Desmond Tester (17 February 1919 – 31 December 2002) was an English film and television actor, host and executive. He was born in London, England. Among his most notable roles, was that of the ill-fated boy Stevie in the Alfred Hitchcock film Sabotage (1936).
Tester made his first stage appearance at the age of 12, in The Merry Wives of Windsor, receiving positive reviews from London critics. He was known more as a child actor in film in his native Britain. Tester's characters often met with doomed fates, in such early films as Carol Reed's Midshipman Easy (1935), Tudor Rose (1936), Robert Stevenson's Non-Stop New York (1937), The Stars Look Down (1939) and Sabotage. He also appeared in The Drum (1938).
After World War II, he moved to Australia and embarked in careers in radio, theatre and television. As television broadcasting began in Australia, Tester soon found work with Channel Nine's What's My Line and in a variety of children's programmes including Kaper Kops with Reg Gorman and Rod Hull. He spent fifteen years at Channel Nine, taking charge of children's programming, and became more involved behind the scenes in production and publicity. He later moved to Reg Grundy Productions, eventually leaving the industry entirely due to a dislike of the overall management culture.
Desmond Miles is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Assassin's Creed series of video games. He is a descendant of a long line of other Assassins, including Aquilus, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Edward Kenway, and Ratonhnhaké:ton. Miles is voiced by Nolan North and is modeled after Canadian fashion model Francisco Randez.
Desmond goes to New York and becomes a bartender. He lives under assumed names to protect himself. He uses only cash to hide his true identity, but is eventually tracked down by Abstergo and captured. Once inside Abstergo's facility, Desmond is forced to enter the Animus, a machine that allows him to relive the memories of his ancestors stored in his DNA under the watch of Abstergo scientists Dr. Warren Vidic and Dr. Lucy Stillman. The scientists explain they are searching the memories of Desmond's ancestors, specifically those of Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad, for specific information, which they refuse to disclose. Without much choice, Desmond agrees to help them.
Desmond may refer to:
Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock, KBE (13 August 1899 – 29 April 1980) was an English film director and producer, often nicknamed "The Master of Suspense". He pioneered many elements of the suspense and psychological thriller genres. He had a successful career in British cinema with both silent films and early talkies and became renowned as England's best director. Hitchcock moved to Hollywood in 1939 and became a US citizen in 1955.
Over a career spanning half a century, Hitchcock fashioned for himself a recognisable directorial style. His stylistic trademarks include the use of camera movement that mimics a person's gaze, forcing viewers to engage in a form of voyeurism. In addition, he framed shots to maximise anxiety, fear, or empathy, and used innovative forms of film editing. His work often features fugitives on the run alongside "icy blonde" female characters. Many of Hitchcock's films have twist endings and thrilling plots featuring depictions of murder and other violence. Many of the mysteries, however, are used as decoys or "MacGuffins" that serve the films' themes and the psychological examinations of their characters. Hitchcock's films also borrow many themes from psychoanalysis and sometimes feature strong sexual overtones. He became a highly visible public figure through interviews, movie trailers, cameo appearances in his own films, and the ten years in which he hosted the television program Alfred Hitchcock Presents. In 1978, film critic John Russell Taylor described Hitchcock as "the most universally recognizable person in the world", and "a straightforward middle-class Englishman who just happened to be an artistic genius."
South Africa, officially the Republic of South Africa, is the southernmost sovereign state in Africa. It is bounded on the south by 2,798 kilometers of coastline of southern Africa stretching along the South Atlantic and Indian Oceans, on the north by the neighbouring countries of Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, and on the east by Mozambique and Swaziland, and surrounding the kingdom of Lesotho. South Africa is the 25th-largest country in the world by land area, and with close to 53 million people, is the world's 24th-most populous nation. It is the southernmost country on the mainland of the Old World or the Eastern Hemisphere.
South Africa is a multiethnic society encompassing a wide variety of cultures, languages, and religions. Its pluralistic makeup is reflected in the constitution's recognition of 11 official languages, which is among the highest number of any country in the world. Two of these languages are of European origin: Afrikaans developed from Dutch and serves as the first language of most white and coloured South Africans; English reflects the legacy of British colonialism, and is commonly used in public and commercial life, though it is fourth-ranked as a spoken first language.

More than forty million people suffer from HIV/Aids and, according to the World Health Organisation, most of them are here. Sub Saharan Africa bears the greatest burden, around seventy per cent of the disease worldwide. Here in South Africa the greatest urgency has been for the development of a fast, accurate and inexpensive diagnostic device. Early assessment and treatment can have a big impact on the HIV treatment and prevention programs. South Africa has two million people on anti retroviral treatment. The problem until now has been a simple test which is sensitive enough to be absolutely accurate. Atomo Diagnostics, the company which developed this particular device, says trials show it is completely reliable. It's quick and easy to use and according to the company it's simplici...
