June 10, 1990 - In a pre-arranged decision after Joe Dumars Jr. was forced into intensive care weeks earlier, Pistons guard Joe Dumars III opted that, in the event of his father's death, he would not be told until a game's conclusion. Unfortunately, Dumars lost his father prior to Game 3, coinciding with his best game of the postseason. Dumars scored 33 points, including a rainbow shot that Thomas attributed to Dumars' father.

Jason Kempler (Brian Austin Green) is a regular teenage boy: he loves girls, his band and having fun. But his carefree existence comes to an abrupt end when a one-night stand leads to unexpected fatherhood. Jason wants nothing to do with the mother, Melanie (Nicholle Tom), or the child, and he is shocked when Melanie leaves the newborn baby on his doorstep and disappears. His situation is further complicated when his father and stepmother turn him and the baby out of the house, believing that the time has come for Jason to accept some responsibility for his actions – and for his life. The more time Jason spends with his baby, the more he comes to love fatherhood. When Melanie suddenly reappears and wants her baby back, Jason is devastated: He cannot imagine his life without his son.

Medieval in its brutality and psychedelic in its execution, 1990: THE BRONX WARRIORS is among the crowning achievements of exploitation master Enzo G. Castellari (THE INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, KEOMA, THE BIG RACKET). And at that, it’s one of the most compellingly over-the-top, guttural pictures to capitalize on the 1970’s South Bronx crime wave. Handily cribbing from both ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and THE WARRIORS, it presents a dystopian future scenario in which the Bronx is quarantined as a mob-ruled No Man’s Land lorded over by colorful gangs marked by their flamboyant dress and manneristic quirks. Into this anarchic world a young heiress flees her evil capitalist father, who employs a mercenary army to slaughter its way through the gangs who variously harbor and fight over her.
This is perhaps the most lavish, colorful and explosive production of both Castellari’s career and the Italian post-apocalypse subgenre it inspired. Its highlights include epic slow-motion shootouts, sword-vs-hockey stick brawls, creepy mimes with nunchucks and a legion of mounted police officers strapped with flame throwers roasting out the gangs against the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline. The cast includes blaxploitation stalwart Fred Williamson alongside Vic Morrow in his penultimate role.

Max von Sydow
Carl Adolf "Max" von Sydow (/vɒn ˈsiːdoʊ/;Swedish: [fɔn ˈsyːdɔv]; born 10 April 1929) is a Swedish-born French actor. He has appeared in many films, in many languages, including Swedish, Norwegian, English, Italian, German, Danish, French and Spanish. He received the Royal Foundation of Sweden's Cultural Award in 1954, was made a Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres in 2005, and was named a Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur on 17 October 2012.
Von Sydow has appeared in well over 100 films and TV shows. Some of his most memorable film roles include Knight Antonius Block in Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal (1957), the first of his eleven films with Bergman, and the film that includes the iconic scenes in which he plays chess with Death; Martin in Through a Glass Darkly (1961); Jesus in The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965); Oktober in The Quiller Memorandum (1966); Karl Oskar Nilsson in The Emigrants (1971); Roy Lindberg in The Apple War (1971); Father Lankester Merrin in The Exorcist (1973); Joubert the assassin in Three Days of the Condor (1975); Ming the Merciless in Flash Gordon (1980); the villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the James Bond film Never Say Never Again (1983); Liet-Kynes in Dune (1984); Frederick in Hannah and Her Sisters (1986); Lassefar in Pelle the Conqueror (1987), for which he received his first Academy Award nomination; Dr. Peter Ingham in Awakenings (1990); Lamar Burgess in Minority Report (2002); Sir Walter Loxley in Robin Hood (2010), and The Renter in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2012), which earned him his second Academy Award nomination. In 2016, Sydow will join the cast of HBO's hit series Game of Thrones, playing the role of the Three-eyed Raven.

