville and eventu...
