The SCOREBaja 1000 is an off-road race that takes place in Mexico's Baja California Peninsula. The 2016 Bud Light SCORE Baja 1000 is the final round of a five-race series, previous events are the SCORE Desert Challenge, the Bud Light SCORE San Felipe 250 & the Bud Light SCORE Baja 500. The 2016 round will be the 49th Bud Light SCORE Baja 1000, occurring from November 16–20 over an 800-mile loop both starting and ending in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
The Baja 1000 allows various types of vehicle classes to compete on the same course - from such small and large bore motorcycles, stock Volkswagen, production vehicles, buggies, Trucks, and custom fabricated race vehicles. The course has remained relatively the same over the years, about every other being either a point-to-point race from Ensenada to La Paz, or a loop race starting and finishing in Ensenada.
The name of the event can be misleading as the mileage varies for the type of event ("Loop" of 600 to 850 miles starting and finishing in Ensenada, or "Point to Point" also known as the 900. The first official race started in Tijuana, Baja California, on October 31, 1967, and was named the NORRA Mexican 1000 Rally. The course length that year was 849 miles (1,366 km) and ended in La Paz, Baja California Sur, with the overall winning time of 27 hours 38 minutes (27:38) set by Vic Wilson and Ted Mangels while driving a Meyers Manx buggy.
Baja may refer to:
Year 1000 (M) was a leap year starting on Monday (link will display the full calendar) of the Julian calendar. It was also the last year of the 10th century as well as the last year of the 1st millennium of the Dionysian era ending on December 31st, but the first year of the 1000s decade.
The year falls well into the period of Old World history known as the Middle Ages; in Europe, it is sometimes and by convention considered the boundary date between the Early Middle Ages and the High Middle Ages. The Muslim world was in its "Golden Age". China was in its Song dynasty, Japan was in its "classical" Heian period. India was divided into a number of lesser empires, such as the Rashtrakuta Dynasty, Pala Empire (Kamboja Pala dynasty; Mahipala), Chola dynasty (Raja Raja Chola I), Yadava dynasty, etc. Sub-Saharan Africa was still in the prehistoric period, although Arab slave trade was beginning to be an important factor in the formation of the Sahelian kingdoms. The pre-Columbian New World was in a time of general transition in many regions. Wari and Tiwanaku cultures receded in power and influence while Chachapoya and Chimú cultures rose toward florescence in South America. In Mesoamerica, the Maya Terminal Classic period saw the decline of many grand polities of the Petén like Palenque and Tikal yet a renewed vigor and greater construction phases of sites in the Yucatán region like Chichén Itzá and Uxmal. Mitla, with Mixtec influence, became the more important site of the Zapotec, overshadowing the waning Monte Albán. Cholula flourished in central Mexico, as did Tula, the center of Toltec culture.
Roger Norman is a professional offroad racing competitor. He has raced in numerous off-road circuits, including SCORE International/Tecate Baja series and Best In The Desert (BITD). Recently, Roger purchased the SCORE International series from Sal Fish.
Most recently, he and Larry Roeseler just took home the overall winner and 1st in Class at the Terrible's SCORE Primm 300 in Primm, NV.
Roger Norman was born in Washington. Norman is the husband to Elise Norman. His mother is Fran Muncey and his late stepfather is Bill Muncey. This stepfather is a hall of fame unlimited hydroplane racer who won 62 races and 8 gold cups. Roger's father Don R. Norman had a passion for off-roading and brought Roger into the sport. Don Norman is 78 years of age and has a 17 month old baby.
Roger began building his construction and real estate business at a young age and moved to Reno, NV.
In 1996, Roger entered the Vegas to Reno race with motorcycle icon Chris Haines in a Class 1 car. Their wives were the only pit crew they had. He soon found himself part of Rod Hall’s factory-backed Hummer team in 1998, and by 1999, he and Hall had won the BITD championship.
Norman Motorsports is the professional Trophy Truck #8 offroad racing team based in San Diego, California. It is owned and operated by Roger Norman. The team races in numerous off-road circuits, including SCORE/Tecate Baja series and Best In The Desert.
In the first year of racing the SCORE points series, the team has already taken home the overall win at the Terribles Primm 300 which is quite a noteworthy feat for a brand new team. Norman Motorsports is currently in 6th place overall going into the Baja 1000 and has proven to be a contender to win it. They would currently be ranked 2nd if the race truck had finished Laughlin.
A new video game (Baja: Edge of Control) was released at the end of September 2008 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 featuring the #8 Norman Motorsports trophy truck in team livery. The game was created by 2XL Games of Phoenix, Arizona.
Norman Motorsports is moving into a new 16,400-square-foot (1,520 m2) facility located at 9434 Bond Avenue in El Cajon, California. The new facility will be ready in January 2009 and is located next door to Fortin Transmissions and near Ivan Stewart's Pro Truck, Paul Mishell's Racer Services and McMillin Racing's facility. Currently Norman Motorsports is leasing 7,000 square feet (650 m2) at Wide Open in Irvine, California. El Cajon and Lakeside have the largest concentration of off-road businesses, teams, and enthusiasts in the country. It is also where the off-road business first took root in the United States.

When you're living on your own
And things around you start to go
You're on your own, well baby you're on your own
When I see it in your smile
I can tell it ain't your style
You're on your own, well baby you're on your own
You're alone if you don't know it
And pretty soon it takes it's toll
Maybe I should ask you why
You need everything
But you ain't got it, 'cause you're living on your own
One day soon this will be gone
And the love of life it could be
But 'til then you'll look at me
Then you'll feel it grow
And you'll always know
You ain't got it living on your own
And when I see you look at me
And I can tell how it will be
You're on your own well baby you're on your own
I can tell the way you smile
And just you wait and in a while