I know there was already a new cut released on blu-ray by Scream Factory, Well..., I liked it but I was disappointed that it didn't followed around the original shooting script (THE EXORCIST 1990), it may have followed it but it didn't restored the scenes that I was hoping that it would be restored: 1. Father Karra's body played by Brad Dourif is viewed in the Police Pathology lab which is on disc 1 which will say "DELETED PROLOGUE" 2. The shot of Father Kanavan's stilled body holds his severed head in which his face is expressionless, It would've been so creepy as hell to see it. 3. What about that scene in the ending of both drafts, the early 1988 "15 years after" draft and the 1989 shooting "Exorcist 1990" script, where there's a student couple (2 of them) are having a enjoyment of their life, and the boy is tugging the girl to get into the boat, until she resists and the girl hears a muffled gunshot (O.S.) in the background and later the girl gets into the boat with the boy and the girls tells him to speak a poem and of course he does and the film ends, and that I thought would've been a beautiful/but a rather odd weird ending. But who knows, If I was hired to construct it, I would absolutely follow the original shooting script as it is what's originally printed on paper, instead of it being a cobbled mess in the opening, the credits open and you see Father Karras jumps out of the window to the steps and cut to credits (still) and cut to what is basically the main film but footage from the theatrical version in order to fill in the gap, because the original footage was lost, reported by Morgan Creek, (shame on them, they should've still kept it), also there's black and white footage (a few of it), but also VHS tape footage of the dailies used (including the footage between The Gemini Killer and Kinderman is all Brad Dourif), and I was disappointed at what Shout! did. I'm sorry, If you liked it, fine, fine, it's my opinion, I'm not going to absolutely say, I hated this cut, I liked it but it just didn't followed what the original shooting script was basically printed on paper! So what did I do... I did my own version, restructured, restored parts from the original shooting script. That was that. So how do I look at my version, I will say it's more better than the new cut that Scream Factory did. - Tue. N -

ATA ZZA ŻELAZNEJ KURTYNY Jem (Jeremy Panufnik) jest twórcą muzyki młodzieżowej i animacji, mieszka w Londynie, gdzie jest znany również jako DJ. Gdy jego ojciec miał tyle lat, co on, czyli około czterdziestki – był już uznanym polskim kompozytorem. Komunistyczne władze wybrały go jako „wizytówkę” polskiej muzyki za granicą. W 1954 roku Andrzej Panufnik postanowił zerwać związki z reżimem. Wyjechał Zachód jako kompozytor zza żelaznej kurtyny z postanowieniem, że nigdy do Polski nie wróci. Nie wierzył wówczas, ani przez długie lata swojego życia w Anglii, że komunizm zostanie kiedyś obalany i w 1990 roku, na krótko przed śmiercią jeszcze raz stanie na ojczystej ziemi. Dla Jema przeszłość ojca była zawsze owiana tajemnicą. Ojciec nie opowiadał mu o Polsce, nie uczył języka, nie wierzył, żeby kiedykolwiek synowi to było potrzebne. Dziś Andrzej kończyłby 94 lata. Do domu pod Londynem, gdzie dalej mieszka jego żona Camilla, gdzie ciągle istnieje jego dawna, zakurzona dziś pracownia - przyjeżdżają starzy przyjaciele, tak jak kiedyś, na urodziny. Jem chce porozmawiać z nimi o tym, o czym nie zdążył porozmawiać z ojcem. Jednak perspektywa angielska nie wystarcza. Jem wyjeżdża do Polski, żeby zrozumieć dramatyczną biografię ojca, poznać jego dylematy, motywy ucieczki z kraju. Podróż w czasie śladami ojca jest przede wszystkim refleksją nad samym sobą. Jem, nie mając, w odróżnieniu od swojej siostry, klasycznego wykształcenia muzycznego - czuł się w rodzinie zawsze inny. Ale kiedy wraz z nim podróżujemy śladami Andrzeja Panufnika mamy wrażenie, że syn jest niezwykle bliski ojcu zarówno poprzez swoją wrażliwość, szczerość jak i zaskakujące refleksje. W czasie podróży bohater odkrywa w sobie emocje, które do dziś pozostawały w ukryciu. The father in question, classical composer Andrzej Panufnik, died in 1991 and his son Jem, DJ and dance music creator has always managed to keep a lid on his feelings of loss. Until now, that is. We follow Jem as he makes the journey to Poland to find out more about his father’s early life. In particular Jem wants to understand the reasons for his father’s defection to the West in 1954 when he was around 40 years old and at the height of his fame. The journey is a poignant one because Jem has turned 40 and, feeling overshadowed by the achievements of his famous father, he is questioning his own musical career and aspirations. As we follow Jem on his journey to Poland, we meet the family Andrzej left behind and witness Jem’s moving quest to understand his beloved father and, at the same time, search within and establish his own creative identity.

