The Seagull
The Seagull (Russian: Чайка, Chayka) is a play by Russian dramatist Anton Chekhov, written in 1895 and first produced in 1896. The Seagull is generally considered to be the first of his four major plays. It dramatises the romantic and artistic conflicts between four characters: the famous middlebrow story writer Boris Trigorin, the ingenue Nina, the fading actress Irina Arkadina, and her son the symbolist playwright Konstantin Tréplev.
Though the character of Trigorin is considered Chekhov's greatest male role like Chekhov's other full-length plays, The Seagull relies upon an ensemble cast of diverse, fully developed characters. In contrast to the melodrama of mainstream 19th-century theatre, lurid actions (such as Konstantin's suicide attempts) are not shown onstage. Characters tend to speak in ways that skirt around issues rather than addressing them directly; in other words, their lines are full of what is known in dramatic practice as subtext, or text that is not spoken aloud.

The Seagull (opera)
The Seagull is an opera in 3 acts by Thomas Pasatieri to an English libretto by Kenward Elmslie. The plot is based on Anton Chekhov's 1896 play, The Seagull.
Performance History
The work had its world premiere at Houston Grand Opera on 5 March 1974 conducted by Charles Rosekrans. Notable later productions include Seattle Opera (1976), Washington National Opera (1978), Atlanta Civic Opera (1980), Fort Worth Opera (1982) and the Manhattan School of Music (2002). On 23 April 2004, a revised version premiered on at the San Francisco Opera Center, a resident artist program of San Francisco Opera. In September 2010 The Seagull was performed at Dicapo Opera in New York City as part of the international Armel Opera Competition and Festival. A European premiere will follow in November from the National Theatre of Szeged in Hungary; this production will be televised live to more than 40 countries and streamed live across the web.

The first (and only) complete commercial recording of the opera is based on the live performance of the work's New York City premiere at the Manhattan School of Music.

The Seagull (poem)
"The Seagull" (Welsh: Yr Wylan) is a love poem in 30 lines by the 14th-century Welsh poet Dafydd ap Gwilym, probably written in or around the 1340s. Dafydd is widely seen as the greatest of the Welsh poets, and this is one of his best-known and best-loved works.
Summary
The poet addresses and praises a seagull flying over the waves, comparing it to, among other things, a gauntlet, a ship at anchor, a sea-lily, and a nun. He asks it to find a girl whom he compares to Eigr and who can be found on the ramparts of a castle, to intercede with her, and to tell her that the poet cannot live without her. He loves her for her beauty more than Myrddin or Taliesin ever loved, and unless he wins kind words from her he will die.

We recently sat down with Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), alongside fellow cast mates Indira Varma, Tom Rhys Harries and Daniel Monks, during rehearsals to discuss the upcoming West End revival of The Seagull.
Under the direction of Jamie Lloyd, Clarke takes on the role of Nina, with Harries as Trigorin, Monks as Konstantin and Varma as Arkadina.
The company is completed by Sophie Wu (as Masha), Jason Barnett (as Shamrayev), Robert Glenister (as Sorin), Mika Onyx Johnson (as Medvedenko), Gerald Kyd (as Dorn) and Sara Powell (as Polina), with understudies Katie Buchholz, Tina Harris, Joseph Langdon and David Lee-Jones.
Anya Reiss' adaptation of Chekhov's play, which follows a group of despondent individuals confined to a house, has set and costume by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Jackie Shemesh, sound and composition by George Dennis, casting direction by Stuart Burt, costume supervision by Anna Josephs, props supervision by Fahmida Bakht, associate direction by Jonathan Glew and associate design by Rachel Wingate.
The play runs at London's Harold Pinter Theatre from 29 June to 10 September 2022.

The Seagull
The Seagull (Russian: Чайка, Chayka) is a play by Russian dramatist Anton Chekhov, written in 1895 and first produced in 1896. The Seagull is generally considered to be the first of his four major plays. It dramatises the romantic and artistic conflicts between four characters: the famous middlebrow story writer Boris Trigorin, the ingenue Nina, the fading actress Irina Arkadina, and her son the symbolist playwright Konstantin Tréplev.
Though the character of Trigorin is considered Chekhov's greatest male role like Chekhov's other full-length plays, The Seagull relies upon an ensemble cast of diverse, fully developed characters. In contrast to the melodrama of mainstream 19th-century theatre, lurid actions (such as Konstantin's suicide attempts) are not shown onstage. Characters tend to speak in ways that skirt around issues rather than addressing them directly; in other words, their lines are full of what is known in dramatic practice as subtext, or text that is not spoken aloud.

Some poems are funny, some desperately sad. There are story poems and pondering poems: how great would Satnav trousers be!? Some, like 'Cosmo Caff', beg to be read aloud.
Sometimes the juxtaposition of poems will floor you: read 'Where Do We Come From' and 'Fly Racing' and find the history of a family.
But in Rosen's hands, small, scruffy words you don't even notice gain extra weight and meaning, and his poems give form and sensitively and exuberantly validate the everyday acts of simply wondering, idly thinking, and using language to do so.

Ever since then, I’ve been doing these things:

Exploring the sky's vast, infinite floor.
A curious Seagull, with feathers bright,
Gazed at the Avata, a captivating sight.
Its lens, like an eye, scanned the world below,
Unveiling secrets that only it could show.
