They Might Be Giants (often abbreviated as TMBG) is an American alternative rock band formed in 1982 by John Flansburgh and John Linnell. During TMBG's early years Flansburgh and Linnell frequently performed as a duo, often accompanied by a drum machine. In the early 1990s, TMBG expanded to include a backing band. The duo's current backing band consists of Marty Beller, Dan Miller, and Danny Weinkauf. The group is best known for an unconventional and experimental style of alternative music. Over their career, they have found success on the modern rock and CMJ charts. More recently they have also found success in children's music, and in theme music for several television programs and films.
TMBG have released 18 studio albums. Flood has been certified platinum and their children's music albums Here Come the ABCs, Here Come the 123s, and Here Comes Science have all been certified gold. The band has won two Grammy Awards, one in 2002 for their song "Boss of Me", which served as the theme to Malcolm in the Middle. They won their second in 2009 for Here Come the 123s. The band has sold over 4 million records.

The musical equivalent of the TEDxAtlanta theme “Bold Moves,” Moon Hooch kicked off the conference. The raw, kinetic sounds of saxophones and drums electrified the auditorium and set the energy at maximum volume. Moon Hooch is recreating the sounds and energy of dance club music with two horns and a drum set. Moon Hooch captured the imaginations of thousands with its infamous stints busking on subway platforms and elsewhere in New York City: two sax players and a drummer whipping up furious, impromptu raves. It happened with such regularity at the Bedford Ave station in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, that the band was banned from playing there by the NYPD. The trio’s subsequent tours with They Might Be Giants, Lotus, and Galactic as well as on their own have only broadened the band’s appeal. ...
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In this powerful talk, Thomas Lloyd talks about taking pride in owning his identity and the strength that stems from that ownership. He talks with admiration about a movement that learnt that changing a community is much easier and much less damaging than changing one’s own identity. In his journey he has learnt to walk in solidarity with not only those he identifies with but also other marginalized groups in society. Thomas Lloyd is a Senior in the SFS majoring in STIA: Science, Technology & International Affairs. For the last two years he has served as the President of GUPride, Georgetown’s LGBTQ Student group, one of the only such groups at a Catholic school in the country. As the group’s preside...

By turn hilarious and haunting, poet Shane Koyczan puts his finger on the pulse of what it's like to be young and ... different. "To This Day," his spoken-word poem about bullying, captivated millions as a viral video (created, crowd-source style, by 80 animators). Here, he gives a glorious, live reprise with backstory and violin accompaniment by Hannah Epperson. None of this would be possible without the participation of the following people and organizations: Animators: Ryan Kothe, Mike Healey, Will Fortanbary, Brian San, Diego De la Rocha, Gizelle Manalo, Adam Plouff, Mike Wolfram, Hyun Min Bae, Oliver Sin, Seth Eckert, Viraj Ajmeri, Vishnu Ganti, Yun Wang, Boris Wilmot, Cameron Spencer, DeAndria Mackey, Matt Choi, Reimo Õun, Samantha Bjalek, Eli Treviño, Ariel Costa, Caleb Coppock, ...

Onstage at TED2015, he unveils a bold new technique — inspired, yes, by Terminator 2 — that's 25 to 100 times faster, and creates smooth, strong parts. Posted for the 20th Anniversary of TMBG's legendary performance of "Birdhouse In Your Soul" with Doc Severinsen and his band. (Full version of this clip with interview and stereo sound)
Streamed live from Music Feeds Studio, They Might Be Giants performed two ditties for us while in Sydney as they gallivant across Australia on their run of headlining shows. Brought down for the Groovin The Moo festival, but sticking around for a run of their own performances, TMBG will be performing to their Aussie fans for the first time in 12 years, the perfect time to stop them for a chat, which they happily went along with. After they performed Cloisonné, the trio belted out their hit single Birdhouse In Your Soul. The track found its way onto their seminal 1990 release Flood, which is getting the special treatment on their forthcoming Australian tour, as several of their shows will focus squarely on the record, seeing it performed from start to finish. Hang tight because following ...

This was recorded at our March '02 Open House Fete. This was our only live attempt to play TMBG's pile of songs, Fingertips. Everything was going fairly well until I kicked out the power cord on the keyboard near the end (sorry). Hektor hurriedly plugged it back in, turned it on and continued the song. But in the rush, he forgot to change the instrument to the organ, instead of the default instrument - trumpet. Does anyone know why the default on a keyboard is a trumpet? Oh well, it's funnier with that at the end.

Here is They Might Be Giants 1985 Demo Tape! The tape, which seems to be officially self-titled, was originally distributed by the Johns at TMBG concerts in 1985-86. The material was recorded onto standard store-bought audio cassettes, with black-and-white photocopied inserts. Although it was only a demo tape, the cassette was reviewed by Michael Small in People magazine, giving the band the attention they would need to score a record deal with Bar/None. Nanobots, album 16 for TMBG, finds the two John's going for some darker lyrical content and allowing themselves a Peter Pan / Oedipus concept (that's not really true). We discuss both, their cliched rock star life, those learning songs they're so famous for, and the idea of hidden politics within their music.