Medieval in its brutality and psychedelic in its execution, 1990: THE BRONX WARRIORS is among the crowning achievements of exploitation master Enzo G. Castellari (THE INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, KEOMA, THE BIG RACKET). And at that, it’s one of the most compellingly over-the-top, guttural pictures to capitalize on the 1970’s South Bronx crime wave. Handily cribbing from both ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and THE WARRIORS, it presents a dystopian future scenario in which the Bronx is quarantined as a mob-ruled No Man’s Land lorded over by colorful gangs marked by their flamboyant dress and manneristic quirks. Into this anarchic world a young heiress flees her evil capitalist father, who employs a mercenary army to slaughter its way through the gangs who variously harbor and fight over her.
This is perhaps the most lavish, colorful and explosive production of both Castellari’s career and the Italian post-apocalypse subgenre it inspired. Its highlights include epic slow-motion shootouts, sword-vs-hockey stick brawls, creepy mimes with nunchucks and a legion of mounted police officers strapped with flame throwers roasting out the gangs against the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline. The cast includes blaxploitation stalwart Fred Williamson alongside Vic Morrow in his penultimate role.

I liked it but I was disappointed that it didn't followed around the original shooting script (THE EXORCIST 1990), it may have followed it but it didn't restored the scenes that I was hoping that it would be restored:
1. Father Karra's body played by Brad Dourif is viewed in the Police Pathology lab which is on disc 1 which will say "DELETED PROLOGUE"
2. The shot of Father Kanavan's stilled body holds his severed head in which his face is expressionless, It would've been so creepy as hell to see it.
3. What about that scene in the ending of both drafts, the early 1988 "15 years after" draft and the 1989 shooting "Exorcist 1990" script, where there's a student couple (2 of them) are having a enjoyment of their life, and the boy is tugging the girl to get into the boat, until she resists and the girl hears a muffled gunshot (O.S.) in the background and later the girl gets into the boat with the boy and the girls tells him to speak a poem and of course he does and the film ends, and that I thought would've been a beautiful/but a rather odd weird ending.
But who knows, If I was hired to construct it, I would absolutely follow the original shooting script as it is what's originally printed on paper, instead of it being a cobbled mess in the opening, the credits open and you see Father Karras jumps out of the window to the steps and cut to credits (still) and cut to what is basically the main film but footage from the theatrical version in order to fill in the gap, because the original footage was lost, reported by Morgan Creek, (shame on them, they should've still kept it), also there's black and white footage (a few of it), but also VHS tape footage of the dailies used (including the footage between The Gemini Killer and Kinderman is all Brad Dourif), and I was disappointed at what Shout! did. I'm sorry, If you liked it, fine, fine, it's my opinion, I'm not going to absolutely say, I hated this cut, I liked it but it just didn't followed what the original shooting script was basically printed on paper!
So what did I do... I did my own version, restructured, restored parts from the original shooting script. That was that. So how do I look at my version, I will say it's more better than the new cut that Scream Factory did.

Jem (Jeremy Panufnik) jest twórcą muzyki młodzieżowej i animacji, mieszka w Londynie, gdzie jest znany również jako DJ. Gdy jego ojciec miał tyle lat, co on, czyli około czterdziestki – był już uznanym polskim kompozytorem. Komunistyczne władze wybrały go jako „wizytówkę” polskiej muzyki za granicą. W 1954 roku Andrzej Panufnik postanowił zerwać związki z reżimem. Wyjechał Zachód jako kompozytor zza żelaznej kurtyny z postanowieniem, że nigdy do Polski nie wróci. Nie wierzył wówczas, ani przez długie lata swojego życia w Anglii, że komunizm zostanie kiedyś obalany i w 1990 roku, na krótko przed śmiercią jeszcze raz stanie na ojczystej ziemi.
Dla Jema przeszłość ojca była zawsze owiana tajemnicą. Ojciec nie opowiadał mu o Polsce, nie uczył języka, nie wierzył, żeby kiedykolwiek synowi to było potrzebne. Dziś Andrzej kończyłby 94 lata. Do domu pod Londynem, gdzie dalej mieszka jego żona Camilla, gdzie ciągle istnieje jego dawna, zakurzona dziś pracownia - przyjeżdżają starzy przyjaciele, tak jak kiedyś, na urodziny. Jem chce porozmawiać z nimi o tym, o czym nie zdążył porozmawiać z ojcem. Jednak perspektywa angielska nie wystarcza. Jem wyjeżdża do Polski, żeby zrozumieć dramatyczną biografię ojca, poznać jego dylematy, motywy ucieczki z kraju. Podróż w czasie śladami ojca jest przede wszystkim refleksją nad samym sobą. Jem, nie mając, w odróżnieniu od swojej siostry, klasycznego wykształcenia muzycznego - czuł się w rodzinie zawsze inny. Ale kiedy wraz z nim podróżujemy śladami Andrzeja Panufnika mamy wrażenie, że syn jest niezwykle bliski ojcu zarówno poprzez swoją wrażliwość, szczerość jak i zaskakujące refleksje. W czasie podróży bohater odkrywa w sobie emocje, które do dziś pozostawały w ukryciu.

At the centre of this film is the relationship between father and son. The father in question, classical composer Andrzej Panufnik, died in 1991 and his son Jem, DJ and dance music creator has always managed to keep a lid on his feelings of loss. Until now, that is. We follow Jem as he makes the journey to Poland to find out more about his father’s early life. In particular Jem wants to understand the reasons for his father’s defection to the West in 1954 when he was around 40 years old and at the height of his fame. The journey is a poignant one because Jem has turned 40 and, feeling overshadowed by the achievements of his famous father, he is questioning his own musical career and aspirations.
As we follow Jem on his journey to Poland, we meet the family Andrzej left behind and witness Jem’s moving quest to understand his beloved father and, at the same time, search within and establish his own creative identity.

George Nakashima Woodworker is a custom furniture company located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, owned by siblings Mira and Kevin Nakashima. Founded by their father, George Nakashima (1905-1990), in 1947, the nine-acre site served as a kind of laboratory for integrated living, testing George's concepts of "decentralization, intermediate technology and living off the land" while synthesizing his varied experiences in the Pacific Northwest, Japan, and India, among other places. Today, it continues as an active woodworking studio as well as a heritage center preserving George's legacy. It is, above all, an exceedingly serene place.
We were fortunate to visit on a day Mira was hosting a client and tagged along as they went through the careful process of selecting wood, a singular experience that probably best begins to distinguish the Nakashima studio. Divided among three buildings, the bulk of Nakashima's wood collection is stored in an enormous barn-like warehouse where lumber is horizontally stacked in the boule form of the log. Here, there are slabs and lumber that date back to George's early days in Bucks County, awaiting a project for which they'd be bested suited. Here, it's easy to remember the "soul of the tree," the elemental foundation that guides the studio's operation.
It's easy, too, to settle into the rhythm of the studio, especially shaded under the towering oaks from the late summer sun. Everywhere is the sound of work: the buzzing of saws, the sander's squeal, the percussive thump of tools and machines that signal things are being made. And in the moments when work pauses, crickets -- or are they cicadas? -- while Mira's young grandson swims in the pool at the forest's edge. A day at Nakashima's is a powerful testament to George's legacy, that the work we do and why we do it is inseparable from how we do it. It's a legacy worth preserving and one Mira both guards and extends by continuing to evolve the studio's work in the spirit her father laid out.

"Tragedy struck again when Chris' father died in the fall of 1990 after his long battle with cancer. Almost a year to the day later, Chris released his second solo album, Fornucopia. Even though it was a very dark and angry album, it debuted at #1 and spent a combined 18 weeks on the top of the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. The album included the soulful remake of the Ramsey Sellers classic, "It Don't Matter To The Sun," and the instant classic, "Main Street."

She appeared in 42 movies, mostly musicals, and in a wide variety of television programs, theatre and stage productions. In the 1960s she collaborated with Dimitris Papamichail in a number of popular movies. The popular celebrity couple married in the 1960s, but divorced in 1975. She received the prize for lead woman's role at the inaugural Greek Cinema Festival in Thessaloniki in 1960 for her starring role in the movie "Mantalena". Her first film was Nikos Tsiforos' "The little Mouse", followed by scores of other popular dramatic and comic films.
Her father died during World War 2, defending his country against the German invasion, and she has two brothers, film director Takis Vougiouklakis, and architect Antonis Vougiouklakis.
Her first theatre performance as a star, was a George Bernard Shaw play, called Anthony and Cleopatra, but it was a commercial disaster, although a critical victory for the star.
She left Filopoimin Finos for Karagiannis-Karatzopoulos films in the late 60s, she produced 3 films there, all commercial successes (but critical failures). When she returned to Finos Films, the producers increased her salary.
Her salary for each film was 1.000.000 drachmas and share of future profits of her films, when the basic salary in Greece per month was 2.000 to 5.000 drachmas.
She starred in Lysistrata and Antigone in the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, both productions were massive commercial successes, but created great controversies.

Her last movie Kataskopos Nelli (1981) was a strange mixture of two of her biggest theatrical hits Cabaret and Evita. Shooting originally begun in 1979 and was to be called The Girl At The Cabaret but due to copyright problems (she was not granted permission to use the original songs of the musical) the movie was shelved. Shooting was resumed in 1980 with a different storyline and new songs and the movie was released in 1981.
Her 1980 movie Poniro thilyko... katergara gynaika! (1980) (A cunning woman) that was to mark her comeback at the silver screen after a seven year absence was based on the W. Somerset Maugham play Theatre, a theatrical hit for her in 1973.
She went through an audition in London in order to get the rights to play the title part in the Rice-Webber musical Evita even though she was the number one box office star in Greece and had acting experience of twenty-five years.
Her 1963 movie, Htypokardia sto thranio (1963), ("Heartbeating in High School") was shot simultaneously in Greek and Turkish, with two different casts, one Greek, one Turkish. The Turkish version was called Siralardaki heyecanlar (1963).

Black Box pays homage to the emotional power of video and film as a moving portrait, and yet at the same time considers the ultimate impotency and incompleteness of such visual surrogates to capture the essence of human life.
In 1990 my father and I travelled to the island of Culebra to document the aftereffects of Hurricane Hugo. During this trip he made plans for a future trip to Venezuela. This decisive moment ultimately led to the plane crash that ended his life.
The video consists of 2 minutes of the only footage I have of my father and a 3-minute audio reenactment read from the transcript of the flight recorder /black box that survived the crash. I shot the video of my father when we were in Culebra. Edited in a continuous loop, the changing relationships between visuals and audio that occur with each repetition reflect on the shifting nature of perceived reality, the paradoxical links between chance and fate, and the perpetual cycle of life and death.

In the Cumbrian village of Dufton, a traditional handcraft business - one of the few remaining businesses of its kind in the country - continues to thrive. Here, in a workshop that dates back to 1632, the Rudd family have been producing traditional wooden hay rakes for four generations. Founded by joiner John Rudd in 1890, the business is now run by John's grandson, John Henry Rudd, and his son, Graeme Rudd.
The setting of the business, an old workshop filled with tools and machines dating back to the 1940's and a fire roaring in an open hearth, evokes a feeling of nostalgia befitting of the craft practised here. Rather incongruously, a pair of old Doc Martin boots sporting a peace sign are to be found among the tools on one of the shelves. A relic from Graeme’s days as a ‘scooter boy’, explains his father.
Little appears to have changed since the time John Henry Rudd, now in his seventies, started making rakes here with his father as a young boy. The design of the rake - a six foot long shaft made from ash, with a head and sixteen teeth inserted into it - has not altered at all in his lifetime. “It’s been tried and tested for well over a hundred years, so it can’t be far wrong”, John explains. I don’t think someone’s going to invent something better than a wooden hay rake, really", agrees Graeme. “I think it would’ve been done by now”.
The biggest advancement came in 1949 when the business was mechanised by John’s father, John Joseph Rudd. Purpose-built machines were introduced, each aptly named to describe the task it performs. These include the “demon dentist precision driller” – for putting teeth in rather than removing them - and the “pencil pointer” for shaping the ends of the teeth into a pencil point shape. Remarkably, the machines survived a fire in 1982 that destroyed the workshop round the back from the old workshop in which they were housed, and to this day still proudly produce the rake components for which they were designed.
Although no longer used for their original purpose, the Rudds continue to produce close to a thousand rakes a month, mostly destined for golf courses, parks and gardens. Their light-weight design makes them ideal for raking golf bunkers and leaves. More unusually, one of their rakes even featured in the 1990 film 'Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, intended to be “in keeping with the time of Robin Hood”.
Sidelines to the rake making business have included undertaking. The Rudds originally produced wooden coffins, which were stored in the room above the old workshop, later getting them in pre-made. Although this line of work came to an end about ten years ago, the pair still do the odd spot of grave digging for Dufton Church. “You couldn’t make a living from it!” jokes Graeme. “There’s not many [people] dying these days”.
The Rudds appear to be quietly proud of the work they do, “carrying on a tradition where traditions are dying out”. There are not many traditional country craft businesses left nowadays. There is certainly no-one else in the country producing the number of wooden hay rakes John and Graeme produce each month.
As far as the future of the craft is concerned, "you just keep hoping that people are going to keep wanting rakes", says Graeme, although Graeme may be the last generation of the Rudd family to keep the business alive. His young son, Matthew, aged seven, has yet to show any interest in rake making and Graeme is keen for him to make up his own mind about what he wants to do in the future.
Three o’ clock is tea-time and the pair take a well-earned break, each pulling up a chair each by the fire. During break times Graeme often reads the paper and the pair - both avid Liverpool supporters – like to discuss football. “A nice fire like that, after you’ve done an afternoon’s work, you can soon drop to sleep”, muses John. The pace of life here seems to be gentle, to say the least. With just the two of them working together, they often see no-one else during the course of a working day. Occasionally farmers will pop by for saw dust. “It’s just the two of us mainly", explains Graeme.
